Not an AIBU, but...
New brands and dates added. Good luck!

Wow. This is why there was not a single pot of hummus in the whole of Asda yesterday I guess?

Crunchymum · 04/11/2019 22:01

Thank you.

Sorry we are big hummus fans and the baby eats a shit load so I was a bit worried (it's ok, we don't have one that is listed!!)

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 04/11/2019 22:02

Yeah. It's been going on for few days, but they added a loads today.

I know hummus is generally loved by MANY so thought warning might be good idea.

I've eaten nearly an entire pot of one of the ones on the list...no salmonella yet. Was hoping for an easy little weight loss

ManonBlackbeak · 04/11/2019 22:07

Christ, the Aldi one I eat all the time! Not had any for over a week though luckily. I wonder whats caused the outbreak? And why its so widespread?

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/11/2019 22:08

It’s so easy to make! Tin of chickpeas costs pennies and you make more than you get in a bought pot.

Secretbadlife · 04/11/2019 22:11

Thank you. Really appreciate that info. We usually buy it.

Skittlesandbeer · 04/11/2019 22:14

I agree if this scare causes folks to try making it themselves for the first time- that’s quite a silver lining. So much tastier, cheaper and healthier.

Even more so if you soak dried chickpeas for it, although it involves planning ahead a bit, compared to tinned.

Once you’re hooked, check out the little cookbook ‘Hummus where the heart is’. Cheesy title, but very interesting variations to try. My DD (9) makes it herself now, she adds a teaspoon of tomato paste to ‘make it pink’.

FlamingoAndJohn · 04/11/2019 22:15

Thank you for posting, op. My brand isn’t on the list.

It just goes to show how many own brand products are all made in the same factory.

BuildBuildings · 04/11/2019 22:17

Just shared this with my family. I'm not a big fan but they all love it. My sister just had a baby so salmonella would be horrific.

NoSauce · 04/11/2019 22:17

Thanks for posting this OP.

Aderyn19 · 04/11/2019 22:17

I wondered where all the hummus was in Aldi today. They only had the 150g pots of Moroccan with apricots and 150g of red pepper. I think those are okay since I started on the apricot one before I read this thread and I feel fine!

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/11/2019 22:19

When there was a shortage last year I remember them saying all hummus in England comes from just one factory Shock

Passthecherrycoke · 04/11/2019 22:19

It doesn’t last long freshly made though does it? We’d never get through it

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 04/11/2019 22:21

Don't mention it, hummus lovers.

I wonder whats caused the outbreak? And why its so widespread?

It's all made in Zorba factory.

Kudos to them though for reporting and not just waiting if there indeed is salmonella in all or not. Apparently it came in with some ingredients

I sae this last week, like others our local ASDA has no humus at all. We eta it all the time, occasionally make it. I definitely had one from that list and coincidence or not I've just had a weekend of v&d, nasty stuff. Am now back to making my own just in case but can't get it right.

TroysMammy · 04/11/2019 22:22

I've made hummus and frozen it in little pots. I just drizzle some olive oil on top then freeze it. When defrosted just stir the oil in (the recipe I use doesn't have oil in it).

IceniSky · 04/11/2019 22:22

I spent 8 days with bad stomach cramps, mild diarrhoea and nausea over last week. No idea if because of a Morrisons one on that list or something unrelated.

strongswans · 04/11/2019 22:23

Sorry for the spelling, still not quite right! Saw not sae and eat not eta.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 04/11/2019 22:24

@Aderyn19 they are on a list.

Basically absolute majority of hummus in UK shops, INCLUDING wholesalers comes from that factory.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 04/11/2019 22:26

@IceniSky 😮 there is no such thing as a coincidence...

OP posts:
IceniSky · 04/11/2019 22:28

I did fill out an 'illness questionnaire' for Morrisons.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 04/11/2019 22:28

@IceniSky so that's how it started😂

Hope you are feeling better now
