Friends, the one where we get annoyed

Light hearted!

I like Friends but I often have moments of getting annoyed by it.

Rachel and Monica would never have been best friends at high school. One was a popular cheerleader type and the other was an overweight, immature nerd ... you’re telling me that in an American high school these two girls would have been besties?

Joey is loved by everyone, yet he’s a sexist player that disregards and disrespects women and he’s thick as pig shit with no job - but he’s so lovable 🤔

Ross is the bad guy in the whole Carol and Susan thing yet his wife cheated on him, Susan insisted that the baby was as much hers as it was his (??!!) and he’s expected to just accept it? I hate Susan!!

What annoys you about Friends?

(Before anyone starts, no I don’t make a habit of calling people fat nerds but the program specifically plays on this which is why I said it)

I also hate Ross’ son and his stupid bowl haircut

What?! He's a kid. What did he do lol?! Grin
(Admittedly he was annoying in the practical joke episode but that was only because Rachel had decided to be "Fun Aunt Rachel" and taught him to cellophane the toilet seat, mark a penny so it marked your face when doing a trick and swapping sugar for salt... Smile

She was so beautiful, it's sad to see what she has done to her face.

The Geller siblings were my least favourite of the friends, but Jack Geller in particular was comedy gold.

The calibre of the supporting cast were a huge addition. I’d single out Jack Geller, Janice and Gunther as adding hugely to Friends success.

Haha I love friends. I can't find anything that annoys me apart from the American audience laughter after every joke lol

Monica was always my favourite, she still is. I never really liked Phoebe, I always thought she was a very selfish character.

I loved Janice! And she was actually a nice person so not sure why she was so hated!

Ben was really irritating

Of course some things in it aren't realistic it's a sitcom! With the adoption thing why would they go into the deep realities and time it would take in real life, it's a 22 minute comedy show!

There are some jokes that have dated but let's not forget it must have been the first show to have a lesbian wedding and for all his faults Ross supported them so much he walked her down the aisle and had that whole speech about how they should get married because they loved each other. That was massively ahead of its time.

I hate friends full stop... my husband loves it which means I’ve seen from start to finish and can honestly say I don’t get the hype around it

Every time someone has a baby they all go to the hospital as soon as the first twinge is felt.

I love friends. They're all my age so I grew up with them.
The adoption story line annoyed me. We were adopting our first baby when Chandler and Monica were going through their adoption and I can tell you it takes a lot more than one social worker visit.

When the baby turns out to be girl boy twins..... Come on!

Okay I love Friends and have just finished binge watching the entire series but one thing I'll mention that nobody has:

Remember how mad Monica got on the night of her engagement because Rachel stole her thunder? Then at Monica's actual wedding Rachel announced (granted, only to the girls) that she was pregnant? Monica didn't mind at all?!

I also hate how Ok they all were with Ross dating one of his students.

That's not how I remember it at all.

They took the piss out of him for the entire duration of the relationship, and that's pretty much why he ended up dumping her.

From what I remember he didnt dump her. She dumped him as he didnt trust her to go away on spring break without him?
She dumped him and pelted him with water balloons I think.

I absolutely adore friends. Have watched each episode at least 100 times.

Things that stand out for me;

  • Their apartment numbers changing (only something small but it irritates me to no end.)

  • The way Ross and Phoebe go running through the airport to catch Rachel and get there so fast, what about security?

  • The fact that they're always in the coffee shop, even when they're on the way to/having a break from work. They can't all work on the same street as Central Perk.

Not one that annoys me as much as makes me sad (and adds a bit of a discrepancy)

The episodes where Matthew Perry is clearly in the midst of his addiction and looks incredibly frail and skinny.
It really takes away from the Chandler character and I find it uncomfortable to watch.

I loved it at the time.

When I see re-runs now it’s the outrageous homophobia that makes me cringe. It’s there at every turn.

Didn’t “that’s so gay” as an insult come from Friends?

I do find it hard to watch now.

Otherwise the annoying things are the issues with every other long running series. The writers shy away from anything new and eventually the characters become appalling caricatures of themselves.

Nope, sorry LivingLaVidaLoki, Ross finally realised she was too young and dumped her but as he left her apartment, was having second thoughts and thinking that she was mature enough then she threw the water bombs.

Can't believe people saying Monica was just 'chubby', she was obese! Her dancing was one of my favourite bits. >> off to youtube

She dumped him as he didnt trust her to go away on spring break without him?

No, he ended up on MTV as he went on Spring Break with Elizabeth. He decided to dump her because the others were taking the piss out of the age difference. When she took the break up quite well, he thought he may have been a bit eager until she pelted him with water balloons*

*I may have watched too much Friends.

Did you know the kid who played Ben now plays Jughead on Riverdale?

I couldn’t bear how Ross made Rachel get rid of the lovely Manny who played Greensleeves to baby Emma on the recorder and did puppet shows for Joey.
