Friend owing money, don't know what to do

I lent a friend nearly £1000 when he was stuck last year. He was working FT and told me he would pay me back weekly with his paycheck...

In 15 months he's paid me £120.

I've just lost patience with him and told him so. He's retaliated telling me that he will pay me back x total, and y per payday. Apparently I'm unreasonable for saying this paltry amount is an insult.

Despite working FT, he has an expensive weed habit Hmm aibu to insist he pays more to clear the debt and do without his luxuries (!) until he has?

He has an expensive weed habit. Yeah. No shit Sherlock. That’s probably where you £1,000 went. If his habit is that bad.
He needs professional help. It’s not for you to be subsiding.

sparkl I hate to say this but they're right. It isn't that the two posters are choosing to be horrible to you, they are perplexed, as am I, as to why you would lend £1,000 who is barely a friend.

I doubt I'd lend anyone that amount of money (except maybe close family) unless I'd set up a properly legal repayment plan.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/11/2019 11:52

Although without proof that you lent and not gifted him the money along with a written agreement.
I really don’t think there’s much you can do.

BlackCatSleeping · 12/11/2019 12:51

It doesn’t matter why she lent the money. It’s done now, so she just needs advice on how to get it back.

Exactly @Roussette thanks. Definitely perplexed.
