Inspired by the excellent thread on songs.

Mine is Titanic. Billy Zane is marrying Rose knowing he is used as a money mule to help the family - she then cheats on him, flaunts it, and he is somehow the bad guy. WTAF. If roles were reversed it was be horrendous. Just because Leo was hot doesn’t make it ok 😁

i like most of these films for one reason or another! i would turn off/not watch in the first place the shite like SATC (hate when tv tries to cinema), harry potter (hate precocious child actors mauling some of the greatest books of all time)

Did read that right? "Harry Potter" and "greatest books of all time" in the same sentence? You are taking the piss, aren't you?

1066vegan · 10/11/2019 21:49

@TheSandman I totally agree. The HP books have some interesting ideas, it's brilliant that they have got do many children into reading and I like J K Rowling as a person but they're not particularly well written.

GabsAlot · 10/11/2019 22:30

Ive just thought of one Downsizing such a good premise completely went off kilter

Redcrayons · 10/11/2019 23:14

I don't get how people understand the Potter films when the books are quite complex at times.
There was a big gap between each film so how anyone had a clue without resorting to reading the books I don't know

I think the first couple stand on their own. Once the books became the big phenomenon they just assumed everyone knew the plot already, cut out a lot of explanation and focussed on the spectacle of it all. JK should probably have lopped a couple of chapters for each book as well

wildcherries · 10/11/2019 23:21

THe Lion King remake. Why the lionesses couldn't deal with Scar on their own but ceased to function until irritating little fucker Simba returns is beyond me. Load of misogynistic old pony.

This a million times. Irritating AF.

wildcherries · 10/11/2019 23:24

And A Star is Born is overrated shite. Basically, for me, he was abusive and she was co-dependent. Not great.

FrankenCat · 10/11/2019 23:25

Braveheart.
Mel Gibson's Scottish accent is fucking shite!!!

Giantcatbear · 11/11/2019 10:22

Braveheart. Pisses on history from a great height and yet won FIVE Oscars. Unbelievable.

Giantcatbear · 11/11/2019 10:23

IRL lionesses are the hunters.

Giantcatbear · 11/11/2019 10:25

I guarantee that no one involved in the second SATC film had ever seen Holiday on the Buses, and yet what we basically got was Holiday on the Buses (in Manolos). Amazing.

stupidis · 11/11/2019 10:27

Pretty Woman. Yeah nah

Giantcatbear · 11/11/2019 10:33

A live action version of Rosld Dahls "Very Hungry Crocodile"? Grin

Aglet · 11/11/2019 11:33

Titanic. Totally unrealistic relationship. Wouldn't happen.

wanderings · 11/11/2019 11:42

Bean - the ultimate disaster movie, aptly named. Although I liked most of the individual episodes, I don't like comedy, and that's all farce, and I gave up on it after half an hour. I didn't bother with Mr Bean's holiday.

@SquareAsABlock I know what you mean about villains often having to turn nice by the end, but aren't the baddies in Frozen still bad at the end? Prince Hans, and the Duke of Weselton?

Percivalthebabyspider · 11/11/2019 11:49

Yes to Mrs Doubtfire. I loved it as a kid but watching it recently I was horrified at the way he manipulates his kids ('yes it's me but don't tell anyone') and invades her space and privacy plus tries to bust up her new relationship. Stalkerish and creepy!

formerbabe · 11/11/2019 11:57

Yes definitely agree about Mrs doubtfire. Watching it back as an adult, my sympathies are entirely with the Miranda, the mum.

cheesydoesit · 11/11/2019 12:04

'Crazy, stupid love' for perpetuating the Hollywood trope of 'romantic stalking' and the horrible, creepy son being rewarded with a kiss from his poor babysitter at the end.

17 Again for the blinding hypocrisy in Efron's encouragement of his son dating but his complete disdain of his daughter doing the same. They skewed it a bit by making the daughter's boyfriend a dick and his son's crush beautiful and passive but it was still bullshit and controlling.

cheesydoesit · 11/11/2019 12:04

And yes, Miranda would have definitely been told to LTB.

tillytrotter1 · 11/11/2019 12:55

Titanic, a pointless film seeing that we all knew the ending, it sank!
Any sci-fi or fantasy, always loathed Tolkien since before he became trendy.

Bonnetdedeuce · 11/11/2019 16:15

Opening scene from King Solomon’s mine, the look of indignation on the bull elephants face.

Whatevertrevor19 · 11/11/2019 20:21

The Man in The Iron Mask, really pissed me off that the good Leo wins in the end & the bad Leo gets sent away! I know it's the same person but the bad Leo character is just hotter Grin

TheSandman · 11/11/2019 22:22

Titanic, a pointless film seeing that we all knew the ending, it sank!

Well that's a bollocks argument. No point in ever staging any Shakespeare ever again, folks!

  • I mean we know how Romeo and Juliet ends...

-----------(SPOILER ALERT: They both die.)

TheSandman · 11/11/2019 22:31

oh! oh! actually that reminds me of a film that REALLY pissed me off. The 2013 version of Romeo & Juliet
www.imdb.com/title/tt1645131/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

God it was awful! The script was a barely recognisable paraphrasing and the acting as dull as ditchwater (apart from Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence - who looked as embarrassed as hell but did his best ). I'm no purist - I love the Baz Lurman version - but this was just piss.

moita · 11/11/2019 23:33

Wolf of Wall Street. So sexist and really felt like it was celebrating Leo's character despite what happens to him.

The Hobbit films - so dull.

Totally agree about A Star is Born - he was a horrible jealous drunk but thought it was a great film. Just not a nice love story like I expected

Dixiegirl77 · 11/11/2019 23:35

1 of my fave books is the power of one by Bryce courtney and the film was totally awful! Ripped the story apart and hacked it together, worst I've have ever seen!
