Jeremy Corbyn

I see so many posters saying they won’t vote for Labour as they don’t like Jeremy Corbyn - why? If the Labour policies are good then why not vote for those rather than the leader?

OP posts:
PhilSwagielka · 30/10/2019 18:58

I work hard for my money and I still vote Labour.

Justanotherlurker · 30/10/2019 18:59

So BJ is having these secret talks for a laugh is he?

Imagine unironically linking the Independant when earlier telling others to stop reading articles.

That 'report' is full of 'understood' and 'coded messages' it's typical Independant click bait for the easily fooled partisan.

We really are scraping the barrel with political discussion as a country. That article is the equivalent of something out the rag that is the Mail.

SweetSummerchild · 30/10/2019 19:07

To give an example:

2019 - Labour are (if their conference is to be believed) going to abolish private schools and ‘redistribute‘ their assets within the state sector.

My guess is that about 7% of the population (mostly hardcore party loyalists) will think this is a great idea. About 10% will be vehemently opposed to it. The remaining 83% will realise it won’t effect them personally but are deeply uncomfortable about any implication that the government is prepared to seize property from private institutions.

2017 - ConservativeS planned to allow the expansion of grammar schools.

My guess is that about 7% of the population (mostly hardcore party loyalists) will think this is a great idea. About 10% will be vehemently opposed to it. The remaining 83% will realise it won’t effect them personally but are deeply uncomfortable about any implication that the government is prepared to provide a better education to brighter children.

See where I’m going with this? Policies which are considered tremendously wonderful to party loyalists really don’t appeal to the masses - the ones who decide who is in power.

The conservative’s 2017 manifesto was full of really unpopular policies, championed by the most uncharismatic leader known to man (yet sex scandal free). They still won more seats than Labour.

Labour’s policies and their general direction really worry many people. Until Labour members accept this, they are going to remain in opposition, shouting about how unfair everything is.

SweetSummerchild · 30/10/2019 19:11

Yes, major grammar fail. The 2017 conservative education policy should have been in the past tense. Copy and paste fail.

www.channel4.com/press/news/trumps-plan-nhs-channel-4-dispatches

Imagine being so lacking in comprehension that you think I told anyone to stop reading articles...

Besides which, the article in question was the first search result in a sea of stories based on the above piece of investigative journalism.

StinkGhoul · 30/10/2019 19:23

That article is the equivalent of something out the rag that is the Mail.

Ha. Watch the Dispatches and then say it’s rubbish. Observe BJ’s general behaviour and record since becoming PM and then tell me it’s rubbish. You’re burying your head in the sand.

Mary1935 · 30/10/2019 19:36

I was talking to a woman on the bus the other day. She said she worked with “high flyers” in London. She was genuine . She said if we only knew what the tortes are starting to do to the nhs there would be an uproar.
Even thought JC isn’t that great we must get those bloody entitled Torres out.
It really stayed with me.

fortunatelynot · 30/10/2019 19:38
  1. He displays absolutely no positive leadership qualities whatsoever.
  2. He has allowed a ridiculously mixed message to come out of his party about Brexit. Some of his MPs want to support a second referendum, some a new deal and some are aiming to get a new deal with the prior decision of rejecting it.
  3. Antisemitism.
  4. Not being able to display a strong relationship with his deputy.
  5. His past voting record since the 1970s. You can google it and might be surprised.
  6. His ridiculous policies at the last GE. He later admitted that paying all student fees would have effectively bankrupted Britain.
  7. His refusal to continue Labour as more of a centrist party or at least purely left. His now far left policies are concerning.
  8. Wanting to stop the Trident Nuclear Plan; somebody asked why he is dangerous and that is reason enough.
  9. His relationship with Hamas.
10. He lead the singing of The Red Flag at his recent party conference.

In saying all that he is the Tories best weapon.

SpaghettiSharon · 30/10/2019 19:54

@Ringdonna - nope they’re not trying to privatise the NHS, they’re actually doing it. Nice abuse when you don’t even have one iota of a fucking clue what you’re talking about.

