Just that! Been asked for ID constantly lately and not been wearing makeup as giving my skin a break. I'm 40. This never normally happens. Do you think you look younger without makeup actually?

I’m not sure if I look younger. On a good day with a bit of a tan possibly.

I wish I could find a good make-up artist who wasn’t trying to sell me products who could give me a really nice every day make-up look that I could replicate at home.

Ohyesiam · 16/11/2019 15:47

I think I was beginning to look that way , then I discovered Make up for the mature face videos an you tube, tweaked a few things and now I wear very flattering make up. I’m not sure it makes me look younger, but it makes me look better. My “ young face” Male up was definitely making me look older. No make up bc and I look a bit haggered.

I am another one who looks younger without make-up - but uglier and ill!

I agree, OP, that make-up, however well applied, tends to make people look older. Just look at the TOWIE girls, they all look lovely young ladies without their make-up, and 45 with it.

I prefer how I look with make-up, but I am wearing it less and less now, and I definitely look younger - not young enough to be asked for ID, but if you put no-make-up me next to a made-up TOWIE lassie, we'd look the same age!

PaisleyPrintz · 16/11/2019 16:23

Most people look younger when not wearing make up, BUT only if they have healthy looking skin.

A light layer of tinted moisturiser, and a bit of mascara and lipstick, makes me look alive, as opposed to being asked 'if I'm feeling ok'.

DotForShort · 16/11/2019 16:32

Not necessarily younger, but I think most people look much better without makeup.

JusticeForSandra · 16/11/2019 16:41

hey, you are the one who needs make-up to feel good about yourself, so if being goady brings a bit more happiness to your life, go for it Wink

of course you would, of course. I don't think anyone on this forum has ever doubted it Smile

RyvitaBrevis · 16/11/2019 17:17

It's too much of a generalisation. I don't have much in the way of eyebrows or eyelashes, and a little brown mascara and subtle (!) eyebrow darkening takes at least 5 years off me. My skin is also naturally very red but unevenly so, and a light foundation prevents me from looking like I've been battered by the high winds of an Atlantic island for 50 years (I haven't!).

But everyone's different. I agree makeup can be very ageing.

If makeup is well applied with good products it can take years off someone's face. On the other hand heavy makeup, poor technique can make you look older.

Regarding women "tarting themselves up" on public transport, the poster who wrote it should find a book to read or do like all the other commuters and remain glued to their phones. Or catch up on some sleep. Nobody is annoyed by people putting makeup on.

Amazonfromkent · 16/11/2019 20:29

Nobody is going to tell you you look your age or older. Of course we all look younger and get IDd. Fgs. Where are all these 45 year old that look 20? I haven't seen any!

GooodMythicalMorning · 17/11/2019 06:32

I look ill without it. I don't notice if others are or aren't, neither do I care if they do or don't wear it.

mencken · 17/11/2019 14:52

jesus h christ. Nobody looks ill without makeup unless they actually are ill.

Nobody looks ugly without makeup. Quite a few look ugly with it - thick brows, huge red and black circles, mask like beige paint, the 'recently punched and lobotmised' instagram look, you know the thing.

desperately saddened that women in 2019 think so little of themselves.

AllStarBySmashMouth · 17/11/2019 14:55

Airport security asked my age last week because they thought I was a minor.

I wish I was joking.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 17/11/2019 15:10

Last few times I've been out with minimal make up I was asked for ID for a 15 film and asked how old I was by security when going to stand at a concert.. You have to be over 16..Im 30. Get the odd alcohol ID regardless

Never wear anything to heavy when do wear it. Do agree with what's been said it can age a lot if very heavily done.

Why do other people wish to tell them they actually look like shit with it? What is their MOTIVE?

Kindness? It's actually horrible to see how embarrassing and cringey someone looks, showing off because they think they are the business, whilst everybody cringes or laugh behind their back.

And it's so naive and hypocritical to pretend you only wear make-up for "yourself" when you spend your time claiming how good and attractive you are on an anonymous forum. It's very strange to be that bothered about your allegedly amazing physical appearance online, the level of insecurity runs VERY deep here Grin
