To think I can't be the only one who likes Jo Swinson

She gets slated on twitter and irl I don't know anyone who likes her especially. But I think she's great (not perfect) and admire what she's doing and feel like she's someone I'd be friends with.

OP posts:
ClaraThePigeon · 18/11/2019 19:40

YABU. She's my MP and I can't bear her. Her voting record is appalling and she doesn't give a shit about women, or the poor, or students.

PurpleCrowbar · 18/11/2019 21:44

She doesn't want my vote, as a woman who votes for women's rights.

So she doesn't have my vote.

She's also lost my mum's on the same issue. Mum is hardcore Labour but lives in a fairly safe Liberal seat with a decent MP who she gets on rather well with, & generally holds her nose & votes for to keep the Conservatives out.

Her yoga group are ALL apparently spoiling ballot/voting Tory this time - they're absolutely up in arms. M&S welcoming blokes into the ladies' changing room? They're really not having it.

StreetwiseHercules · 18/11/2019 21:57

Living in Scotland I’ve been aware of Jo Swinson for over a decade. She is of the same ilk as Ruth Davidson and Kezia Dugdale in that she actually has no politics whatsoever. She doesn’t believe in anything at all, and will take any view if she thinks it is in the interests of Jo Swinson.

She has long been found out up here and is deeply unpopular, like the aforementioned duo. It’s no surprise at all that a UK wide audience getting a look at her do not like what they see either.

Swinson is a vapid, self serving and intellectually shallow person with no self awareness and a line in fake accents which would suggest that even she doesn’t know who she is.

Expect her to lose her seat next month.

JKScot4 · 18/11/2019 22:07

@PurpleCrowbar
Spoiling votes/voting Tory? I’m sorry but that is pathetic and ignorant. Do these women not care about anyone but themselves? Vote for the better of everyone not a personality, not out of spite. I’m bewildered by people that stupid.

longwayoff · 18/11/2019 22:11

I'm not keen on her, don't like her voting record. I'm going to vote LibDem though, 75% remain area, 10,000 Tory majority. MP is reasonable, for a Tory, but he'll have to go, 5 more years of Boris is more than anyone should be asked to bear.

Doobigetta · 18/11/2019 22:18

Cannot stand her and will not vote LD unless or until there’s a public climbdown on their anti women’s rights stance, and an apology to those of us who were told we aren’t welcome.

busybarbara · 18/11/2019 22:21

"and in favour of raising the threshold at which people pay income tax."

They make this sound like a bad thing when the increases in personal allowance has hugely boosted low earner incomes.

Cinammoncake · 18/11/2019 22:27

If you think of the big picture, you'd be able to get rid of her in 5 years but a no deal brexit is for life. But, I actively do like her. It seems most don't, and that's reflected here. I do think she's passionate about what she's saying and I think her intentions are good.

OP posts:
JasonPollack · 18/11/2019 22:31

She annoys me no more or less than any other libdem. Which is quite a lot.

To think I can't be the only one who likes Jo Swinson
ICouldBeVotingTactically · 18/11/2019 22:31

I'm more concerned about the future than about the past. There's no single party which has always represented my personal views on every subject in the past, so I could easily find reasons not to vote for any of them. Also, I don't care who the leaders are today - leaders come and go.

But I know what I want for the future for me and my children - and it aint Brexit. I want a future in the EU, and I will vote accordingly.

PickleChips · 18/11/2019 22:36

Her voting record reflects the fact that she was in a coalition government where some give and take was required.
This with bells on.

Merename · 18/11/2019 22:38

I agree with Streetwisehercules. I met someone recently who had worked for her, and even they didn’t vote for her - said she is ruthlessly ambitious and not a nice person to be around. I hadn’t been aware of the voting record though til I saw these links, pretty damning. I think it’s BS to say she had to vote that way - really principled politicians don’t give up their morals like that.

cantstopreadingthenews · 18/11/2019 22:45

As previous poster said.

Don't waste your vote cos' you don't like the leader of the party. if you can do, some people never have the chance to vote in a democracy; but your vote could swing it one way or the other. Your vote is important.

No-one knows tomorrow, but at the moment we have & have had a government that has not been doing its job (or its best) for all the people of the UK.
They've had long enough to prove themselves, instead we have 'political chaos', a country going down-hill, key infra-structure crumbling because they are not interested in putting the needs of the country or it's population first. Something they keep accusing other parties off - pot - kettle.

Petty or personality politics doesn't help anyone of us in the long run. Not if it keeps the tories in (they've had their turn) - what have they achieved). Even those rich enough will get burnt eventually, as for those more disadvantaged - you can see and read yourselves.

Like another poster, I don' t like (know) any of potential leaders, but them be the choices now - but not forever! I think we need a hung parliament, to move away from all this extremism. But, what do I know, it's not even that simple anymore.

A lot of the 'moderate' and more experienced MPs have stood down. We need good, diplomatic, experienced & honest women & men to help govern this country, especially now we've upset the apple cart. It's going to take years to mend the damage, get better representation and build up trust in parliament & the government at all.
SadSad

notangelinajolie · 18/11/2019 22:49

I cannot like a women who is happy to put men before women.

BernardoTeashop · 18/11/2019 22:53

She is my MP and she doesn’t live in or care about her constituency so that’s why I wont be voting for her. That and I want Scottish Independence

Twooter · 18/11/2019 22:55

Please don’t vote SNPas a remain alternative unless you really want independence. I’m terrified of SNP doing well.

dontalltalkatonce · 18/11/2019 22:57

Oh, believe me, I'm not voting SNP as a remain alternative. Lib Dems are a fucking disgrace.

Cinammoncake · 18/11/2019 22:59

she is ruthlessly ambitious

She'd have to be to be leader of the LibDems by age 39. I think it's a good achievement. Plus, this would never be applied to men as a negative.

OP posts:
Violetparis · 18/11/2019 23:02

Why do you like her OP ? Is it just her Remain views ? I can't see anything likeable about her at all, to me she comes across as haughty, arrogant and completely deluded.

Hatherden123 · 18/11/2019 23:02

She just doesn't have any gravitas about her, she might be ok in 10 years time but at the moment she comes across as a lecturing 6th former every time she speaks - and of course the problems with liberals is a general lack of fiery determinism as they are way too busy trying to please everyone and not actually have a defined opinion - very wooley forgettable girl is JS

Pawsitive · 18/11/2019 23:06

I liked her when I met her but ive since seen her voting record and could not vote for her party as a result.

Snowjive2 · 18/11/2019 23:11

For those influenced by the links upthread, you need to read thus before you reach a conclusion:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/blogs-trending-50160148

littledrummergirl · 18/11/2019 23:13

She always puts me in mind of the film mean girls and every time she speaks I want to slap her. I don't condone violence but she gets under my skin. Hearing her her talk about how unfair it was that she hasn't been invited to the debate between the two main parties, seeing her surrounded by her clique who were hanging on her every word whilst she complained how unfair it was as she is going to be the next prime minister made me snort with derision.
That's without her politics/voting record etc.

Cinammoncake · 18/11/2019 23:17

Why do you like her OP ?
She doesn't come across as fake or vain. I think she's a good role model for girls. I think she has integrity and believes in what she's saying. I admire her for what she's achieved by her age. I believe she's passionate about remain. She seems down to earth and like someone you could have a cup of tea with. I think she's fairly decent.

OP posts:
Cinammoncake · 18/11/2019 23:17

She should have been invited to the TV debate though imo
