Forgot about estate agents that say "complimented by" instead of "complemented by"......aarrgh!!!!

BinkySodPlop · 22/10/2019 20:46

I've noticed an increase of "on accident". Makes me shudder.

asparagusnextleft5 · 22/10/2019 21:01

One FB friend of mine constantly mixes up "his" and "he's".
So - "his really cute", "his starting school" but "he's friend" and "he's mum". So today I read "his going to get he's hair cut"!!

Another FB friend doesn't seem to understand the word "as" and writes it as "has". "has good has gold" etc!

Many others are guilty of defiantly/definatly, being "exited" about things, posting about having "brought" a new top, and an otherwise very good friend always writes "argh" when she means "ahhh" (if that makes sense? I'd imagine argh to express fright or disgust, when she means "ahhh the baby is so cute!")

I have to bite my tongue and sit on my hands every single time, because I'm pretty sure if I pulled them all up on it, I'd have no friends left!!!

ThebishopofBanterbury · 22/10/2019 21:05

Friend of mine always types "trickle treat" on facebook/emails and has for years. Haven't the heart to mention it now.

xsarax · 22/10/2019 21:06

For all intensive purposes
I found this gem on Facebook a few months ago Hmm

DirtyWindow · 22/10/2019 21:08

asparagusnextleft5 - did you go to the same school as these people? Any idea why they have such a hard time with English? It's pretty sad - it must impact their careers Sad

omikron · 22/10/2019 21:34

@x2boys

A Facebook friend of mine posted a picture of her son in his schoolchildren and Someone comments that he looked very swarve.

😂

SWARVE!!! OMFG!!! Grin That really tickled me!

Babybel90 · 22/10/2019 21:41

The first time I heard brought in place of bought I just couldn’t understand what my colleague was trying to tell me.

She said ”when my me and my boyfriend brought our house...” and I made her repeat it four or five times while I looked at her like this Confused until I asked her “where did you bring this house to?” and another colleague had to tell me she meant bought.

I still don’t understand how so many people can get that one wrong, I mean brought is a word with it’s own distinct meaning and it’s not like complement/compliment or whether/weather.

omikron · 22/10/2019 21:45

and I made her repeat it four or five times while I looked at her like this

You definitely knew what she meant

@Grammar, my husband and I are constantly correcting people on the TV. We shout out in unison "It's mischievous, you moron!"
"Have you got a girlfriend/ job/coat?"
"Yes I do" …"It's yes I HAVE you uneducated idiot" And if you start every answer to a question with "So", I hope you get knocked out of The Chase and the others all win thousands

Only morons that appear here would be you and Mr Morzzzzzzz

Why do these posts happen? They serve only to excite the limited it would seem. I've nothing against a good pisstake or decent satire, but these posts really do invite the same type.

BillHadersNewWife · 22/10/2019 21:49

Someone on here wrote "Box standard" yesterday instead of "bog standard"

I'm still upset today.

BillHadersNewWife · 22/10/2019 21:51

Binky what about "On a morning..."?

"When I get my DS ready on a morning."

WTF?

omikron · 22/10/2019 21:51

Bog standard is a corruption of box standard

Babybel90 · 22/10/2019 21:52

@omikron I honestly didn’t, I’d never heard anyone get those two words mixed up before and I just could not work out what she was trying to say because it didn’t make any sense to me.

rainingallday · 22/10/2019 21:54

@Onlythetitoftheiceberg

I was at a meeting recently where we discussed having a tannoy system fitted in the building. When the minutes were circulated I discovered we were actually considering a tanoi. A public address system made in Vietnam, I presume..

Are you thinking of HANOI?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanoi

kickedwhenimdown · 22/10/2019 21:54

One of my colleagues wrote ‘the child was boys tress’ in a report and it took me so long to understand what they were trying to say about hair......

BillHadersNewWife · 22/10/2019 21:54

Omikron well blow me down! I hate being wrong! I just googled and you're correct!

ViciousJackdaw · 22/10/2019 21:57

I seen my DM today. DF wasn't there as he has went too the footy with his pals. He does this alot.

kickedwhenimdown · 22/10/2019 22:03

My favourite deviation, I can’t be asked...... why can’t you be asked??

pugparty · 22/10/2019 22:05

Ibrufen
Ibrufren
Ibrufreren
Iboofen

All variants my colleague has called ibuprofen. I know its petty but oh god I die a little inside every time.

ScrambledSmegs · 22/10/2019 22:05

I have a lot of affection for rogue alots (see what I did there?). Hyperbole and a Half is why.

mummumumumumumum · 22/10/2019 22:06

I corrected someone on Facebook the other day when she was asking for help with her 'collage' project 😒

ScrambledSmegs · 22/10/2019 22:13

Pugparty the first brand of ibuprofen sold (in the world possibly?) was called Brufen, my DGM used to call all ibuprofen that, branded or otherwise. Sounds like your colleague has conflated the brand name and the generic name? Probably won't stop it annoying you though [grin[

TheRobinIsBobbingAlong · 22/10/2019 22:16

I think my biggest hate is the confusion some people have with your and you're, but I also dislike seeing 'a' before a vowel eg a elephant. I see that so much lately.
