to suggest that Mumsnet is quite sexist against men?

I don't know if it's just the threads I've been on. I don't know how many men use Mumsnet.

Sexism either way makes me equally uncomfortable. How do other Mumsnet users feel about this?

I think the automatic reaction nowadays on everything is 'but why wasn't it a woman?'

That's not actually an unreasonable thought since women make up half the population.

I think there is a tendency to view women as some sort of minority when we're not. We shouldn't be classed as some sort of special interest group, but yet we have to be viewed that way because society is set up in such a way that the default is male.

JacquesHammer · 19/11/2019 07:28

Are you a man?

Have you actually read the thread.....? No, I’m not a man.

What a bizarre question.

JacquesHammer · 19/11/2019 07:29

Many boys, particularly from working class families, do find it very difficult especially as white working class boys are the most under performing group within education

Why is of course why I suggested the PP might want to campaign for something for the boys, rather than complaining girls get something...?

At weekends it should be mum who has the lie in while dad looks after the children and then catches up.on the housework while mum gets time off and goes out with friends. It's literally bonkers. When does dad get a break?.

I have been on mumsnet for over ten years and I have never seen a thread where this has been suggested. I have however seen suggestions that both parents should get a break from time to time.

I've been a sahm and I did all the cooking, all the housework, all the night waking, from Monday to Friday, and I was happy to do that. But at the weekend, it was shared between us. We both got a lie in, and we both did the drudgery. Because we both had been working hard all week in our separate ways.

@JacquesHammer

Not really because there are men on here pretending be women

JoObrien7 · 19/11/2019 07:33

@JacquesHammer

Also your user name implies you are male.

JacquesHammer · 19/11/2019 07:33

So it’s still a bizarre question. If I was a man pretending to be a woman would I acknowledge it Grin

Feel free to do an A/S on my posting history. Ive been consistently a woman for years Wink

JacquesHammer · 19/11/2019 07:35

Also your user name implies you are male

(A) it’s a scene from Family Guy
(B) you mean like “Jo”?
(C) you don’t need to tag me - I’m on the thread and I still get notifications despite turning them off. Would rather you didn’t thanks.

Pandaintheporridge · 19/11/2019 07:39

My username implies I'm a panda.
(I'm not)

JoObrien7 · 19/11/2019 07:41

@JacquesHammer

Jo is short for Joanna Smile

JacquesHammer · 19/11/2019 07:42

Jo is short for Joanna

But can also be shortened form of male names. Hence my comment - your name could imply you’re male.

Did you miss the bit where I asked you not to tag me please?

SoupDragon · 19/11/2019 07:43

It also could be Male though. Jacques could be short for Jaqueline (it's not) but you jumped to the conclusion that she must be a man. Why was that?

JoObrien7 · 19/11/2019 07:43

Ok Jacquie

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 19/11/2019 07:44

I have been on mumsnet for over ten years and I have never seen a thread where this has been suggested. I have however seen suggestions that both parents should get a break from time to time.

Then look out for it. It's definitely there.

JoObrien7 · 19/11/2019 07:44

@SoupDragon

Sometimes it is hard to tell who is male or female online and I just felt she sounded male .... my mistake.

JacquesHammer · 19/11/2019 07:46

You’ve read the thread, right? Like I said, feel free to check back through my posting history. Very obviously female.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 19/11/2019 07:46

JacquesHammer

I get accused of being a man frequently on here. I post exactly the same protestations that you are but get given short shrift.

JacquesHammer · 19/11/2019 07:47

I just thought it was deliciously ironic given the suggestions of “your username is male”, given that posters username! Nothing like making yourself look a ninny online Grin

JoObrien7 · 19/11/2019 07:49

Ninny? I am beginning to think you are male again lol

LolaSmiles · 19/11/2019 07:49

Very obviously female.
Yes, for a start your posting history shows you routinely centre women and female experiences.

Pandaintheporridge
You mean you're not a panda! Shock

JoObrien7 · 19/11/2019 07:50

My old Grandad used to call people a ninny ...

JacquesHammer · 19/11/2019 07:51

Yup. But my naaaaaaame! Wink

JacquesHammer · 19/11/2019 07:52

Ninny has long been a favourite of mine since I saw it put to excellent use in a wonderful stage show.

JoObrien7 · 19/11/2019 07:52

I didn't realize ninnies meant small breasts!

Anyway back to the thread ... I am off to work now

Sagradafamiliar · 19/11/2019 07:52

Jacques is not a man. Maybe think about the sexism you're displaying when you're trying to imply she's a bloke as a dig.

The people here pretending they are women are far more obvious.
