To ask why everyone hates Corbyn?

I’d genuinely like to see some facts and reasons as to why Corbyn is so awful that people would choose voting Tory (and people dying) over him.

Genuine reasons that are factual ... I’m wondering what information I seem to be missing that everyone else is seeing?

I dislike him for a lot of reasons the Daily Mail do. Mainly that the character of being a rebel who consistently votes against your own party is charming and endearing in an MP but when he becomes a dictatorial leader it's tiresome.

At the start of his leadership - those times of wearing an anorak etc were important. It's very hard to shake off that disheveled image. Hes been in charge so long now that those hardly seem relevant any more but it set the tone. Anyone who said they'd like to see their PM actually sing the National Anthem was dismissed as being a dinosaur and those who thought an anorak looked a shower of shit were snobs.

Mainly, more than anything, I dislike the Momentum movement, who have heralded him as his leader. The often spoken great rise of the Labour party membership were really those far flung to the left. It's great that they have a political home now but it came at a cost of the moderate socialists who want sensible, practical policies in place and want a Labour government. They're kicking the party and a toxic leadership and entrenched unpleasantness is a ground for hatefulness like anti-semitism. The hard left policies ARE absolutely stopping the general public voting Labour because they dont trust Labour with the economy.

An election is fought on whether Labour can be trusted with the economy, or whether the Tories can be trusted with the NHS.

And if he could stop sounding so fucking sneering and cross every time a reporter interviews him that would be a great fucking start.

If Jews tell me it's anti-Semitism, I'll believe them. I reckon they've had enough practice spotting it

there are plenty of Jewish people who do not think he is antisemitic. I could find plenty of examples. Generally speaking when I ask for examples I get examples of him being anti- israel's oppression of the palestinians This is not the same things and it's insulting to Jewish people to suggest they are.

Inebriati · 31/10/2019 23:49

''What's the deal with with Jeremy Corbyn? For those who haven't followed the story, here's why so many people, and especially Jews, are concerned about the man who presided over the Labour antisemitism crisis.''

23/ In 2018, it's revealed that Corbyn had been a member and participant in Palestine Live, a secret Facebook group founded, administered, and heavily populated by well-known conspiracists and antisemites. The group—surprise!—trafficked heavily in antisemitic conspiracy theories.

24/ That year, Corbyn informed major British Jewish organizations that he rejects endorsing the widely adopted International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism in full. Eventually, Labour defied Corbyn by adopting the full definition.

''In April, leaked documents showed that Labour's investigation into antisemitism had been hindered by delay, inaction, and interference by Corbyn's office, contradicting earlier denials by Corbyn about his involvment in the investigations. ''

''34b/ The documents showed a failure to take action against Labour members who had praised Hitler and spread anti-Jewish conspiracy theories.''

Half my Jewish friends and family including my family who actually live in Israel are anti the Israeli government

This is why I struggle because I can't find any evidence of him being racist. Just political opinions.

Itshouldneverhavehappened · 31/10/2019 23:52

Because he’s an idiot if he thinks the British public are so gullible:
He’s already started opening the free for all sweetie shop - additional free childcare for under 5s, £10 min wage (forget about businesses who can’t afford it), student fees, free prescriptions. The list goes on and on and on ..... and we’re only on day 1 of campaigning.
I think Labour must have a think tank whose job is to come up with various groups in society and what freebies they can chuck their way to persuade them to vote Labour. None of it is properly costed - just a vague ‘we’re going to tax the nasty idle rich’.
They keep banging on about nationalisation and when asked how they’ll fund it, throw back the answer ‘it’s an asset, it’ll go on the balance sheet’ - conveniently forgetting to mention that assets still have to be paid for.
Corbyn is all wind and promises and no substance.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 31/10/2019 23:52

Yes it is racism. There is no debate to be had here, no mitigating circumstances. Corbyn was referring to 3 specific British Jewish men in the same room, men whose names he knew, and he absolutely did mean Jew. He couldn't even say their names but decided to smear a whole race of people instead. Substitute any other racial or religious group for 'Zionist' and the racism wouldn't even be questioned. But for some weird reason anti-Jew racism gets a free pass from some.

Stuckinarut81 · 31/10/2019 23:53

People hate him because he’s been subject to a smear campaign from the start.

The wave of hope from younger voters, who up until JC was elected as labour leader had been disenfranchised with politics, was amazing. I was standing in the crowd when he was on stage at Glastonbury and it was an electric atmosphere.

