to suggest that Mumsnet is quite sexist against men?

I don't know if it's just the threads I've been on. I don't know how many men use Mumsnet.

Sexism either way makes me equally uncomfortable. How do other Mumsnet users feel about this?

Hmm Just replying to a different poster about a thread where there's lots of different views from women, ranging from defending the man (me included), lambasting the man, through to ridiculous nonsense where women should pander to poor men and bring him his cup of tea on a morning.

It's almost like women can, and do, give a range of advice depending on the situation.

Panic
Totally poor little lambs.
Heaven forbid there's thread after thread of many women all holding different views and debating and disagreeing and giving a range of advice.
MN is a hive mind where everyone has to agree don't you know.Wink

Eckhart · 20/11/2019 21:23

@PanicAndRun You're just being openly and blatantly goady and mean. Have you anything intelligent to add to the debate or are you joining @LolaSmiles now, and purely posting things to put me/my posting style down?

OP posts:
PanicAndRun · 20/11/2019 21:25

Oh the irony.

LolaSmiles · 20/11/2019 21:28

now, and purely posting things to put me/my posting style down?
I replied to a different poster about a different example.
Confused

Panic
Quite.
Replying to you and another poster has now led to claims I'm putting the OP down.
But they're not being goady at all...

busybarbara · 20/11/2019 21:29

Sexism against men doesn’t exist. Sexism is about the power systems and institutions that keep women in a lesser place and all of those things favour men in our society.

Eckhart · 20/11/2019 21:33

@PanicAndRun @LolaSmiles Have you anything intelligent to add to the debate? It's a y or n question. If you do, then add it.

OP posts:
Eckhart · 20/11/2019 21:35

busybarbara So what is it if a woman says she hates a man and when you ask her why, she says 'Because he's a MAN.' There must be a name for that?

OP posts:
Eckhart · 20/11/2019 21:35

@LolaSmiles cue 'OP is being disingenuous again'

OP posts:
MIdgebabe · 20/11/2019 21:42

Misandary?

LolaSmiles · 20/11/2019 21:47

Quite OP

There's lots of room for interesting debate, but only if that's with someone genuinely interested in issues and who approaches it in a non goady way. Posters who can separate challenges to posts from false claims of character assassination and playing the victim to suit.

Personally, I found it really interesting to agree with some posters up thread who I often differ in opinions with (and who on this thread I've differed with on some things and not others).

The more the thread goes on, the more textbook sealion it becomes. It's essentially pigeon chess.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 20/11/2019 21:52

So that excludes Lola, Sagrada,Panic et Al then

Eckhart · 20/11/2019 21:53

@LolaSmiles No further points to make on the topic at hand then.

In that case, I will say what a sealion would never say: The end.

OP posts:
hopelesssuitcase · 20/11/2019 21:59

Lordy lola your inbox must be buzzing with all these "@"s
Now I know the OP has been asked by other posters not to do this so I wonder why she persists?
Really need to find the hide button.

PanicAndRun · 20/11/2019 22:00

@Lola we had a healthy debate recently about family admin .Grin

The hive mind failed on that one.

LolaSmiles · 20/11/2019 22:03

We did indeed panic. Grin
It's amazing really. Who'd have thought women could have a range of interesting and differing views, agree on some issues and not on others?

AutumnCrow · 20/11/2019 22:09

I went over to Style and Beauty a couple of times, Lola. Very helpful.

LolaSmiles · 20/11/2019 22:16

autumn I venture there occasionally and then remember I'm not stylish at all and would lose all the style points for my skinny jeans, stripey tops, and so on. The list is lengthy. Grin

Is it a twitter thing the tagging?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 20/11/2019 22:24

Is it a twitter thing the tagging?

I think it's because MN have introduced the feature as an icon on the page, so to highlight a name if you click on the @ sign on the page it lists all of the posters on that thread. It's only really on FWR that people ask not to be tagged. On other threads everyone does it.

AutumnCrow · 20/11/2019 22:24

The tagging seems to be based on Twitter, and automatically highlights a poster's name in bold. You have to go into 'customise' to tell MN to stop sending notifications to you e.g. to your email.

BIWI · 20/11/2019 22:27

It must be exhausting putting in all the hours to defend the menz. One can only hope that they will extend the courtesy to us mere wimmin?

hopelesssuitcase · 20/11/2019 22:36

Nah hearhooves it annoys me everywhere I go.
It has a place when you want to be sure a poster reads something and they maybe haven't posted for a while - but on an active thread with regular updates it feels a bit like someone jabbing their finger in your face. Totally unnecessary.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 20/11/2019 22:40

I kind of agree but it wasn't until someone explained to me how to highlight a posters name without using the @ function that I realised there was another way.

I suppose the only "official" way to do it is by using @ unless people explain how to do it differently.

Sagradafamiliar · 20/11/2019 22:42

That excludes Sagrada then

Nah, I'm genuinely interested in these issues, pal. Why else would I bother engaging in them.

Sagradafamiliar · 20/11/2019 22:44

Someone had to explain to you how to type out a name, Hear? 🤣