PaisleyPrintz · 30/10/2019 19:58

He believes men can be women. I won't be voting for him.

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 20:05

Do you really think BJ would be any more understanding towards feminists?

I'm not defending JC though

SirVixofVixHall · 30/10/2019 20:14

There is no party really standing up for women’s rights.

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 20:16

True, but I know a party with a ton of excellent women MPs.

SirVixofVixHall · 30/10/2019 20:26

Who are they, and are they standing up for other women ? Or only the ones with a penis ?

notquiteruralbliss · 30/10/2019 20:26

I am a high rate tax payer but like him. And want a redistributive labour government, as do a lot of my friends.

Merename · 30/10/2019 20:32

I am utterly shocked at this country. I can’t believe that people can openly admit that they will vote Tory. Particularly given recent Tory shameful behaviour. It is useful to read as I don’t really know any Tories in RL (or at least anyone who would admit it). I found your post fascinating @fortunatelynot as my views are diametrically opposed to yours!

  1. He displays absolutely no positive leadership qualities whatsoever.

He is genuine, compassionate and has empathy. Everything I want in a prime minister.

  1. He has allowed a ridiculously mixed message to come out of his party about Brexit. Some of his MPs want to support a second referendum, some a new deal and some are aiming to get a new deal with the prior decision of rejecting it.

He respects that people have differing views to him, within the party and the electorate, and wants to make room for all voices.

  1. Antisemitism.

Criticism of the Israeli govt is not antisemitism.

  1. Not being able to display a strong relationship with his deputy.

Party deputy is a dick! Who could?

  1. His past voting record since the 1970s. You can google it and might be surprised.

I’m delighted with how he has voted.

  1. His ridiculous policies at the last GE. He later admitted that paying all student fees would have effectively bankrupted Britain.

Can I see a link to him admitting this? His policies are aimed at benefitting us all, nothing so exciting has happened in UK politics for decades.

  1. His refusal to continue Labour as more of a centrist party or at least purely left. His now far left policies are concerning.

His political beliefs are not centrist, why should he?

  1. Wanting to stop the Trident Nuclear Plan; somebody asked why he is dangerous and that is reason enough.

I would vote for him on this policy alone. Get trident out of our water ASAP.

  1. His relationship with Hamas.

His approach is that dialogue and trying to understand is the route to addressing conflict.

  1. He lead the singing of The Red Flag at his recent party
Merename · 30/10/2019 20:35

Oh and cut off my last one - the red flag is the party anthem and has been sung for decades, even the Blair years.

Livelovebehappy · 30/10/2019 20:35

Regardless that the man is totally incompetent and out of his depth on every level, can we really accept that Diane Abbott will probably play a big part in his future government? It’s a terrifying thought.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/10/2019 20:49

His political beliefs are not centrist, why should he (continue Labour as more of a centrist party)?

I'd say that depends on whether he wants the party to form a government, or just to snarl from the backbenches. He's absolutely entitled to his views, but also has to take responsibility for what follows if insufficient voters agree with them

And do be careful with the comments on Abbott, Livelovebehappy. To some on MN it doesn't matter that she's a proven incompetent and that you've criticised many others; with Diane, "it will be obvious why you're really criticising her" Wink

GlitchStitch · 30/10/2019 20:53

Criticism of the Israeli govt is not antisemitism.

No but all this is. How anybody can defend him is beyond me.

BadSun · 30/10/2019 20:54

His now far left policies are concerning

Can you give me some examples of the far left policies labour plans/wants to implement?

GlitchStitch · 30/10/2019 20:55

drankthekoolaid · 30/10/2019 20:55

I'm gutted that Corbyn is the leader because I find him incredibly insincere and as such he's no viable opposition.

Just when we need it the most.

HollowTalk · 30/10/2019 20:57

I think where Labour stand on Brexit is quite clear.

Please can you let me know then, because I haven't a clue?

Benes · 30/10/2019 21:09

Erm because of the anti-Semitism, the misogyny, and the supporting of terrorists for a start. Plus he has zero leadership qualities. I find him abhorrent.
