... to want to scream- husband thinks my hobby is “deeply unattractive”

It’s cold and rainy and all day I was looking forward to starting a new knitting project. After dinner I settled down with my wool and needles and and my husband started with the sighing. After the usual rigmarole I dragged it out of him… seeing me knit is “deeply unattractive”, it’s for sexless, boring, tedious women and he hates seeing my projects laying around because it’s a “stringy depressing mess” and I should find something more interesting to do with my time.

I’m absolutely furious at the sexism and stupidity but also really sad because I love knitting- it’s cozy and peaceful and meditative. But now it’s ruined.

Knit him a tiny sock for his tiny dick.

DimensionalShambler · 07/11/2019 23:24

Husband’s hobbies are watching depressing war documentaries and paying obscene amounts of money for rare vinyl that he never listens to. In case anyone wondered. At least he’s not a cyclist (I actually am a cyclist but as a means of transport rather than a personality trait).

I’m speechless
DP loves seeing me knitting!
It’s usually something for him - currently part way through a traditional fisherman’s sweater and he knows the effort n love that goes into every stitch

Quellium · 07/11/2019 23:25

Lol @ Aquamarine.

This has made really sad for you OP. What a fucker.

squeekums · 07/11/2019 23:25

What a dick
I love footy and wrestling, if my dp ever told me they were unattractive, id laugh at him. Well dont be around me when i participate them, simples
What hobbies would be acceptable to him, bikini modelling?

Puppybum · 07/11/2019 23:26

I watched a woman knit a scarf on a wierd circular needle on a train once. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen

Gardai · 07/11/2019 23:26

Perhaps he’s jealous of your hobby as his are so shit ?

IShouldBeSoLurky · 07/11/2019 23:26

*What a knob. How does he spend his spare time, fucking lion taming?!

Sexist twat.*

So, so funny. And absolutely right.

AlunWynsKnee · 07/11/2019 23:26

My grandad used to knit his own socks. He would be 100 today and was in the RMP.

EKGEMS · 07/11/2019 23:26

Any person who would utter such a moronic and sexist statement like your husband just did would be tempting me to plunge a knitting needle into his thigh

Eckhart · 07/11/2019 23:26

What are his hobbies, OP?

WalkingInTheAir13 · 07/11/2019 23:27

@Cinammoncake @Neome

All aboard the Skylark!

I remember Nelly knitting those cosies for everything but I don't recall Noah saying that she was deeply unattractive!

JaceLancs · 07/11/2019 23:27

DP barber (lovely gay guy)
Always comments on DP fab sweaters - so I made a lovely traditional Aran jumper for barber (hi Ricky if you are reading this)
He was made up n I get an extra big hug when I see him

Butterymuffin · 07/11/2019 23:28

New rigmarole:
Him: ‘Big sighs
You: Continue to knit
Him:‘REALLY BIG SIGHS'
Me:‘Maybe you're getting a chest infection. You should see the doctor. Wheezing is deeply unattractive' continues to knit
Etc. Etc. Ad infinitum

DimensionalShambler · 07/11/2019 23:31

@butterymuffin excellent thank you

everythingisginandroses · 07/11/2019 23:31

Dearie me. His hobbies sound rubbish. What a berk.

Butterisbest · 07/11/2019 23:31

Do you use metal needles? can they be sharpened? Could you accidentally thrust one into his head/chest/leg/arm/mouth/testicles/ penis/foot/eye or any other body part.
To be serious I'd tell him that his comment that your hobby is deeply unattractive puts him in the category of misogynistic arseholes 101. Get rid, if you can and it's doable, he's a shit.

Charley50 · 07/11/2019 23:33

I remember Noah and Nelly!
I'm reading this with my DP. He can knit. And crochet. I can't do either, but we both think your DH is a twat.

I'm gonna ask my DP to knit me a jumper now.

57Varieties · 07/11/2019 23:35

What a fucking arsehole. Please don’t let him put you off something you enjoy x

plominoagain · 07/11/2019 23:35

Ryan Gosling
Julia Roberts
Audrey Hepburn
Ewan Macgregor
George Lucas
Meryl Streep
Whoopi Goldberg
Robin Williams
Sandra Bullock
Scarlet Johansson
David Arquette

Are they all boring and sexless too ? I’d be knitting him a nice long Dr Who scarf with “ This belongs to a massive twatbadger “ worked into it.

I’ll lay money he’s no great source of fascination either. Fool .

RaininSummer · 07/11/2019 23:35

What an irritating toad of a man. I actually think that you have to be pretty clever to knit anything other than basic squares anyway so his theory about only dull tedious women knit is way off. What does he do whilst watching TV then? Is he like my OH, just sitting there gormlessly time wasting?

MyMajesty · 07/11/2019 23:35

I thought it was going to be pole dancing, that you do badly.

Not knitting!

The guy's a jerk with stunningly unattractive, boring hobbies. Sad

dreichwinter · 07/11/2019 23:37

I'd take up knitting pussy hats if I were you.
I'd love to be able to knit socks.
My Yarn obsession drives DH a little bonkers but he has always worn every crocheted item I've made him( even the early crap ones) without ever being anything but positive.
Maybe tell DH you save knitting in the nude for your appreciative lover.

Pieceofpurplesky · 07/11/2019 23:37

Knit him a new wife.