Personally I love him. He doesn’t resort to personal attacks, he has integrity and everything he says makes perfect bloody sense.

That said, I think the chances of him being elected are slim. He’s done a fantastic job of moving the party to the left, and now he should realise that Labour’s best chances are without him at the helm. Keir Starmer would be a good bet.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 31/10/2019 23:53

The vast majority of British Jews consider Corbyn an anti-Semite. Even some former Labour MPs (Luciana Berger). Even some left-wing Jewish columnists (Jonathan Freedland).

Plus, some of the crap that has gone down is blatant. That whole fuss about the mural, for example.

Sunshine93 · 01/11/2019 00:00

@Inebriati

Thanks for your links. I had a look at them and agree wholeheartedly that they are racists items (the mural and the book) I do also feel as convinced as I can be that he was just ignorant and he has apologised for liking the mural. I can honestly say that I wouldnt have seen that mural and instantly thought of Jewish people because I have never encountered anti-Semitism so I am naive. Is it not possible that it's true in his case?

I am going to go away and read a bit more about it. I still think that there's a conflation between anti semitism and anti Israel but I will read more.

I think Jeremy Corbyn is really charismatic, until he opens his mouth. His tag line 'everyone wins' is just naive. Someone will lose, just not the someone he cares about. He sounds like he's spending every pound three times. He talks about the NHS like it's one big family organisation that can be saved. I love the NHS, I work for the NHS, but it's already fragmented, with spending power decided by CCGs, etc. There is no magic 'NHS budget' that can be fixed. It's departmental budgets and regional funding and by taking from one group, you create funds for another.

There are so many (societal) issues that are complex and throwing a bit of money at them in the short term is not going to fix them.

But for some weird reason anti-Jew racism gets a free pass from some.

I think a lot of racism is excused far too easily for example watermelon smiles and letterboxes. I would never want to excuse racism. I also refuse to blindly believe smears. Johnson seems to be getting a free pass to say and do what he wants.

Corbyn was referring to 3 specific British Jewish men. Were they Zionists? Are you sure they were the only men he was referring to? The guardian article is unclear.

The vast majority of British Jews consider Corbyn an anti-Semite that isn't my experience. I know lots of Jewish people who don't.

Lumene · 01/11/2019 00:15

People hate him because he’s been subject to a smear campaign from the start.
thank Any actual examples?

he has integrity

Why has he promised to talk to feminists like Linda bellos then not actually talked to them? Integrity would be either saying I won’t talk to them (and not doing so) or following through.

TowelNumber42 · 01/11/2019 00:16

You asked I’m wondering what information I seem to be missing that everyone else is seeing? The trick is to open your eyes. Looking with your eyes closed means you don't see it.

Paintedmaypole · 01/11/2019 00:17

Thank you for the links in answer to my question which I will read tomorrow.

Sunshine93 · 01/11/2019 00:20

have engaged in exploiting nasty historical antisemetic stereotypes yourself in order to undermine and minimise the opinions and statements of actual Jewish posters

WTAF Please quote if you are going to accuse me of that!

DarkDarkNight · 01/11/2019 00:21

He's a bit scruffy and the daily mail told me he's dangerous so I'm going to vote for a party who will destroy the nhs, crash us out of the EU to benefit a few hedge fund managers and who have made our country a global laughing stock

Got it in one. I’m amazed how easily people can be swayed by a clearly biased media. It is shameful how the Media has treated him. He has been demonised for being an ordinary decent Man, laughed at for living in a fairly normal house, having an allotment, using public transport. It is bizarre.

I’ve got my head in my hands at people just repeating the same shit about the IRA. He condemned all violence from both sides. For obvious political reasons he has been asked to condemn IRA violence specifically. Can anybody post a quote from a verified source where Corbyn has said he supports IRA terrorismin any way, shape or form?

I’m in despair that people actually think Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg or anybody on the Tory front bench have anybody’s best interests at heart except their own and that of their Millionaire friends.

Also I have absolutely not ignored but have said I will read more about it @joyfullittlehippo why such anger directed at me for asking questions?

Sunshine93 · 01/11/2019 00:23

I was responding to someone who said the vast majority of Jews think... Just as I can't possibly know what the vast majority of Jews think, neither can they.

Sunshine93 · 01/11/2019 00:24

Please could you quote where I engaged in employing nasty historical anti-Semitic stereotypes.
