AIBU toast and sandwich irritation

This is lighthearted!

People that don't cut toast or sandwiches In half to eat them! Drives me mad.

Just saying.

I usually do, except when it's a banana and peanut butter sandwich. They have to be kept whole so you can eat round all the edges first and then have all the central squidginess last.

CornishMaid1 · 13/11/2019 12:55

Another butter slicer here.

We also have a Breville sandwich toaster which does cut into triangles.

I would always cut a sandwich and toast - I just use the knife used to butter them. Our 'argument' is over which way to cut. DH has to have triangles and I cut across the middle. I watched a programme with Gordon Ramsey a few months ago and apparently diagonally means you are posh and across the middle is 'council estate'. I just think that was how all sandwiches were when I was growing up and not sure triangles had made it here then!

I quarter burgers. And sandwiches and toast. Basically I like to make everything into as many portions as possible so it looks like there's more of it.

I love food.

DriftingLeaves · 13/11/2019 13:02

Diagonally, of course.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 13/11/2019 13:05

Im a savage Grin

I can quite happily eat toast or sandwiches folded, cut, not cut, whichever way they turn out depends on the filling & also how quick im wanting to insert it into my face!!

I also take random bites as i am making said items Grin

I dont eat bread very often so i turn into a bit of an animal on the rare occasions i have it!!!!

MrsEricBana · 13/11/2019 13:05

my DS FOLDS his toast

😲 Passes out. Bonk.

CIT80 · 13/11/2019 13:06

Toast folded and dunked in tea !!!

PurpleSproutingSomething · 13/11/2019 13:10

I am a fellow toast folderer.

silencebeforethebleeps · 13/11/2019 13:12

You would hate me. I put the toppings of my choice on a single slice of bread and eat it with knife and fork, cutting it into bite sized pieces as I go.

Ludways · 13/11/2019 13:17

If eating a single slice... uncut
Two or more slices.... cut

I thought everyone knew these rules.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 13/11/2019 13:17

I eat pizza with a knife and fork. Grin

Toast uncut, sandwiches cut on the diagonal. Unless it's a 4 fish finger sandwich in which case it's cut across the middle so you get 4 bits of fish finger in each part. Wink

JorisBonson · 13/11/2019 13:18

People who put uncut toast on a big plate Angry

HarryDaylight · 13/11/2019 13:19

Toast soldiers here.

Doubleraspberry · 13/11/2019 13:20

Fishfinger AND sausage sandwiches have to be cut into oblongs.

HarryDaylight · 13/11/2019 13:21

I don't cut fried egg sandwiches. That would be daft.

DKmamma · 13/11/2019 13:25

Agree. Utter savagery. If you don't cut your sandwich in half you risk all the filling falling out as you struggle to support the unwieldy beast.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 13/11/2019 13:25

I rip my toast if it's just normal sliced bread... does noone else do that? Just pull pieces off the sides and eat them? If it's a strong crusty bread like proper sourdough I'll eat it as a whole piece though.

Flouncysinatra · 13/11/2019 13:28

I had a family member who had a very specific way of eating (uncut) toast. It went as follows

  1. Take a bit from each corner. This results in a sort of cross shape of remaining toast.
  1. Proceed to eat each section of the cross one by one.
  1. Roll the little middle bit that remained into a doughy ball and stuff into mouth.

I found it fascinating to yet horrific to watch.

jomaIone · 13/11/2019 13:30

I will always cut a sandwiches into 2 triangles for me, and 4 for my toddler but if it's a bread roll sandwich I wouldn't cut that.

If I'm in a rush and eating a quick slice of toast for breakfast while doing other things I will eat it whole. But if I'm sitting with a tea and peanut butter honey toast then I'll cut into triangles.

diddl · 13/11/2019 13:31

I cut sandwiches in half, but not toast!

Difficultcustomer · 13/11/2019 13:36

Don’t cut myself because I haven’t got a good knife so would be more like hacking. I get around this by using thins for work sandwiches.

If cut should be triangles. Once seen someone cut into four squares - just wrong!

kateandme · 13/11/2019 13:36

Depends what's on the toast
Jam on white 1/4s
Marmite on white or brown 1/2 or sometimes wholeon brown
Grated cheese triangles
Cheap ham 1/4 like old school picked lunch
Something with salad 1/2
It's all so complicated!

My gran cuts hers into 1/8s and we gasp

kateandme · 13/11/2019 13:37

Bagels?
Crumpets
Muffins
Rolls
Baguettes
Penini

Shannith · 13/11/2019 13:38

I also don't eat much bread so when I do, I make it count...

One slice toast - slices of butter, bread unsliced
Or sometimes cut into 4 squares.

Cheese on toast, 4 squares for dipping into ketchup/Worcester sauce combo

Welsh rarebit - eaten with salad and knife and fork

One slice sandwich, folded so all filling remains in

Two slice sandwich - mostly just when grabbing one out and about so 2 triangles as per dictated by Pret

Chip butties - one slice bread, slices of butter, as many chippy chips as can be crammed in, drowned in salt and pepper. All squidged up.

Toasted sandwiches - 2 or 4 triangles.

Love the "and that's what's wrong with being working class" just perfect.

Parent are working class, before I get jumped on.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/11/2019 13:41

I watched a programme with Gordon Ramsey a few months ago and apparently diagonally means you are posh and across the middle is 'council estate'. I just think that was how all sandwiches were when I was growing up and not sure triangles had made it here then!

There was a Christmas episode of the royal family where Denise was hosting her parents and in-laws for Christmas dinner. There were gasps of admiration when she offered them a slice of bread (unbuttered white sliced) to go with their "carrot surprise" (or whatever it was) because she gave them a choice of having it cut into triangles or rectangles . . .

Dave's dad asked if he could have one triangle and one rectangle, but unfortunately she had to turn down this outrageous request, as it was too complicated.
