Jeremy Corbyn

I see so many posters saying they won’t vote for Labour as they don’t like Jeremy Corbyn - why? If the Labour policies are good then why not vote for those rather than the leader?

OP posts:

I will be voting Labour. There’s a lot I don’t like about Corbyn but I feel it’s the only way to stop Brexit.

autumn2203 · 05/11/2019 08:55

None of our family will be voting for labour this time, despite an unblemished record of doing so for generations.

Labour are now not the middle ground party they once were, and are now driving such hard left policies on homes, schools, privatisation. I don't think we can possibly risk it. Most of our friends will not be voting labour either, they are all worried about the same thing, the economy crashing.

BertrandRussell · 05/11/2019 08:58

I may be opening a can of worms here- but I would be interested in hearing people’s views on The Conservative Friends of Israel and their funding of the Tory Party and their power as a lobby group.

Dissimilitude · 05/11/2019 09:00

Corbyn has shown himself to be partisan, indecisive, indifferent to the effect his anti-Semitic pals have on British Jews, unintelligent, ideological to a fault, closed minded, a poor speaker, a poor debater and easily led around by his advisors.

Labour could and should do so much better. Not good enough to say the policies are what you vote for - this man would wield considerable executive power as PM

EntropyRising · 05/11/2019 09:01

I'm a Conservative voter but I object very much to Friends of Israel.

BertrandRussell · 05/11/2019 09:02

“ they must address the fact that they like to hold Israel to a much higher standard than a lot of its absolutely bonkers neighbours.“

I think the Left probably does hold Israel to higher standards- I have theories as to why which I am happy to pontificate on if anyone’s interested. But I think the Right holds it to much lower standards.....

OhMyDarling · 05/11/2019 09:06

I’ll be voting tactically as Labour won’t win in my constituency... but I’d vote for ANYONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE to keep the twatty tories out.

But I think Corbyn is alright, I don’t really get why people wouldn’t like him in the face of such vile competition.

EntropyRising · 05/11/2019 09:07

I agree with you, and I'm reasonably certain that I share your theories.

GlitchStitch · 05/11/2019 09:08

It isn't just holding to a higher standard though, it's actively praising Iran as some kind of beacon of wonderful values at the same time as hating Israel. The only logical explanation (when you look at Corbyn's history and associations) is because Israel is a Jewish state.

autumn2203 · 05/11/2019 09:10

I don't think Jeremy is very well either, I am struggling to know who to vote for. I think I am politically homeless.

GlitchStitch · 05/11/2019 09:15

I'm politically homeless too. I've voted Labour in every election in 20+ years I've been eligible to vote. I can't stand Corbyn, my current local (labour) MP is a misogynist who repeats TWAW and called women bigots for wanting all women shortlists female. The Tory challenger is a woman who does quite a bit locally for women's issues/ DV etc and seems like a nice person. I want my MP out, I know that much.

Seahorseshoe · 05/11/2019 09:15

He's anti Semitic for a start, when Theresa May's deal was rejected (she was a terrible pm), she asked for urgent, cross party talks - he immediately said "no" but changed his mind quick sharpish when he realised that showed his true colours, he's indecisive, sits on the fence, won't show his hand. Brexit is a massive party fight for him. I fear he'll make it easier for those who don't work, not to work and be bad for small businesses. Don't try and build yourself up if Corbyn, god forbids, gets in, success is frowned upon and will be punished.

Oh, apart from the above, he comes across as a thoroughly unpleasant man.

EntropyRising · 05/11/2019 09:16

It isn't just holding to a higher standard though, it's actively praising Iran as some kind of beacon of wonderful values at the same time as hating Israel.

The problem with taking such a hard line on Iran is that firstly, it feels a bit like an Israeli proxy battle, and secondly, we do no such thing with the biggest bully in the region - Saudi Arabia.

There are a lot of scary people with nukes. Trump, for example.

GlitchStitch · 05/11/2019 09:19

You can be neutral on Iran. You don't need to actively attend a celebration of the anniversary of their revolution and call them wonderful. Completely agree on Saudi Arabia btw.

EntropyRising · 05/11/2019 09:21

I wasn't aware that Corbyn did this. He's mostly a complete nutter and has no balance where the underdog is concerned.

samG76 · 05/11/2019 09:22

Entropy - when you object to Friends of Israel, you do realise that there are parliamentary "Friends of" almost every country. I wonder why you object only to Israel....?

TulipsTulipsTulips · 05/11/2019 09:23

What do Corbyn supporters think of the fact that he invited IRA supporters into Parliament shortly two weeks after the Brighton bombing?

GlitchStitch · 05/11/2019 09:25

Yes he did in 2014. I agree he has no balance, I'd say Iran are anti America/ the west so that's good enough for Corbyn. I agree he is incapable of balance.

I genuinely don't know what to do in this election. When I object to Corbyn I get told I'm not voting for Corbyn but my local MP. Then when I say my preferred local candidate is Tory I get told that's a vote for Boris!

BertrandRussell · 05/11/2019 09:26

“ you do realise that there are parliamentary "Friends of" almost every country. I wonder why you object only to Israel....?”
As far as I know, there isn’t another group with so many members and the same level of donation. Happy to be corrected on this.

Xenia · 05/11/2019 09:27

It's labour's plans for confiscation of assets etc which are most worrying as they damage confidence in the UK/ Eg if tenants can buy their homes at a discunt - sounds find of course but the landlord might be someone who only owns that property and rents in another city as they hand to move for work and the discounted price probably means taking away all they have as the property is likely to have a huge mortgage on it which I bet the state is not proposing to pay off.

Then in public and naming a man who took himself from a council estae with nothing to become wealthy as public enemy number 1 is pretty below the belt for a leader who says he will not make things personal. It also sends out a very clear messag e- don't get above your station, stay in the council houe, stay in poverty as doing better is a mortal sin and we hate those people who pay a lot of tax - we would rather everyone were equally poor as each other.

Then the plan to take 10% of big companies away - steal it - and give emploeyes £500 each only and the rest is locked away owned by some dubious trust. That is 10% iof the investment your local authority pension we are talking about as many investors in these big companies are those citizens with a work pension.

CendrillonSings · 05/11/2019 09:31

It is extraordinary what Johnson can get away with. Every time something happens I think “Surely he has to go now” but nope. He’s still there.

I think exactly the same thing about Corbyn. He can support every nefarious group and every bonkers ideology on the planet, and his cult just says “I don’t see the problem” and “But the evil Toriiiiiies!”. Unbelievable!

GlitchStitch · 05/11/2019 09:39

Now now Cendrillion it's not Corbyn's fault he's accidentally, repeatedly, in the company of anti-Semites and terrorists. Apparently he is unaware of their true nature when he praises them, attends their meetings for a decade and writes gushing forwards for their books. Poor chap has bad luck, getting duped so often.

CendrillonSings · 05/11/2019 09:41

Maybe someone could let him know about Specsavers? Grin

BertrandRussell · 05/11/2019 09:42

OK, fair enough- we’re not having a proper conversation any more. I thought we were. What a shame.

FishCanFly · 05/11/2019 09:42

I fear he'll make it easier for those who don't work, not to work and be bad for small businesses. Don't try and build yourself up if Corbyn, god forbids, gets in, success is frowned upon and will be punished.
like if tories made it easier for people who actually work or want to work Hmm

The only logical explanation (when you look at Corbyn's history and associations) is because Israel is a Jewish state.
No, because they declare themselves morally superior and we send them aid. Other genocidal regimes, like China or Burma, they don't hide who they are and don't cry discrimination when called out.
