... and be quite annoyed that HIGFY is not on in its usual slot?

OP posts:
Herbalteahippie · 15/11/2019 21:22

Why won’t anyone say what bloody HIGNFY is?!!!!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 15/11/2019 21:23

@Bluerussian god sake I just switched over as they finished Grin

Herbalteahippie · 15/11/2019 21:23

Ps. OP YANBU is a pile of pants

EustaciaPieface · 15/11/2019 21:23

I turned on to watch HIGNFY too and gutted to find CIN. I hate it.

Herbalteahippie · 15/11/2019 21:24

@flouncyfanny thank you x

DrPimplePopper · 15/11/2019 21:27

For the people saying about 'bad' charities, which are these? I'd be interested to know more.

I'm not watching, it's a load of shite celebs begging when they could easily just shut up and put up the money. I'm also fed up of CIN after endless texts and letters from DC's school about wearing spotty stuff for the past bloody fortnight, plus being made to feel guilty that I'm not buying a t shirt or whatever. I am not buying the stupid clothes when they'll have grown out of by next year, seems so wasteful.

southeastdweller · 15/11/2019 21:27

I can't stand it because of the distasteful celeb promo aspect. Every year there's celebs featured who've got current products to promote - this year it's Alife Boe and Michael Ball, Westlife, Louis Tomlinson, and I wonder if tickets for Big, The Tina Turner Musical and Circus 1903 are low, hence the cast's appearances tonight on CIN tonight.

Anyone know how much the presenters earn from this?

Howlovely · 15/11/2019 21:29

PS, Did Terry Wogan really charge 30k to present it??? I would have thought they would waive fees for it.

@Tillymintsmama - yes, apparently he was the only 'celebrity' paid for doing CIN but see, he never asked for it, they just offered and he accepted it! Absolutely shameful! He was ridiculous on it anyway, goodness knows why they kept paying him to come back! Like an inappropriate uncle at a wedding, just a walking, talking cringe.

Krisis · 15/11/2019 21:29

So I used to work for them. I’m not watching it, but no terry wogan didn’t charge. None of the celebs did.

The only negative I heard about was Cheryl Cole who refused to meet anyone one year and played her new single 🙄.

I left after only working for them for a year, not because of CIN in general but the whole charity industry. I worked in corporate partnerships and it was so aggressive and sale-sy. To have your minute moment on TV as a company you needed to raise a minimum of £1M and there was so much pressure to push your corporate partners to do that.

yolofish · 15/11/2019 21:29

I have a friend who runs a charity supporting bereaved children. (Halo Children's Foundation). They are featured this year, which they truly deserve and I hope they will get extra funding as result. I'm not watching the crap tv show, and will bung Halo itself £50 rather than letting CIN decide who is worthy and who is not.

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/11/2019 21:30

Can’t stand CIN the programme. Celebs either with something to flog and/or get paid to do it. I generally give to smaller, less well off charities in any case.

Aridane · 15/11/2019 21:30

OP - I so agree!

Friday night is HIGNFY and the incomparable Would I Lie to You! (At least put them on BBC2)

Charley50 · 15/11/2019 21:31

I'm pissed off too. I love my Friday evening of HIGNFY and WILTY .. didn't realise they weren't on until just before 9.

and sorry to say this but I hate rich celebrities trying to get people to give more and more to charity when the worlds super-rich are hoarding more and more cash. I hope every celebrity on there pays all the tax they possibly can, and then some more. I give to charities myself but not to TV ones.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 15/11/2019 21:33

I hate CIN too - I prefer to decide myself who to donate to and don't actually trust their choices given some dodgy choices in the past!

stucknoue · 15/11/2019 21:35

To those of you saying you don't know where the money goes ... ive worked for orgs that received money, you have to be a registered charity and apply through a grant process. It's strict and the reporting of outcomes is strict too. They support a wide range of projects including those which the general public don't donate directly to (donkeys charities get more often). Don't watch it if it's not your cup of tea, it's a bit corny, but the money does good stuff

Charley50 · 15/11/2019 21:36

Would I lie to you has me crying with laughter every week (apart from this week). Lee Mack is ridiculously funny.

SwedishEdith · 15/11/2019 21:36

It pisses me off every year.

Scardanelli · 15/11/2019 21:36

I don't have a TV, but if I did, I would not be being patronised by slebs who could just donate a day's salary watching Children In Need.

mynameiscalypso · 15/11/2019 21:38

I totally agree. HIGNFY is the only thing that gets me through the general shittiness of the news are the moment.

Accountant222 · 15/11/2019 21:38

I totally agree I've never watched it, Chris Evans particularly used to boil my blood in the week running up to it, like people had £50k to spare for one of his experiences

Perunatop · 15/11/2019 21:42

If children in need worked, our care system would be infinitely better. The thought that over £50M can be raised while children in care have such poor outcomes is utterly depressing.

OrangeSamphire · 15/11/2019 21:42

Don’t watch if you don’t want to.

But the programme does work - it raises awareness of different causes and the human stories behind them. I’d like to think that raises some empathy, as well as money.

By the way, CIN supports many many smaller charities that struggle to fundraise on their own. It’s an absolute god send and a life line for many small charities that simply wouldn’t survive without it.

My son and daughter both benefit from some of them, so thank you to those who have been able and willing to donate.

Melroses · 15/11/2019 21:46

Haven't watched it for years. Likewise all the other similar ones. They were sort of fun in a novelty way for a few years, but they seem never ending (and noisy) now.

I can choose my own charities.

MyGoodTimes · 15/11/2019 21:47

It's not the same without Sir Terry. Sad There was something comforting about him. He was like a Grandad figure.

MintyMabel · 15/11/2019 21:50

I’m watching it because DD wanted to watch it.

I hate it. It’s not the “entertainment” that bothers me, it’s the clips they run. Starts with the minor key, aww pity these pooooooor children, how awful their lives are, listen to their saaad story. Switch to major key, upbeat looook at these children having fun, give us your money to make them happy.

You know what? That’s my life and we don’t need your bloody pity. It isn’t sad, we aren’t unhappy. Support the groups that do stuff to help DD do fun stuff. But don’t pity us, we don’t need it.
