Once... a long time ago when I was still on FB. A friend was always updating on how well she was doing in collage.

I often pictured her with glue and bits of paper.

RevRichardWayneGaryWayne · 22/10/2019 16:13

We should teach kids young so they have these things right from the gecko.

Otherwise they'll end up like a bowl in a china shop.

FrankenCat · 22/10/2019 16:14

But for now I'm going to say "Olive-wah" to you all. I shit you not.

FrankenCat · 22/10/2019 16:15

I blame all the bowled people. It's because they haven't got any hair.

TheGreaterGood · 22/10/2019 16:17

'That's a gibbon' instead of 'That's a given'...

Still my all-time favourite but sadly a one-off I think

ClientListQueen · 22/10/2019 16:17

I say haff past instead of half past but I do know how it's spelt Grin regional pronunciation

Proseccoinamug · 22/10/2019 16:20

I was expecting ‘spag bowl’ to be like those Buddha bowls...only more carby. Disappointed not to see artistically arranged pasta.

FrankenCat · 22/10/2019 16:20

Here in South Wales it's ha'past but again, I know how to spell it.

Kaykay06 · 22/10/2019 16:25

Chester draws gets me too
And affects/effects
Some people can’t help it, I for example am dyslexic so I wouldn’t know if a word was wrong to check it, sometimes I just know it doesn’t look Quite right. Also my friends kids have verbal dyspraxia so they can’t sound out words due to their speech so affects their spelling - something my friend recently told me. I can’t stand text speak though, and the use of youse which is very common locally.

TheSecretJeven · 22/10/2019 16:26

I've heard of Panda bowls (pound a bowl) too.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 22/10/2019 16:34

I remember Spag Bog from when I was a student in England in the (ahem) Seventies.

isabellerossignol · 22/10/2019 16:41

I hate the word fuming, detest it being spelt fumin' but the worst is fewmin

What about fumming? That misspelling always sounds worryingly like it might be something that would appear on urban dictionary

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 22/10/2019 16:42

I was at a meeting recently where we discussed having a tannoy system fitted in the building. When the minutes were circulated I discovered we were actually considering a tanoi. A public address system made in Vietnam, I presume...

zukiecat · 22/10/2019 16:45

Whenever there's an event on at the Exhibition Centre here I have a friend who always says she's going to the Expedition Centre

jamoncrumpets · 22/10/2019 16:49

In the SEN parenting world on SM you see a lot of people talking about having 'rest bite'

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/10/2019 16:57

I've just seen a new one... Someone on a cooking group taking about making cababs Hmm

1forAll74 · 22/10/2019 16:58

Its ok though, as I have a lovely big coloured Spag Bowl, made in Italy, that I serve up the Spag Bol in.

ScrambledSmegs · 22/10/2019 16:59

'That's a gibbon' instead of 'That's a given'...

My new favourite! I'd love to know the logic behind it - after all Joey's 'Moo point' did make a strange sort of sense.

TheRobinIsBobbingAlong · 22/10/2019 17:00

'Women' when the person is writing about a singular woman

Also, 'turnt'. That one really winds me up!

The Chester Draws thing - although my 20yo DD can spell it correctly as chest of drawers, she insists that drawers is pronounced 'draw-rers' rather than 'draws' Grin.

I'm another person who has to tie their hands behind their back when they see spelling mistakes on forums. I know there are all sorts of reasons why someone may not be able to spell, or they're typing quickly on a smartphone, but I still have a strong desire to correct.

SachaStark · 22/10/2019 17:01

I saw a “Noah Fence” a few months ago, and still haven’t recovered.

maddening · 22/10/2019 17:02

Is it no a bowl of spag bol?

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 22/10/2019 17:06

In the SEN parenting world on SM you see a lot of people talking about having 'rest bite'

This reminded me of one I saw the other day about a 'head syc' (Ed psych). Took me a minute to work that one out.

TheRobinIsBobbingAlong · 22/10/2019 17:09

Someone on another thread has just talked about their NDN living in "discussing shit" for years. I couldn't help myself and pointed it out with a Grin

MillicentMartha · 22/10/2019 17:38

My DSes are always doing things purposefully when they mean purposely. I’ve tried explaining the difference but they don’t believe me. I’ve failed as a parent. Grin

SilverySurfer · 22/10/2019 17:48

Shock SachaStark

My biggest hate is could/would/should OF instead of HAVE .

A lot of people use ect instead of etc and que instead of cue seems to be popular. I dislike invite instead of invitation. The other day a poster said I borrowed a friend my dress!

Talk about strangling the English language.
