How are you voting in December?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this - I did look and couldn’t find one.

So now it’s been confirmed that we’re having a GE in December, how are you voting? And what are your predictions on the results?

I’ve seen quite a few posts on here over the past couple months from people saying they wouldn’t vote now as they are politically homeless - wondering if these people still feel that way?

I’m voting labour - albeit in a very safe Tory area (so feel very much as though my vote doesn’t count). Reasons being I would never vote Tory and I don’t like a lot of what the Lim Dems have said recently. I also couldn’t bring myself not to vote at all.

I can't believe I'm going to defend the act of voting tory BUT it must be remembered that everyone does what they do because they think it's the right thing.

Lots of people, for whatever reason, have got the idea (contrary to reality) that Labour would be genuinely dangerous for the country.

They're protecting their country, as they see it.

I think it's helpful to understand this perspective. There's no hope of changing anyone's mind if you don't understand it first

PookieDo · 30/10/2019 09:41

I am going to have to go LD. I can’t vote labour, they are shambolic and I don’t feel any connection to them anymore

I sometimes think people are afraid the scary stories the Tories like to tell people that the country will go to hell in a hand basket if lab or lib are in power, I believe fear keeps people voting for them, not actual solid belief in anything they do

derxa · 30/10/2019 09:42

Bearing in mind the world has changed dramatically since then. Do you mean people's standards of living have improved since then? What were the reasons for that?

Adamullah123 · 30/10/2019 09:42

@Macca84 do you think that jeremy Corbyn and John Mcdonnel are marxists then?

I really like the libbies this year round- something I can toast my tea on!

AllTheGoodUNsTaken · 30/10/2019 09:42

Probably labour. Our current Tory MP is, individually, not actually that bad, but I can't bring myself to endorse the Tory Party with a vote.

Facecadet · 30/10/2019 09:42

Conservative.

PookieDo · 30/10/2019 09:42

@fotheringhay

You just proved my point
Fear is making you vote for them! The idea that labour is dangerous is unfounded and just a Tory story

Iggly · 30/10/2019 09:45

If you think it’s purely the Conservative party then we may as well end the conversation now.

But I’ll point out that the economy doesn’t tend to fare better under the conservatives.

And living standards have fallen in the last decade 🤷🏻‍♀️ Inequality is appalling. Who do we have to thank for that 🤷🏻‍♀️

AllTheGoodUNsTaken · 30/10/2019 09:47

As for what I think will happen- hung parliament again. Brexit Party will get one or two seats, probably in places like Clacton (they had the only UKIP MP a few years ago, IIRC). LD will do quite well in vote numbers nationally but it won't translate well to MPs. Those who had Tory MPs who crossed the floor will vote in the next Tory on the ballot.
And the mess will continue.

SlightlyWizenedHead · 30/10/2019 09:48

Tactical LD vote as likeliest to defeat long resident Tory MP.
Cannot relate to the Labour Party anymore and would never, ever vote Tory.

Alicia9999 · 30/10/2019 09:48

Green. No to climate change, no to Brexit. Pretty clear to me.

I think people dismiss Green as just being an 'eco' party but they have some great policies, especially around women's rights/safety.

mintcorneto · 30/10/2019 09:49

SNP

81Byerley · 30/10/2019 09:49

Labour, usually. I will vote for anyone this time who will promise to stop Brexit.

derxa · 30/10/2019 09:49

I'm not voting conservative.

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 09:49

PookieDo I wouldn't vote Tory if you held a gun to my head!!!

I was just examining why other people might vote for them

BlooperReel · 30/10/2019 09:49

Spoiling my ballot (Tory safe seat) in objection to self-ID

DBML · 30/10/2019 09:50

Listen to why people vote in a different way to you, actually listen.

People ‘hear’ that you are voting differently but disagree with your opinion, therefore actual ‘listening’ isn’t possible.

For instance I voted leave. Now I could come up with every reason under the sun why leaving the EU is a good idea, but a remainer will bat each one off as they don’t have the ability to consider for a moment, anything but their own belief that leaving the EU would be nothing short of disaster. Therefore the ‘opposed’ won’t listen and therefore there is little point explaining.

I have tried and all I get is basically “your opinion sucks and clearly you can’t give me a good reason to leave the EU (in my opinion)”.

Likewise it’s a two way thing and there is no remainer out there who could persuade me that leaving will be a huge disaster. I’ll read your comments and then poo-poo them. I’m not able to listen and take those concerns seriously enough to change my opinion.

That’s the whole problem though isn’t it. Dragging this out over three years has created two sides, both equally entrenched in their own views, so much so that compromise now is impossible and the country leans towards the biggest division we’ve ever seen and people who find others opinions complete intolerable.

The GE is a second referendum as such and therefore differences of opinion will attract scathing put-downs and remarks of ‘how could you’ and ‘I’ve no respect for you...’ and ‘I’m flabbergasted that you could...’.

This country is utterly fucked. That’s the most succinct way I can put it.

Iggly · 30/10/2019 09:50

I agree. But until we have proportional representation, it’s hard to vote for them.

Alicia9999 · 30/10/2019 09:50

People that say things like 'conservative always' scare me. R u ok???

Iggly · 30/10/2019 09:51

@DBML those who voted Leave are the same 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve h

Alicia9999 · 30/10/2019 09:51

@Iggly Lots of people feel that way, like what they do but just think 'nah they'll never get in'.. with that attitude, they wont!

paap1975 · 30/10/2019 09:51

Can't vote as I live abroad and have, therefore, been stripped of my vote!

Iggly · 30/10/2019 09:52

Stupid phone. I’ve heard some argument for leave which has made me read into it further and check the facts. But ultimately I’d rather not take a gamble with leaving when changes could be made while still being a member of the eu.

PookieDo · 30/10/2019 09:52

@fotheringhay

Sorry 😂
It’s fear
Tories have peddled the belief that everyone else is incompetent and dangerous to deflect from their own incompetences IMO. They are so arrogant and deluded I can’t believe anyone would vote for them out of a strong belief that they are in actual fact the best bet, they just are afraid of a radical change
