Friends, the one where we get annoyed

Light hearted!

I like Friends but I often have moments of getting annoyed by it.

Rachel and Monica would never have been best friends at high school. One was a popular cheerleader type and the other was an overweight, immature nerd ... you’re telling me that in an American high school these two girls would have been besties?

Joey is loved by everyone, yet he’s a sexist player that disregards and disrespects women and he’s thick as pig shit with no job - but he’s so lovable 🤔

Ross is the bad guy in the whole Carol and Susan thing yet his wife cheated on him, Susan insisted that the baby was as much hers as it was his (??!!) and he’s expected to just accept it? I hate Susan!!

What annoys you about Friends?

(Before anyone starts, no I don’t make a habit of calling people fat nerds but the program specifically plays on this which is why I said it)

Chandler has to be introduced to Rachel each time and...Chandler had even kissed her once!

Pretty sure I wouldn’t recognize everyone I’ve ever kissed Blush

My DD is watching Friends through for the first time at the moment and it's been interesting sharing it with her. She asked me who my favourite character was the other day.....Janice! I loved her. DD didn't get that at all! Chandler was, and remains, my favourite of the boys.

Agree that Susan was terrible and I hated her every time she was on the screen!

There was an episode that started by taking the piss out of how they always get the sofa.

They walked in to find a group sitting at it, looked at each in a 'huh' kind of way, and walked out.

The part I hate most about friends is how my husband used to play it on repeat marathon style for nearly a year before I hid the DVDs.

....joke was on me. Live streaming came out shortly after.

He still watches them. I still hate them.

But what can a girl do? Wine

@QueenOfTheAndals
Wasn't there an episode about some bullies who kept stealing the sofa from the friends?

Yes, series 2, The One With The Bullies I think?
Jeez I need to get out more for knowing that Grin
Where Chandler and Ross encountered some bullies in the coffee shop who nicked the sofa and Chandler's hat to boot lol

I agree. I also generally think Ross is a twat but I do agree with him on one thing- they were on a break!

Oh, pffft! It was literally one night, as Rachel would say he sure had a hell of a time at the wake! Grin
You don't shag someone the night your girlfriend says you should take a break from each other, I mean she went round the next morning to make up and Xerox girl's side of the bed was still warm and she was still in the flat!
Not to mention the reason she wanted a breather in the first place was because he was being such a massive jealous, controlling nob about her being friends with Mark in the first place even if she hadn't done anything to warrant that.

I always wanted to see more of Joeys Ma. I thought she was utterly brilliant
She was cool Smile Although she needed a slap too lol for being such a walkover knowing her husband was boffing other women and pretending not to know, it was his hubby, why did Joey have to tell her etc?!

Now aware I watch faaaaar too much Friends haha

Agree that in the later series they all came across as caricatures of themselves. I love the first few seasons so much more.

Phoebe comes across as a loveable flaky hippy she's actually a real bitch if you pay attention 😆

Sorry was meant to quote a op who asked how they could afford the apartment on their jobs when talking about Monica's apt

Report
happycamper11 · 10/11/2019 14:33

They are rent controlled apartments/ Monica inherited hers from a relative: Monica and Rachel were friends before high school but started to drift apart - they hadn't seen each other for a long time when the met at the start of friends and Monica wasn't even invited to Rachel's wedding

I think it was implied Phoebe's dad was in prison which is why he missed her wedding.

Report
StillCoughingandLaughing · 10/11/2019 14:17

Another thing that annoys me - where does Phoebe’s dad go? Three different episodes are dedicated to her search for her dad, but once she finally finds him, she never sees or even mentions him again. I get that him being a flake is part of his character - therefore it could be seen as quite realistic - but wouldn’t Phoebe at least mention that that was their one and only meeting after all that?

Ross and the spray tan was another cracker.

“So I went to that new tanning place your wife recommended.”

“Was that place...THE SUN?!”

Also Ross and whitened teeth...his vanity was always a great vehicle for comedy. He was a brilliant character.

Ross and the leather trousers...oh my very God, one of the funniest episodes there was

That's one of my faves too, along with the 'I'm an EIGHT?!!' and Brad Pitt episodes. However you feel about Ross as a character, David Schwimmer is a very funny actor.

David Schwimmer is a top-notch physical comic. I was genuinely crying.

Plus Ross ALWAYS got his comeuppance...he was his own worst enemy and I feel that was always successfully portrayed.

But the worst scene by far is the one between Chandler and the male nurse.

Chandler mocks him for being “girly” and the nurse replies “I was on the front line in the Gulf War. Didn’t feel so girly then”.

I facepalmed so hard at the missed point, and I didn’t even know what facepalming was at the time!

I hated Susan. She was a terrible actress.

I know Ross has his problems but he's my favourite character. He pulls the best faces and has the funniest storylines. His teeth, his sandwich, his job where white coats can't sit with blue blazers Grin

He was a twat to poor Mona though.

coatlessinspokane · 10/11/2019 12:41

I hated how it portrayed women as gold diggers. Rachel was always overly concerned with the money potential dates earned.

And Monica wanted to spend Chandler’s money on the wedding.
