A thread on here the other day contained the gem 'cloud coo-coo land'

hauntedvagina · 22/10/2019 13:22

I have a FB acquaintance who is always telling the world about her "cleaver" children.

SingingLily · 22/10/2019 13:24

So they take after their mum? 😁

Jayne35 · 22/10/2019 13:29

I saw someone who was planning on taking her children out trickle treating soon. Grin

FattyCutty · 22/10/2019 13:30

Apsolutely instead of absolutely Angry

johnlennonsglasses · 22/10/2019 13:37

I read about people saying brought instead of bought here on MN. I didn't quite believe it, then I began to see it everywhere!
Recently on a daytime property show someone said 'we brought this house'. I rewinded it several times to check and could hardly believe it!
Some people are glue bags!

FawnDrench · 22/10/2019 13:49

Hope she didn't make to much else it needs gone.
You'll have to bare with her and be a sholder to leen on.

81Byerley · 22/10/2019 13:52

@johnlennonsglasses I think "brought" instead of bought is very common in Essex, in my experience.

managedmis · 22/10/2019 13:54

Trickle treating

Drabarni · 22/10/2019 13:55

I think it shows the state of the education at the time tbh.
I can't poke fun at people who haven't gained a decent enough education.

isabellerossignol · 22/10/2019 14:02

If you're as old as me, you'll possibly have childhood memories of The Mr Men voiced by Arthur Lowe. (Absolutely the best thing about being off school sick and being able to watch lunchtime TV). Mischievous was always pronounced as mischiev-ee-us.

I remember my P3 teacher correcting me and I was convinced she was wrong because, well, it was the telly, and surely everything on the telly was correct? Grin

zukiecat · 22/10/2019 14:04

Some of these are making me laugh,

But I hate Spaghetti Bolognese being shortened to Spag Bol

Just cannot stand it

Toooldtobearsed2 · 22/10/2019 14:08

@02isabellerossignol I have laughed my way all through these posts, until yours😮

I bloddy well say mischiev-ee-us and never, ever thought it was wrong😲

Perhaps I belong on fb......

JorisBonson · 22/10/2019 14:09

"Hes" instead of "his"

Steam coming from my ears

Toooldtobearsed2 · 22/10/2019 14:09

No. It IS mischiev-ee-us.

How else would you say it?

It is definitely mischiev-ee-us and the spelling is incorrect.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/10/2019 14:16

Gawjus. Took me ages to work that one out.

Livedandlearned · 22/10/2019 14:20

@ClemDanFango that made me LOL! Ur funny hun

Vampirinabat · 22/10/2019 14:21

Well, I guess if the spaghetti was in a bowl it technically is a spag bowl 🥣 well, a bowl of spaghetti... Somehow I don't think that's what they meant

loobywench · 22/10/2019 14:25

My local Facebook marketplace had someone selling 2 candle harbours Grin

justilou1 · 22/10/2019 14:25

I get an absolute brain explosion every time I go to the fruit shop and see avacado’s (yes, spelled like that!) and tomato’s. Aaaaaaaaagh!!!

Also Aussie and Spag Bog where we live.

teddyclown · 22/10/2019 14:25

@CornishMade

I see a lot of Americans on FB who say 'Wallah' I have to tie my hands behind my back, because I really want to correct that!

DontCallMeShitley · 22/10/2019 14:26

I am discusted by some of these comments just bare with me though as I am now going to put the cat bowels in the sink as they need a wash.

OvaHere · 22/10/2019 14:28

"Selt" is another one. As in "Sorry mate I already selt the car".

It tends to be spoken more than written down so it might be more of a regional colloquialism than anything.

I also know a few people who use borrow instead of lend. As in "I asked my Dad if he could borrow me the money".

Language is fascinating! Grin

Itsallpetetong · 22/10/2019 14:32

Akwarium anyone?

Just seen my first 'spag bowl' on FB. I feel like I belong here now
Whathappenedtothelego · 22/10/2019 14:35

Our local cat rescue has a steady stream of cats that have been found wondering.
