Just that! Been asked for ID constantly lately and not been wearing makeup as giving my skin a break. I'm 40. This never normally happens. Do you think you look younger without makeup actually?

We have our summer holidays in the mountains hiking. Obviously I don't wear make-up and usually braid my hair to keep it out of my face. I got charged the child's price for the Ski Lift last year. I'm in my early 30's. My 40 year old husband thought it was hilarious. Our 10 year old DD hates people thinking I'm her sister though.

Never get ID'd with make up on though

NoSauce · 15/11/2019 10:11

God no. I look about 100 without it.

I used to look younger pre-child without make up- now I look older and more haggard.

simplificate · 15/11/2019 10:18

True for me. I'd rather look older and better with kickass red lips, though.

JorisBonson · 15/11/2019 10:19

I look like an 8 year old boy without make up

newnameforthis76 · 15/11/2019 10:20

Completely depends on the makeup and how you wear it. Some makeup can be ageing if it's badly applied or not right for your skin type and colouring. But the right makeup, correctly applied, can make people's eyes and complexion look brighter, skin look firmer and more glowy and fine lines less noticeable.

Jeleste · 15/11/2019 10:21

I get asked for ID when i dont wear makeup. I also get asked if im sick though, so i try to avoid going makeup free Grin

PlanDeRaccordement · 15/11/2019 10:39

To be honest, they prefer to ask ID of the obviously too young and the obviously of age. Clerks do not like to ask anyone who looks young but may be of age because people have been known to get offended. Once you are 40, you are in the safe zone where asking for ID is now a compliment and not any chance of offending the customer.

Hannahmates · 15/11/2019 10:41

It depends on what kind of makeup you usually do. Heavy make up can definitely age people. In my experience when you go with the "no make up" make up look it can make you look younger.

VardySheWrote · 15/11/2019 10:47

Absolutely.

Well applied make-up can genuinely improve your appearance. The problem is with women who believed that being caked in it will give them a different face. It really doesn't - you still look exactly the same, but with obviously fake and artificial colours. And it's not a good look.

Some women also don't understand the importance of lightning in your appearance. Heavy make-up for a night in a dark club might work very well, at 7am in natural light.. not so much.

Either you keep it subtle and to a minimum, but if you wear the same thing in your open-plan office with brash artificial light from the ceiling, and for a cosy restaurant with table lightning, you are doing it very wrong.

I look better with a toned body than a face full of make-up, so I prefer go to the gym than painting my face. Overall it works Grin

PennyNotSoWise · 15/11/2019 10:56

For me personally, I think I look younger without, but prettier with it, so I wear it a lot. Have a round baby face, so I like to contour my cheeks.

I think it depends on the individual. If you have hollow under eyes that are dark, then you won't look younger without it, or if your skin is sallow looking, same. Make up, done right, can absolutely make the right person look younger, and the wrong person look older.

It's all about finding what works best for you.

Jaxhog · 15/11/2019 11:01

I don't! But it only takes a little bit to make the difference. I'm fair so need a bit of colour on eyebrows and lashes, and foundation to even out the skin tone. I doubt anyone thinks I wear makeup though.

The one thing I DO need though is a good SPF base. Nothing ages you more than sun-damaged skin.

prawnsword · 15/11/2019 11:06

I refuse to believe a tinted moisturiser, concealer, mascara & a swipe of lippie/balm/gloss doesn’t make you glow

Babdoc · 15/11/2019 11:07

I’m a retired anaesthetist, and had to get patients to remove their make up in the anaesthetic room pre surgery, so mascara didn’t get ground into their eyes under the tapes, etc.
Without exception, they all looked far better without the claggy stuff! I’ve never worn it myself - couldn’t waste that much time in the mornings, too expensive, and as a rad fem I objected to the idea that men are naturally beautiful but women need to hide their ugly faces under a pile of crap sold to them by a patriarchal cosmetic industry for fat profits. I also cared more about being a competent doctor than what I looked like in a mirror.

I agree. I watched some dating show a while back and all the women looked 30-35, then they would say their age and they were all early 20's! I mean yes, they looked nice. But they looked a lot older than they actually were.

JusticeForSandra · 15/11/2019 11:20

Too much make-up doesn't work on men either

astralweaks · 15/11/2019 11:29

When you say makeup, do you mean foundation??

astralweaks · 15/11/2019 11:30

If foundation, then I agree. Fresh clean skin is better.

prawnsword · 15/11/2019 11:33

Makeup for men is hopefully the way of the future

Polydactyly · 15/11/2019 11:33

Up until fairly recently I would be asked for ID for everything (including an energy drink at one point).
Since giving birth to my daughter they have an option that says something like “Is very clearly over 25” and they all pick that one Sad
I rarely wear make up. I’ve never been any good at applying it.
If I do I do think it makes me look older because it’s so poorly done but I haven’t tried since having my DD. Not sure anything can cover these wrinkles now lol

Honeybee85 · 15/11/2019 11:34

I agree fully OP.
Esspecially foundation. I use concealer on the spots that need it and that’s it. I also noticed lately that powder blush really sits in my enlarged pores and it makes my skin look older. I discovered a great cream blusher this afternoon and it makes my skin look very natural so I will happily use that one from now on.

You haven't seen my skin!

charm8ed · 15/11/2019 11:36

No I don’t look younger without makeup, I look older, uglier and knackered. I don’t wear foundation but do wear mascara, a lot of blusher, lip stick and I dye my eyebrows each week.
