Yesterday I took delivery of a new handheld cordless mini vacuum and I couldn’t wait for it to charge up so I could go and Hoover my skirting boards without having to drag the massive big Dyson around the house! I was so excited I was going round the house last night looking for things to Hoover up! My husband called me sad but I was so happy!

I also love buying anything new for the kitchen. I bough a multi bladed herb cutter the other day and oh it gave me such pleasure to use it on some parsley for dinner!

When I was at uni I used to love buying matching stationary which some people might think is a bit sad.

I am a married 33-year-old mother of one and this is my life now Grin

What are your nerdy/sad/uncool things in life that bring you excitement/joy?

GDPR
Mental capacity act
Deprivation of liberty safeguards
Care act
Lots of other stuff relating to elderly parents inc end of life, care packages, CHC assessments, related financial assessments etc
Didn’t wish to but have no choice!

Online gaming - used to play Game of War and Hobbit, Kingdom of Might. Loved going attacking other cities and stealing stuff.

Wildlife spotting. However common, I love seeing wild animals and birds.

Used to be fertility and conception, now it’s heart disease - I have it. I read right into the proper sciencey bits and can read about how a drug affects the heart until my head explodes!

Reading science books at bedtime. Sometimes I overstretch myself and end up reading chapters having not a fucking clue what they’re talking about (eg the quantum physics inside a black hole, how neutrons and synapses work).

Google earth.

I’ve downloaded that weather app linked up thread 🙂👹

I write fanfiction about a children's television show. Don't care that it's nerdy, I adore it!

letsgomaths · 07/11/2019 22:49

Netball. I play and watch it a lot, and am getting into umpiring.

As a kid, I loved any activity involving being blindfolded: guess who was speaking in a funny voice, blind man's buff, identify objects by feel, test your directional hearing by pointing in the direction of somebody clapping, find out which parts of your body have most nerve endings by the "tweezer test": are you being poked with one prong or two? In my view, these things weren't done often enough at school!

Even now, I actually like those blindfold teamwork activities dreaded by many; the trust walk, putting up a tent, and so on. My DH indulges me sometimes by driving me to a mystery destination and leaving me there: I have to walk around and gradually work out where I am. Also he wraps my presents in front of me while I can't see: I enjoy listening and guessing what they might be, especially if he allows me to feel them.

Trilobites. Can’t get enough of them.

FenellaVelour · 07/11/2019 22:57

Fan fiction reading and writing

Yes, yes, I do this too! Mostly video game related with a bit of Star Wars thrown in. Actually led to me publishing an original novel, too.

Bought some ikea 365+ food containers, today, along with one of the silicone lids. Ridiculously excitsled by the suckage on that thing. It fell just short of lifting a small side table.

Left it on that table for DS1 who had the same reaction, eventually sticking it to the French doors.

PickAChew · 07/11/2019 23:03

Oh, and DS1 (autistic) and I bond over pokemon, buses and bad puns.

SkiingIsHeaven · 07/11/2019 23:05

Maths

Bloodless · 07/11/2019 23:05

Coming to the end of something, finishing it & putting it in the bin. Like shampoo, moisturiser, body lotion etc.

I don’t know why but it satisfy me 🙈

Bloodless · 07/11/2019 23:06

Also maths, I love it

veewee · 07/11/2019 23:08

@iCrochetSoIDontKillPeople, you are my person! I love crochet & get quite obsessed with patterns & yarn, (my wardrobe is full of yarn, as well as my yarn draws!) I've decided I need to move on to amigurumi! 😍 (I thought there would be more of us tbh)

riotlady · 07/11/2019 23:10

Filofaxes! I’m not even using one at the moment, I have a traditional paper diary. But I love reading reviews, watching videos of how people set them up, stalking them on eBay.

I also love long and mindless admin tasks. I did data processing at an energy company for a while and I was so efficient. We had a leader board of who processed the most reports and I was too nearly every day. So sad but I bloody loved it! I’m training to work in a health role now and get compliments on the quality and speed of my notes xD

Magpie1976 · 07/11/2019 23:10

My heated dryer. Then the window vac to dry the condensation off the windows🙈

riotlady · 07/11/2019 23:11

Oh and I really love stepping on tree roots when I’m walking through the woods

wonderstuff · 07/11/2019 23:24

Some very strong contenders here. I love a good real life work documentary. Particularly like transport ones, they di a great one on TfL quite recently.

missanony · 07/11/2019 23:28

Getting good clothes drying weather. Laundry chat is apparently my fave Grin

Tillygetsit · 07/11/2019 23:44

Collecting recipes. I have hundreds! I'm also (and this is very weird I know) am obsessed with anything to do with Ted Bundy. He was so charismatic and repulsive in equal measures and his life story is mind boggling.
Quiz shows especially Only Connect. If I get 3 questions per show I'm ecstatic!

MsPepperPotts · 07/11/2019 23:48

Watching a film and then going onto google to research actors that I don't recognise. Or if I watch a documentary that's a few years old I will google the persons to see what happened to them.
Using Sreetview to visit my son's street and house in Australia and the surrounding area as I have never been well enough to travel there.

Upgrading my laptop, replacing the SSD drive and memory.I just bought all the parts online and did it myself after watching videos on YouTube.
In fact if I want to find out how to do something I just search on YouTube and there will always be a video about it.

MsPepperPotts · 07/11/2019 23:52

Oh and I love watching stuff about people in Alaska and Canada
especially how the cope through the winters. Yukon Men, Life Below Zero, The Last Alaskans, Alaska the Last Frontier, Highway through Hell to name a few Halloween Smile

Curious2468 · 07/11/2019 23:58

I’ve discovered my inner geek recently. World of Warcraft, magic the gathering, 3D printing, painting miniatures and board games.

Also get excited by new craft supplies and my pets (guineapigs and hedgehog)

Titsywoo · 08/11/2019 00:01

Working on my allotment. I got so excited earlier this week when I was given a free greenhouse. Best thing that's happened to me this year!

I also love my garden and sewing. I'm only 41 but I'm old at heart Smile

Dislocatedeyeballs · 08/11/2019 00:19
