I find Gina Miller fascinating. Thanks to this thread -- I'll follow her on Twitter. I don't know how her life compares to other 'privileged' folk. I mean, The Camerons slept on the hospital floor next to Ivan & Nigella Lawson faced DV. Heck even Lady Di cleaned random baby bottoms. I'm not sure many of the so-called privilege can all tick these boxes, though:

Worked as a chamber maid to pay her parents' bills
Violent attack in the street (racist motives, from Asians & fellow students who mistook her for a bad type of Asian -- why she quit law school first time)
Married her teenage sweetheart (later divorced)
Brain damaged child who has complicated SN
Took jobs distributing leaflets, at Pizza Express, and modelling.
Victim of domestic violence (from now ex spouse, who later stood as candidate for EDL)
Lived homeless with her child in cars & on people's floors for a while after fleeing violent husband.
Is domiciled in UK so can pay her taxes here.

Miller seems to have had a range of ordinary life crap to deal with there. Is being very villified a sign of being "VERY 'privileged", maybe?

HeresMe · 03/11/2019 20:12

Stop telling people how to vote, when you have your own fortune at stake 40 million is it.

She really needs to shut up.

stophuggingme · 03/11/2019 20:13

If there were more Gina Millers we wouldn’t be in thisshit right now.
“Led” by a feckless, lying, adulterous, child denying, figure rigging, credit taking chump and his commie linkers need investigating lunatic “adviser”

I hope the Brexit Larty hammer the Tory vote and it pens the door for Labour.

stophuggingme · 03/11/2019 20:14

Some of the vitriol aimed at a woman who has had the nouse to call a spade a spade is extraordinary.

HeresMe · 03/11/2019 20:19

Why it's not vitriol she's a self important pompous person.

Her opinion is the right way apparently.

Lifecraft · 03/11/2019 20:26

An arrogant, do as I say, woman

Yeah...the way she goes around saying "don't break the law". How unreasonable. Hmm

Lifecraft · 03/11/2019 20:27

I just want to welcome Gina Miller to the website aka Lifecraft.

And welcome to you too Katie Hokpins, aka @HeresMe

Looking forward to voting tactically. The tactical voting option in my constituency is absolutely clear and even though it’s not how my heart would vote, I’m more than prepared to vote with my head. The toxic Tories need to be out of power. The last 9 years have been an unmitigated shit show.

Lifecraft · 03/11/2019 20:33

Stop telling people how to vote

Oh ffs. She's set up a page for people who want to keep the Tories out at all costs, and might wish to vote tactically to achieve that. She's not telling anyone who doesn't want to know, how to vote. If people aren't interested, don't look at the website, it's not for you.

I'm sure there's a website out there with Inverness bus times on it. Do you here the people of Cornwall say "stop telling us the Inverness bus times"?

Probably not, because the people of Cornwall aren't interested, so aren't looking at the website.

Sligh · 03/11/2019 20:34

So, Theresa May tries to keep Parliament from having any say on her deal but that's not arrogant. Gina Miller takes her to court to ensure Parliament does get to review the deal, wins and, according to some on this site, is arrogant. I guess trying to protect our Parliamentary democracy is an indication of arrogance. Who knew?

CactusAndCacti · 03/11/2019 20:35

Our local Tory MP is campaigning on the 'Get Brexit Done' I pointed that that really isn't the truth and is just the start of things. Feel like I am just pissing in the wind though.

I do feel torn as actually he has done a lot for the area, but he is just hell bent on Brexit.

The local labour MP is very quiet, a remainer in a leave area (I think)

TheFaerieQueene · 03/11/2019 20:36

To all the just want to get it done brigade. Do you realise that it is going to take many many years to untangle all of the legal agreements, treaties and trade rules that we currently work with. Brexit day is just the beginning, not the end.
We have a brilliant trade deal with our nearest and biggest market. To walk away is madness. The only reason this shit storm has happened is because the super rich don’t like the EU tax rules coming into law.

Jenniferturkington · 03/11/2019 20:39

Hate the idea of tactical voting and currently trying to convince dh why. He wants to ‘tactically’ vote Lib Dem. I’ve just shown him Jo Swinson’s voting record (cuts to disabled benefits, against tax rise for those earning above 150k, for fracking, for cuts to local councils etc etc) and asked him how can he vote for a party with such different fundamental beliefs to himself.
Vote for who you most believe in.

chomalungma · 03/11/2019 20:42

I am really looking forward to the Conservative and Brexit candidates coming to try to get my vote. I live in an area that I suspect is Leave, although the constituency voted Remain. I have lots of things I want to discuss and am looking forward to hearing their reply.

Dapplegrey · 03/11/2019 20:42

All the people gleefully saying they would get arrested if they wrote what they would like to do to GM - absolutely vile. Do people not realise what they are saying?
Haven’t you read some of the things written on here about Boris and Jacob Rees Mogg? Maybe you think it’s acceptable if about Tories.

chomalungma · 03/11/2019 20:43

Vote for who you most believe in

That would be great if we had a fair voting system.

Sometimes you have to vote for 2nd best in order to stop someone else getting in.

HeresMe · 03/11/2019 21:17

How do you know they won't get in that's the question, I'm sure there are surprises with voting.

chomalungma · 03/11/2019 22:01

How do you know they won't get in that's the question, I'm sure there are surprises with voting

I suppose you have to know your constituency.

It is a bit self fulfilling though - people tactically vote because they know that e.g. Labour don't usually get many votes so if they are Labour, they switch votes...and therefore Labour don't get many votes.

Oliversmumsarmy · 04/11/2019 01:45

Lifecraft

I actually think the website is a bit flawed as it says that for my postcode it is between Conservative and Labour which was a bit of a surprise.

Labour were in when we moved here 20 years ago but were soon voted out and it has swung from conservatives to Lib Dem’s and back again ever since
Voting labour would not impact on the Lib Dem Conservative vote.
I think Labour regularly lose their deposit.

Evilspiritgin · 04/11/2019 01:53

Christ , imagine the fucking horror of waking up and finding out dianne abbot and john McDonnell are going to be running the country 🙊🙈🙉

curlykaren · 04/11/2019 02:31

The News Group Newspapers lost over £64 million pounds over their last year of trading. This means that they don't, in fact, SELL news but instead are BUYING influence. But sure, lets worry about Gina Miller!? So many of you are wilfully looking in the wrong direction.

chomalungma · 04/11/2019 06:58

magine the fucking horror of waking up and finding out dianne abbot and john McDonnell are going to be running the country

Meanwhile, we have Boris Johnson as Prime Minister and running the country.....and if someone like him can do it, there's hope for anyone.

ethelfleda · 04/11/2019 07:35

Cheers OP. I was looking for this the other day.

To the idiots bleating on about ‘getting Brexit over with’ - leaving is just the beginning...
It won’t be over with for a good few years yet!

Oliversmumsarmy · 04/11/2019 08:25

I think that those that saying they want it over just want the negotiations to start. Whilst they might take a good few years if we had left when we were supposed to I suppose they are of the mind we would be 7 months in rather than still in the same position as we were 3 years ago and still facing a long negotiation process we haven’t even begun

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/11/2019 09:01

I voted tactically in the last election to successfully remove my brexit supporting Tory MP from our marginal seat. I’ll be doing it again to keep them out. I’d like to vote libdem but I will be voting for whoever is going to defeat the Conservative - labour again probably.
