Jeremy Corbyn

I see so many posters saying they won’t vote for Labour as they don’t like Jeremy Corbyn - why? If the Labour policies are good then why not vote for those rather than the leader?

Since when has the concept of free prescriptions and free university education been ridiculous?

CendrillonSings · 04/11/2019 13:28

BertrandRussell

Great C&P skills! Any original thoughts?

Considering that you're always asking for evidence of Corbyn's links to extremist groups, you should be pleased that your wish has been fulfilled in such abundance!

Perhaps you could even have some original thoughts of your own about why you are prepared to offer unwavering support to such a man?

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2019 13:32

“ Perhaps you could even have some original thoughts of your own about why you are prepared to offer unwavering support to such a man?”
I’m not. I think he’s a disastrous leader. I am, however, committed to left of centre politics, and I object very strongly to ad hominems about Corbyn being used as an attempt to discredit left wing politics in general. Particularly wildly inaccurate ad hominems.

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2019 13:33

I also object to unattributed quotations.

DowntownAbby · 04/11/2019 13:33

I wouldn't wee on Corbyn if he was on fire.

Edit: actually I would, but only if it wasn't enough to put the nasty lying toad out.

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2019 13:40

He may be nasty and a toad and he is certainly a crap leader of the party but he’s not a liar. Ironically he would be a better leader if he was!

Beveren · 04/11/2019 13:41

Given all the bribes Johnson's suddenly come out with, the looming losses of Brexit, and the way the National Debt has rocketed since the Conservatives came to power, I'm amazed anyone's worried about what Labour would do to the economy.

You’re joking, surely?

No - I'm not. As I said, simply parroting the same claims doesn't make them true. Where is the evidence?

CendrillonSings · 04/11/2019 13:56

I object very strongly to ad hominems about Corbyn being used as an attempt to discredit left wing politics in general.

Perhaps if left-wingers didn't want to be tarred with his nasty associations they shouldn't have chosen him as the standard-bearer for the UK left?

He may be nasty and a toad and he is certainly a crap leader of the party but he’s not a liar.

You mean as in all those times he "was present, but didn't participate"?

Mistlewoeandwhine · 04/11/2019 14:00

Corbyn was part of the Labour initiative to speak to the IRA and create peace in NI. How can you effect a ceasefire without talking properly with both sides?

Mistlewoeandwhine · 04/11/2019 14:01

Also I support his anti Zionist stance.

PrinnyPree · 04/11/2019 14:04

My husband and I are reasonably well off, worked hard own our own home outright in Wilmslow paid off our student loans and are both under 40, I will be voting Corbyn and Labour. I think he's a breath of fresh air and if anybody who think's they're going to be less well off either have an annual household income of £250k or are delusional.

I want my children to not be ripped off with tuition fees, have well funded schools I want a functional NHS and yes I like that there's a safety net for those on hard times. People who take the mick at the bottom are dwarfed by those dodging taxes at the top.

I also want a second referendum now we are better informed of the consequences of Brexit and the benefits of our EU membership. Both sides remain and leave did not inform us properly.

I have yet to hear of a Labour policy I disagree with. The Far Left smear is alot of nonsense, their policies are Left of Centre at best.

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2019 14:04

There were lots of backdoor contacts with the IRA at the time when we apparently weren’t “giving them the oxygen of publicity” and voicing them by actors.

PrinnyPree · 04/11/2019 14:06

He isn't "anti-zionist" he's just critical of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, not the same thing. Educate yourself.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/11/2019 14:06

He is anti-semetic and an apologist for terrorists. Need I elaborate?

IME there's little point in elaborating; for those who don't wish to know it's all a right wing, media driven smear and the best you'll get is whataboutery. It's almost as if they think we're all incapable of researching for ourselves, rather than swallowing someone else's view wholesale

recrudescence · 04/11/2019 14:12

There was nothing terrifying in the last labour manifesto- just perfectly feasible left of centre proposals.

I agree with that and think there must a great many people who would like to see us try something different. However, voting for such a manifesto - as I did in 2017 - means voting for Corbyn. Last time I was assured he would never get near power. This time I won’t be taking any chances.

Alsohuman · 04/11/2019 14:13

How can you justify going back to the 70’s. Labour will bankrupt the country.

Now that the Tories have discovered a magic money forest, both parties are planning a return to public spending levels not seen since the 70s. They’re both planning to spend over 40% of GDP. If anyone’s voting Tory as the party of fiscal prudence, they’re going to be very disappointed.

recrudescence · 04/11/2019 14:21

No - I'm not. As I said, simply parroting the same claims doesn't make them true. Where is the evidence?

You nearly got me there! Nice one!

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2019 14:22

“ Last time I was assured he would never get near power. This time I won’t be taking any chances.”

We live in a parliamentary democracy, not a presidency. Otherwise no one with a sense of shame and a brain cell could currently vote conservative.

CendrillonSings · 04/11/2019 14:26

Otherwise no one with a sense of shame and a brain cell could currently vote conservative.

Haha - you joker! They certainly couldn’t vote for the far-left antisemite leading the Labour Party!

recrudescence · 04/11/2019 14:28

We live in a parliamentary democracy, not a presidency.

Yes, everyone knows that. They also know that a vote for Labour also makes a Corbyn premiership possible. It is impossible to vote for Labour but against Corbyn.

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 04/11/2019 14:32

You nearly got me there! Nice one!

So you admit the claims are completely unsubstantiated then?

recrudescence · 04/11/2019 14:37

So you admit the claims are completely unsubstantiated then?

Please, stop teasing me! I don’t think I can take many more LOLs!

CendrillonSings · 04/11/2019 14:38

Oh sure, nothing to see here:

m.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/jewish-labour-movement-wont-campaign-for-corbyn_uk_5dba8d6fe4b066da552c4e2b

The Jewish Labour Movement will not campaign for Jeremy Corbyn in the coming election and will support only a handful of MPs who have battled against anti-Semitism in the party.

Labour’s oldest affiliate organisation announced that for the first time in its 100-year history it would not be backing the party nationally because of the culture of anti-Jewish hate that had been “allowed to fester at all levels” since Corbyn became leader.
