... to want to scream- husband thinks my hobby is “deeply unattractive”

DimensionalShambler · 07/11/2019 22:52

It’s cold and rainy and all day I was looking forward to starting a new knitting project. After dinner I settled down with my wool and needles and and my husband started with the sighing. After the usual rigmarole I dragged it out of him… seeing me knit is “deeply unattractive”, it’s for sexless, boring, tedious women and he hates seeing my projects laying around because it’s a “stringy depressing mess” and I should find something more interesting to do with my time.

I’m absolutely furious at the sexism and stupidity but also really sad because I love knitting- it’s cozy and peaceful and meditative. But now it’s ruined.

(knitter here) do you remember Noah & Nelly cartoon? I seem to remember Nelly knitting cosies for anything eg the telephone box.

Time for a husband cosy Grin, happy to contribute a square🥢🔴

NearlyGranny · 07/11/2019 23:12

I am so impressed you can knot socks! I've nearly finished a jumper for my DH - he chose the colour and pattern - and he's thrilled and captivated watching it grow.

When I'm knitting he brings cups of tea on demand.

He thinks I'm a genius. I am. And so are you!

BluePheasant · 07/11/2019 23:12

We'll he sounds an absolute joy to live with! Guest room sounds like a very good option, turn it into your own little retreat full of your knitting projects. He can sit on his own if it's so unattractive to look at his wife relaxing in her own home. Is there any particular reason to remain married to this spiteful knobhead?

AutumnRose1 · 07/11/2019 23:12

That voodoo doll looks much happier than I was expecting....not that I have knowledge of voodoo dolls.

I’d like to learn to knit.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 07/11/2019 23:12

I thin these celebrities would disagree with your knob of a husband.

FredaFrogspawn · 07/11/2019 23:12

In your position, I couldn’t touch or go near this man’s penis. Ever again.

lottiegarbanzo · 07/11/2019 23:13

Well, he's given you a catchphrase at least. 'Darling, you do know that's 'deeply unattractive', don't you?'

BadLad · 07/11/2019 23:13

He is being a total twat.

I wonder if any other the posters calling him a dick / twat whatever posted any of the "none - I married an adult" comments on the "How much time does your OH spend playing video games?" thread.

summersherewishiwasnt · 07/11/2019 23:13

Prince Charming alert.
His attitude is less attractive than dog shit ice cream.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 07/11/2019 23:14

I really want to make socks, DPNs confuse me though, don't think I'm coordinated enough to use 4 needles at once Grin

Your DH sounds like he's being a twit.

whiskersonkittenss · 07/11/2019 23:14

I'd love to be able to knit. He's a twat!!

Babdoc · 07/11/2019 23:14

I was trying to guess what your deeply unattractive hobby was before I read your post.
I came up with:
nose picking
crotch scratching
mud wrestling
farting tunes
trying to break the world pie eating record
bog snorkelling
arranging your collection of dog poo.
But I would never have guessed knitting!

NoHummus · 07/11/2019 23:15

What a twat! Knit him a balaclava without any eye or nose holes and make him wear it every evening, OP!

wildcherries · 07/11/2019 23:16

What a spectacular own goal on his part, sexist idiot. Don't give up knitting. And tell him being a condescending twat is deeply unattractive.

byefeliciabye · 07/11/2019 23:16

I wound tell him that he's "deeply unattractive" and it's only fair he puts up with your knitting as you have to put up with him.

NoSquirrels · 07/11/2019 23:16

I was going to tell you to knit him a jumper that says ‘My wife left me because I’m a knob’ but then I saw this, from a PP, which is much better

Knit him a willy warmer for being such a bell-end.

Probably won’t take too long, eh? Wink

plightofthealbatross · 07/11/2019 23:17

What an arse. What's his 'attractive' hobby, sitting on the couch judging others whilst getting fat?

I'd tell him that without seriously grovelling apology, the marriage will indeed be sexless.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 07/11/2019 23:18

Well, clearly he wouldn’t be able to learn how to knit. Knitting is a skilful and useful activity. You can make garments, blankets, shawls, toys- all kinds of things. You could sell your creations or you could knit for charity if you wanted.

What does he do that has those benefits?

DimensionalShambler · 07/11/2019 23:19

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 I promise DPNs are easier than they look. A hat with a chunky yarn is a good project to figure them out!

Latvian mathematician Daina Taimina crocheted objects which illustrate hyperbolic space and now appear in textbooks as the accepted 3D examples. Honestly, it's so cool. www.ttbook.org/interview/crocheting-unknowable-geometry-spacetime

I love knitting. If it wasn't done almost exclusively by women it would be recognised as what it is: engineering. There's a magic to it, a single piece of yarn curled and twisted together with 2 sticks to evenly cover a whole surface. A true post apocalyptic skill. And it keeps your lap warm on winter evenings.

Sod the sexist git.

Gardai · 07/11/2019 23:20

A hobby is something to enjoy and fill time, not something to be appraised on it’s sexiness. Your OH sounds like a bit of a knobber.

DrReed · 07/11/2019 23:21

I’m sexy as fuck and I knit. (Really I’m fat, frumpy and middle aged but my dh says I’m sexy af). Your dh sound like a dick. Sorry

shinynewapple · 07/11/2019 23:21

I think your guest room sounds lovely and cosy - move yourself and your knitting into there permanently!

Cinammoncake · 07/11/2019 23:22

Oh Neome I have asked so many people over the years if they remember Noah and Nellie and nobody ever has! So delighted that you do. I used to love that programme Smile
