To ask what things that pre children you would have seen as essential have now become a luxury?

Last night on my way home from work i popped into next and treated myself to £88 worth of pyjamas / slippers / dressing gown. I am sick of being freezing and looking like a bag lady when at home. Pre children i would not have thought twice about this but for some reason now it feels like a luxury.

Non stained, matching pjs without holes have become a luxury.

AIBU to a) treat myself and b) ask what things pre children you wouldn't bat an eye about getting / doing have now become a luxury?

Yes! I got a new pjama jumper for my birthday and in my head thought that in the past I would have just bought one for myself!

Things I miss- haircuts, gym membership, getting my eyebrows sorted, new shoes, new clothes, perfume, takeaways, new socks (needed for ages but just dont have time or effort to go out and get some), nice duvet sets rather than ikeas cheapest!

There are probably lots more but that's today's lis!

Sitting by myself on the sofa with a cuppa.
Not being climbed on.
Having a poo uninterrupted.

I actually buy nicer clothes now than I did pre-DC as I think it compensates for how knackered and cross I look!

Morgan12 · 01/11/2019 08:05

Being able to go back to bed when I don't feel well. It's not fair!!!!!

Magpiefeather · 01/11/2019 08:06

New clothes, shoes, make up. I just make do now!

Magicpaintbrush · 01/11/2019 08:13

Clothes. This year is the first time in over 10 years since having DD that I had enough spare cash to go on a shopping spree, it was amazing because having been so frugal up til now I forgot how lovely it feels to buy something because you want it instead of walking past the shop window thinking 'oh well'. First world problems though, it's all relative.

Babybel90 · 01/11/2019 08:17

Lunch out at work, now I take a packed lunch which saves a fortune but I hate making it and sometimes I just fancy choosing a fancy sandwich.

bellsbuss · 01/11/2019 08:18

Going to the toilet by myself.

ChileConCarne · 01/11/2019 08:18

Surely spending £88 on Pjs is just down to how much money you have. Someone might not have kids but be broke so wouldn’t spend that.

Uponreflection · 01/11/2019 08:19

Books!

RobinsNest17 · 01/11/2019 08:19

Skincare regime, make up and of course sleep.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 01/11/2019 08:20

Spending a whole day under a duvet on the sofa watching films with DH because I'm ill or hungover. Buying nice things for the house, expensive crockery etc, now it's things that don't get smashed when thrown

Time. Sleep. Being alone. And mine are grown up.

EmeraldShamrock · 01/11/2019 08:22

Everything. Grin
I am planning on getting new trainers the past 6 weeks and each week it seems like such a luxury when other things pop up.
I am buying them next week.

Money wise, pre kids if I fancied a frivolous treat I'd maybe try a new mascara or facecream.
These days, if I've got a spare couple of quid I'm more likely to get DS a lego minifigure he's after, you're mind automatically thinks of treating your children first I suppose.
I do still buy myself books and I tend to buy far less clothes, household items now but that are better quality and will last.

Silence. Mental peace. The constant low level noise gives me continuous head fuzz

CallarMorvern · 01/11/2019 08:27

Books - actually bought a hardback on release date last month, I felt very extravagant. My books are usually free from the recycling centre. Haircuts, I've always DIY coloured, but I've been cutting my own for years now. I really, really want gym membership, but can't afford it because of the cost of DD's extra curricular stuff.

CombineBananaFister · 01/11/2019 08:27

*Your mind

Loopytiles · 01/11/2019 08:27

Blow drying my hair, because I now have a much longer commute and worry about waking up the DC.
