Just that really.

No, sadly not.

Kubo · 10/11/2019 20:39

I don’t think anyone has ever called me pretty. Maybe my children when I’ve got dressed up? I’ve had other compliments but never pretty, think it’s quite a strange thing to say to an adult woman.

Fakeflowersaremynewnormal · 10/11/2019 20:40

I know someone who is 49 and I consider her pretty but probably would tell her she is.

Neolara · 10/11/2019 20:41

No. But they didn't when I was younger either. I agree with the previous poster who said it's not really a word used to describe an older woman. More a kid or very young woman.

sonjadog · 10/11/2019 20:42

Well, I'm only 45 but no-one tells me I am pretty at this age either. On the other hand, "pretty" isn't really what I aspire to.

DingDongDenny · 10/11/2019 20:43

I'm 49 and quite depressed at how invisible I am sometimes. Not that I was ever gorgeous, but I was alright.

Justgivemesomepeace · 10/11/2019 20:43

My 6yr old does but he just loves me. I have been told I scrub up ok. Pretty? Think those days are long gone. I look like my Uncle Frank these days.

FourQuarters · 10/11/2019 20:45

Two threads on this, OP?

beckyvardy · 10/11/2019 20:49

My husband still better tell me!

firesong · 10/11/2019 20:52

My boss is pretty at that age and I tell her she is.

wishiwasinbarbados · 10/11/2019 20:54

fourquarters

Yeah, sorry. I posted one first then thought it would do better in the other section. Blush

At 52 I get told that I'm attractive.

I used to get told I was pretty a lot, as well as sexy, I was, but I'm glad it's got more respectful. I'm also glad that street harassment etc has stopped, but men still talk to my breasts.

wishiwasinbarbados · 10/11/2019 20:57

Yes, "attractive" would be good to hear.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 10/11/2019 20:59

"You look great" is what I hear when I've made an effort. That's good enough for me at 45.

Actually DH tells me I'm pretty, usually when we're having a candlelit dinner and the lighting is flattering...plus neither of us have the best eyesight nowadays. Grin

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 10/11/2019 21:01

Pretty? Nah! 😄

I have been told that I scrub up well, once I'm prised out of my jodphurs and hi viz jacket.

When I was about 7, I was looking in the mirror, and turned to my mum and said
" Mum? Am I pretty? "

My mum regarded me critically with pursed lips and said " Nay lass - tha not pretty. I'd say you're plain..." She was not slow to point out your shortcomings was my Mum 😃

JaceLancs · 10/11/2019 21:01

I’m 55 and get told I’m attractive, stunning, young looking, good for your age (not a stealth boast) never get told I’m pretty - seems to be more of a compliment for children/young

JellyfishAndShells · 10/11/2019 21:02

My husband compliments me - though don’t think he uses the word pretty . SaysI have beautiful skin and amazing cheekbones (thanks, genetics) I have friend who is way past 49 and is pretty - and referred to as, rather than beautiful or attractive : she has sparkling eyes, bouncy hair and a permanent natural smile ( no resting bitch face for her ).

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 10/11/2019 21:06

I'm not hugely interested in other people's opinions at this point in my life anyway - as long as my DH fancies me and I feel good about my appearance, that's all that matters.

My grandma was "pretty" at 80, lovely skin and curly white hair. That's not what made her my lovely grandma, though, that all came from the inside.

SemperIdem · 10/11/2019 21:07

A friend of a friend is very pretty, I’ve told her she is myself more than once. I thought she was late 30’s (not that it made any difference to my thoughts) Came about in conversation yesterday that she’s actually late 40’s - so I would say yes, people do say that

BreconBeBuggered · 10/11/2019 21:11

DH still calls me pretty, and I'm in my 50s. I think I look like the wrath of God, but he's got used to my face.

Phoebesgift · 10/11/2019 21:12

I get told I'm good looking. I'm no spring chick but I don't feel invisible yet. Wrong side of 45 here.

Ritascornershop · 10/11/2019 21:13

No, at some point it switched over to (only women) telling me I’m thin and people saying they thought I was a good bit younger than I am. I really don’t look massively different, but am clearly middle-aged so apparently just “look great for your age”. I think men still get told they’re handsome at this age.

Pipsandpops · 10/11/2019 21:17

A 92 year old lady told me I was pretty and that I had a lovely face last week. I’ve not been told that since my late 30’s. I’m mid 40’s now and invisible.

Beamur · 10/11/2019 21:22

I just asked DH and he said I looked pretty earlier. I was pleased about something and (in his words) not telling him off about for doing something wrong Grin

likeafishneedsabike · 10/11/2019 21:23

Mmmmm. I was a quite ‘pretty’ girl. People used to say it, and looking back I can now see it in a way I didn’t then. Having mainly lost my looks in my 40s, on a good day I get told I look ‘well’ (fat?), ‘glamorous’, or ‘stylish’, or ‘nice’. No longer pretty, but never mind.
