... and be quite annoyed that HIGFY is not on in its usual slot?

OP posts:
BustedDreams · 15/11/2019 21:04

What’s HIGNFY?

AlfieandAnnieRose · 15/11/2019 21:05

‘Furry bastard’ that proper made me lol 🤣

Violetparis · 15/11/2019 21:06

Can't stand watching the smug, cringey celebs though happy to donate to the cause.

FizzyIce · 15/11/2019 21:07

Yanbu, I don’t participate in anyway and I’m fine about that

FizzyIce · 15/11/2019 21:08

@BustedDreams Have I got news for you

Badbilly · 15/11/2019 21:11

I’d like to know where all the money goes.

It’s been going, what, 25 years and must of raised millions, BUT Pudsey’s eye still hasn’t got any better...

Honeyroar · 15/11/2019 21:11

It is Celebrities in Need. It used to feature lots of the general public, but nowadays it's just the in crowd of celebs promoting themselves. They should lead by example and put their hands in their wallets and give some donations proportional to what they make themselves. Puts me off the whole thing.

missyB1 · 15/11/2019 21:11

Gutted HIGNFY isn’t on or Would I lie to you. Friday night for me is those two programs and a couple of glasses of wine to go with them.

Will donate to CIN but zero chance I’m watching any of it.

RaininSummer · 15/11/2019 21:11

Never watch it. Truly awful TV.

BolloxtoGender · 15/11/2019 21:13

Not watching nor donating. Seems to be no accountability or transparency on the charities they support, I don’t want my donations to go to bad charities that I don’t agree with.

BolloxtoGender · 15/11/2019 21:14

Just want to add that I used to donate and bake for CIN.

I also USED to have a direct debit set up for NSPCC.

Travelfan1 · 15/11/2019 21:14

It’s a pile of utter crap, I don’t ever watch it or donate to it.

Littlecaf · 15/11/2019 21:14

I’ve never got why it’s a “thing”. Happily donate money just don’t badger me for it with celebs doing silly turns.

DS school sent an email to explain why they weren’t doing Children In Need (they’ve had the NSPCC in this week to talk about talking etc) so thought it was overload. I wanted to say to the teachers “you don’t need to explain why! It’s not compulsory!

Tellmetruth4 · 15/11/2019 21:14

The cause is worthwhile but it’s a celeb wankfest. I’m certain a lot of them only do it to raise their profile. Bob Geldoff set the template. He wouldn’t have been a tenth as rich if he only had the ‘I don’t like Mondays’ royalties to live off. Charity work can do wonders for your career and to attract investment for your other projects.

Silverstreaks · 15/11/2019 21:16

Nope. It's tedious and boring.
Give your money any one you want.

Bluerussian · 15/11/2019 21:17

I've only just put it on and was lucky because the Eastenders cast (some of them) are doing 'Strictly' in a minute.

BustedDreams · 15/11/2019 21:17

Thank you @FizzyIce

Ginfordinner · 15/11/2019 21:17

I have just watched a really interesting railway journey in Wales, and am watching a programme about The Mayflower - both on channel 5.

I live in South Yorkshire and this year I have donated a sum of money to the South Yorkshire Flood Disaster Appeal instead of Children in Need.

I can't watch it, but not because of the dreadful celebs, but because of the heart wrenching stories of sick or dying children. I really can't bear
it. And I know that means I'm emotionally immature because some people are living it.

PS, Did Terry Wogan really charge 30k to present it??? I would have thought they would waive fees for it.

StrawberryTot · 15/11/2019 21:20

Nope, I don’t watch it, but I don’t watch tv so it’s no different for me. However what is HIGNFY?

Branster · 15/11/2019 21:20

Never, ever watched it. Same with Red Nose Day. Brave if you to start a thread on it OP as I believe it is meant to be a very popular programme.

Some excellent local charities have received money from Children in Need so while I don't watch it I have no problem with it.

There are smaller charities who aren't particularly media friendly but that doesn't mean they're not worthwhile. CIN provides a funding opportunity for them. That's something else I'm in favour of.
