Just that! Been asked for ID constantly lately and not been wearing makeup as giving my skin a break. I'm 40. This never normally happens. Do you think you look younger without makeup actually?

No, My dark circles are very VERY severe. I have to wear several layers of products which only covers up by about 50% (I have hollows too) however it does take years off me. Wearing thick foundation however, ages. And I do need a lot of powder as I'm oily...also ageing. But if I only focus on the circles..add a bit of mascara and lip gloss (matte lips is ageing on me) definitely makes me look 10 yrs younger

alltoomuchrightnow · 14/11/2019 22:46

Oh I barely have a top lip and that's extremely ageing. So drawing in a fake one with nude matte lipliner, adding gloss or lipstick and a bit of highlighter on cupid's bow, is a huge difference

cupboardscleaned · 14/11/2019 22:51

I look better with it. Somehow I manage to go over my wrinkles perfectly (they are new wrinkles mind)
I do take a lot of effort in my appearance though. Mainly makes me feel better tbh and I enjoy makeup. I actually only started wearing it at 25 so maybe I'm a late starter!

Sohololopopo · 14/11/2019 23:09

Yes!

RosieCockle · 14/11/2019 23:15

I look about 53 with my purple bags and blotchy god-awful red complexion. However, throw me on a good canvas base, a lovely feline flick, some thick coats of mascara, and a pink blush for life in the cheeks and I almost look "girly". Like a pretty 42, which I am.

NotaWagon · 14/11/2019 23:18

In my 30s yes. Now in my late 40s im not sure. I just look better. And when you are older, looking less invisible is in itself less ageing

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 14/11/2019 23:30

There was a turning point for me, can't quite pin it down but early forties I think. Before that stage, I looked younger and absolutely fine without makeup. After the tipping point, now look younger better and fresher with a little makeup. It gives me a more even skin tone and brightens me up. A good BB cream with spf would be on my desert island list!

justilou1 · 14/11/2019 23:36

Less is definitely more when it comes to makeup at my age (47) - but more is more when it comes to skincare!!!

Mjlp · 14/11/2019 23:47

I agree. I'm 42 and don't really wear make up. People generally seem to think I'm a lot younger. I took my 15 year old daughter to the gp the other day and she said, "Are you her mum?! You look like sisters!" I'm very petite as well, so I don't know if that has something to do with it.

Countryescape · 15/11/2019 05:24

No! I think the opposite! Unless the makeup is way too heavy

FemininPluriel · 15/11/2019 05:34

When I was younger - 20s and 30s - yes. I could pass for 10 years younger without make-up. It’s one of the reasons I find the current trend for young women to wear extremely heavy, garish make up so odd. It ages then terribly.

In my 40s, though - definitely not. A light handed application of makeup brightens me up and stops me look too haggard.

CAG12 · 15/11/2019 06:07

I think its very much dependant on how its worn. If a light amount is put on to accentuate features in a natural way its nice. However its aging when people trowl it on. I think the same with dyed hair too.

Bluntness100 · 15/11/2019 06:14

I think much of this has to do with type of make up,

So heavy make up, with obvious colours, obvious eye liner, eye brows, lip line, eye shadow etc can be ageing, where as the "natural look" which just gently disguises any blemishes and enhances, doesn't.

And I think that's irrelevant of age of the wearer.

shearwater · 15/11/2019 06:17

It does depend on the face as well. People usually ask if I'm ill if they are not used to seeing me without makeup. I don't think I look younger without it, though I only wear if for going into the office and going out.

Zero79me · 15/11/2019 06:18

Depends on your face and 1 person asking for ID is not enough...

prawnsword · 15/11/2019 06:21

No I look haggard without a concealer/foundation & brightening up the eye area. Have hereditary dark circles, also poor sleep.

It really depends on your skills at applying makeup. With good artistry no it should not age you but enhance your features.

Outdated style makeup will age you & certain colours & shades won’t work on everyone.

FridalovesDiego · 15/11/2019 06:24

The fashion now for heavy make up and fillers is very aging. There is an instagrammer who keeps popping up on my feed who could be anything from about 45-65 (Although I suspect is actually much younger)

LellyMcKelly · 15/11/2019 07:05

I wear a tinted moisturiser, mascara and a lip gloss. I think that’s enough for me. It smooths things out without looking caked in the stuff.

Nyctophyllia · 15/11/2019 07:26

I look like I've been dug up without it

doublebarrellednurse · 15/11/2019 07:51

Why is it such an aim and achievement to look younger that we spend so much time talking about it?

ZaraW · 15/11/2019 09:25

I'm 48 I look better with make up. I don't wear a lot but CC cream evens out my skin tone. Mascara and brow powder adds definition and some cream blusher and natural lipstick make me look healthier. I have very pale skin and red hair. My friends who are the same age with olive skin and dark brows and lashes look great without make up. I'm not one of those people.

Kelsoooo · 15/11/2019 09:55

It depends on how bad I look haha.

I'm 30, and not wearing makeup, face only, I can pass for much younger - because I suffer with acne still, and my eyes are quite round.

When I wear makeup, I'm kind of ageless. Depends what eye makeup I do. No shadow, just mascara and brows, young 20s. Heavy eyeshadow and eyeliner, anywhere between 30+50.

But my figure gives me away, I've clearly got a body changed by having children. I'm not fat. I'm not slim. On paper I'm slim, but in reality I've got that typical hips/tummy combo going on.

StarlingsInSummer · 15/11/2019 09:57

There's probably a tipping point when you start looking younger when you wear make-up... different age for everyone depending how blessed you've been by good genes.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 15/11/2019 10:05

It really depends on how you wear it. Obvious make up it hideously aging, only really young women can get away with it. But if you wear well applied subtle makeup then it will even put you skin tone etc and make you look younger and fresher.

EmmiJay · 15/11/2019 10:07

Well I'm black with a round face so I'm bound to look 25 for the rest of my life because as they say...black don't crack.🤗
