I think it’s still full of absolute bitter bitches.

It’s all fine here hun.

Morgan12 · 09/11/2019 08:13

I have noticed thats it's become a bit boring of late. There used to be much more interesting threads.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 09/11/2019 08:17

People who have dyslexia and those who do not have English as a first language also benefitted from that. The odd typo can be worked around, as can reading dialect (like of/have, as long as you are fluent in English). But once it's acceptable to use non-standard, error-riddled English, it becomes barrier.

I did! I learned how to use some words such as eloquent in a right context. Never heard anyone to say it in real life.

And yes some posts are just too hard for me to understand so I just leave it. And my English is actually quite good. I can deal with odd syntax etc (I have syntax issues myself), but not with some other things. It must be pretty hard for people with dyslexia and other issues to read some posts.

There are blind posters here using special programs to communicate and the lack of punctuation, cohesive sentences and right words (odd mistake happens to everyone, but sometimes it's just too many so it becomes confusing) must be making it super hard for them.

I get that writing can be hard for someone, but re-reading posts in preview would most likely help.

I never comment on grammar on their threads though.

TheSquashyHatOfMrGnosspelius · 09/11/2019 08:22

It's not just on here. People in general have no resilience of any sort in real life. There is a real 'someone should do something' attitude going on nowadays. If their wants and needs aren't delivered on a silver platter people seem to dissolve into a wibbly mess of screaming and hand flapping.

Courtney555 · 09/11/2019 08:25

I don't see too much of the grammar police on here to be fair. Although I do see volumes of hun-speak, people being professionally offended over everything and terrible grammar and spelling that just wasn't prevalent 5+ years ago.

Hun is not representative of the person. Hun is more the general thought process and approach to life.

MN was the one place to avoid that. It's not about being superior. It's about a basic standard/ethos/mutual respect and understanding that has significantly dropped, and it's a shame.

Vulpine · 09/11/2019 08:27

How does one pronounce 'nethuns'?

dudsville · 09/11/2019 08:28

In my mind I like to picture MNHQ keeping a score board. Frequency of threads about washing, frequency of threads about dog/neighbours, frequency of threads about MN going downhill. I wonder if they place bets?

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 09/11/2019 08:28

I have noticed thats it's become a bit boring of late. There used to be much more interesting threads.

Yep. Nevermind the textspeak, professionally offended attitude etc - there used to be so many clever, funny threads. They are a rarity now.

NerrSnerr · 09/11/2019 08:31

If people want some clever, funny threads then start some?

EntropyRising · 09/11/2019 08:37

“DH doesn’t fancy me” instead of a resounding “LTB” is met with a few “treat urself to a make over xx” type comments as well as “LTB”

Net - Hun?

pictish · 09/11/2019 08:41

Grow up. Seriously - you’re being cliquey, childish and small on this one. This is a public forum, anyone can join. We’re not a tribe.

pictish · 09/11/2019 08:45

Also, being haughty about grammar and spelling, people’s choice of terms and expressions or use of xx, has the opposite effect of that which you believe it does. It doesn’t mark you out as superior to those people or having higher standards to uphold...it makes you seem insecure and peevish, looking for ways to elevate yourself by putting another person down.

Iamnotagoddess · 09/11/2019 08:46

Have a spa day.

PortiaCastis · 09/11/2019 08:57

Im laughing at those calling others stupid when they're stupid enough to post on this site which is apparently beneath them.

littlemeitslyn · 09/11/2019 09:31

What is nethuns ?

saraclara · 09/11/2019 09:39

It must be pretty hard for people with dyslexia and other issues to read some posts.

Surely it's the people with dyslexia who are making those posts?

singswithitsfingers · 09/11/2019 10:24

@littleme it's netmums. So called because apparently they say 'hun' a lot.

Stealthymcstealth · 09/11/2019 11:09

@ViciousJackdaw I was referring to women (yes more than one) being strangled and beaten to death and the perpetrators getting away with it under the guise of rough sex.

Maybe pop your head in there.

MsPotterPepper · 09/11/2019 11:55

Surely it's the people with dyslexia who are making those posts?

^this pisses me off. The mistakes that are being made are largely NOT dyslexic mistakes.

elQuintoConyo · 09/11/2019 12:05

Good god, is this thread still going?

Mean people are mean. And pathetic. Go start your own snob-in forum, like the Mouldies of Yore did.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 09/11/2019 12:53

Good god, is this thread still going?

No, it stopped three pages ago. The last three only exist in your imagination.

I agree with the posters who have said it isn’t about SPAG - it’s the nonsense that goes with it. Another poster described it as ‘cheerleading’, which I think sums it up well.

There’s a thread running at the moment where the OP wants to offer £100k below the asking price on a house. It needs huge amounts of work and she admits that even this very low offer would wipe her out. The first few posters kindly but clearly told her it was unlikely to happen. Her response was ‘Oh no! Sad I thought you’d all tell me to go for it!! SadSad’ Then someone else chimes in saying she got £200k off the price of her house so never give up, follow your dreams etc. Then the OP responds with ‘Thank you, wow, you have given me hope again!!! ShockSmile

Yes - false bloody hope. It started a queue of people saying ‘Awwh, you never know, keep positive, anything could happen’. It might all sound very nice, but it was completely impractical and not what was needed at all.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 09/11/2019 13:06

There’s a thread running at the moment where the OP wants to offer £100k below the asking price on a house.
Did the OP finally ask what the price actually is?

PortiaCastis · 09/11/2019 13:13

Careful or this will be a TAAT or perhaps as it's referencing other threads it is anyway

Frouby · 09/11/2019 13:14

I sometimes feel there are far more sagalike threads lately, with posters demanding updates every hour, on the hour. The Barbour jacket was one. Which was then revealed (I think) as a troll. There was another popped up that I suspect is probably also a troll in a similar vein, and lots of overinvested posters.

Spelling and grammar doesn't bother me. But hunz and all that shit gets on my tits.
