Inspired by the excellent thread on songs.

Mine is Titanic. Billy Zane is marrying Rose knowing he is used as a money mule to help the family - she then cheats on him, flaunts it, and he is somehow the bad guy. WTAF. If roles were reversed it was be horrendous. Just because Leo was hot doesn’t make it ok 😁

I liked the greatest showman as it was pure escapism. I know that Barnum wasnt great in real life etc, but I thought some of the characters were empowered by his positivity and ( I like to think) he did help them rather than exploit their differences. At least they were able to earn a living of sorts. I could be wrong , but that's what I got from the story. I'm usually a cynic too. I saw the stage show in London as a kid and that was good but I was young and didn't know the back story at all and it was different to this film.

The Only thing that grated was that the songs seemed too modern for the times it was set in.

kierenthecommunity · 07/11/2019 21:13

And on the old theme, the fact everyone in Grease is about thirty when they’re supposed to give high school seniors

Pinkbonbon · 07/11/2019 21:13

Agree about saving private Ryan, what a snore fest that one was.

Iron man. Just...awful. Couldn't finish Deadpool either.

kierenthecommunity · 07/11/2019 21:13

Be not give. Fooking autocorrect 🙄

Snoozysnoozy · 07/11/2019 21:17

@CoolCarrie it is based the Niland brothers. But they didn't "move heaven and earth"

The Padre found him. He got sent home. The end.

There was no section of soldiers that tabbed all over France getting killed one by one just to save one man.

alibongo5 · 07/11/2019 21:28

@CoolCarrie Saving Private Ryan is based on a true story, so yes the US army DID move heaven and earth to save one man alibongo5

It is based on a true story in as much as there was a "lone surviving son" policy in the US and the last remaining son did not have to serve but the army would not have actively searched for him by sending a platoon to locate him. And they didn't in the case it was based on.

feellikeanalien · 07/11/2019 21:31

Eyes Wide Shut. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were so unconvincing. The whole film was just icky and dire.

Emmak789 · 07/11/2019 21:36

Saving Private Ryan - I hate army films at the best of times but this films is soooooo mundane! I feel like watching the chancellor's budget would be fun in comparison

GabsAlot · 07/11/2019 21:39

Oh i love the farellys i must be a bit immature-i suppose it is a bit marmite

manicmij · 07/11/2019 21:40

If I had to get into a rant about the plots, realism or lack of in films I'd never watch any ever again.

GabsAlot · 07/11/2019 21:41

Oh yes controeverisal i dont like sean connery films-hes blagged his way through with the same acting for 50 years and i dont know how

misspiggy19 · 07/11/2019 21:48

Step brothers- genuinely found this crap and not funny.

The Hangover- overrated

ScruffGin · 07/11/2019 21:51

@Mothership4two
The Lobster - weird pointless tosh that thinks it is a lot cleverer than it actually is. Makes no sense. Film for posers.

I saw that whilst very pregnant, the bit where the dog died made me cry for about 3 hours and refuse to watch the rest of it, awful film!

Definitely saving private Ryan, so boring.
Never understood Forrest gump either, hated it!

And how had no one mentioned Evita yet? The only film I've ever walked out of the cinema during, it was awful!

Deyes999 · 07/11/2019 21:53

Top gun...the woman in it is the totally wrong casting imo, she is just not quite pretty enough...

GabsAlot · 07/11/2019 21:57

She was too old back then deyes dont look her up now you might get a shock

FizzyIce · 07/11/2019 21:59

Oh I was just reminded about Mother!
What a pile of donkey shit that was!
Can’t believe I sat through all that waiting for something huge to happen and then .. nowt.
Absolute steaming dung heap of a film

Devora13 · 07/11/2019 22:02

Deyes999 that is a really weird comment and a bit of a non reason to dislike a movie. At least Rita (Educating Rita) had some considered thought with 'I'd put it on the radio.'

Devora13 · 07/11/2019 22:12

Last year in the lead up to Halloween I watched all the horror movies and found them pretty disappointing.
The Other Side of the Door had promise but kind of fizzled out; obviously mother is going to be sucked in to wanting to see her son, but then what? Does she get to see him or is it all just a demonic con?
On the other hand, I found The Entity quite scary because you couldn't see anything (though you saw the effects).
The Exorcist...the head spinning has me in stitches every time.

Sandals19 · 07/11/2019 22:12

Cher looked like she was in drag

Cher always looks like she's in drag.

She's looked like she's in drag since, I dunno, the 80s (?) Maybe even the 70's.

Sandals19 · 07/11/2019 22:14

@Devora13

Try Wolf Creek.

I didn't sleep all night because of it.

Sandals19 · 07/11/2019 22:16

Alexander (with Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie etc.).

Just smh.

Eerika · 07/11/2019 22:41

Any book adaptation that strays from written word.

Grease is a classic.

Mrsfrumble · 07/11/2019 23:01

Kelly McGillis is 5 years older than Tom Cruise. Given that her character was his character’s instructor, that’s a realistic age gap, not “too old”. Unfortunately we’re so used to seeing male actors being paired with female counterparts who are 15-25 younger than they are, our perspectives are messed up (see my grumble about Oblivion many pages ago).

Mrsfrumble · 07/11/2019 23:06

Alexander (mentioned a few posters ago) had Angelina Jolie playing Colin Farrell’s mum. His mum FFS! She’s less than a year older than him in real life. Apparently in Hollywood women age in dog years Hmm

Pliudev · 07/11/2019 23:12

L as Miserables. They showed it in our village hall and it was noted that we crept out when they had an interval. I know a lot of people love it but I found it horribly sentimental.
