....sorry guys!

I needed somewhere to vent at about daft drivers. I'm aware this is probably one of 3421 threads in AIBU about them but hey ho.

So today I've had a) Cars pulling out on me when they hadn't judged my speed, meaning I had to emergency brake twice on my commute otherwise I'd had gone into their side, and they evidently couldn't wait for me to pass so they could be in the space behind me where no other cars were and b) There is a local haulage company and their depot is in a residential area, so it means all their huge wagons are driving on narrow, bendy roads at 15mph because the roads are totally unsuitable for huge trucks! Every day I'm behind one thundering through small residential roads to get to and from their depot.

So, what's your peeves about drivers this week? Were only on Monday so they could be a lot longer by the end of the week!

People who can't indicate on roundabouts.

Chocolatelover45 · 21/10/2019 15:16

Parking on the pavements. Idling engines. Especially outside schools

cricketmum84 · 21/10/2019 15:18

Jumping red lights
Wagons pulling out on you when you are on a roundabout so you have to brake to not plough into the side of them

GinDaddy · 21/10/2019 15:22

People driving for junction after junction occupying the middle lane, and not moving over to the completely empty left lane, as they are mandated to by the Highway Code.

mrssoap · 21/10/2019 15:24

Slow drivers. I'm all for driving carefully, but 30mph on a 60mph road is not necessary

MustardScreams · 21/10/2019 15:25

Anyone outside a school. They just seem to lose all sensible function and act/park/drive like twats.

wowfudge · 21/10/2019 15:26

Drivers who randomly stop to let someone out of a side road. These idiots never look behind them first. If they did they'd realise there'll soon be a natural gap for the car in the side out to turn out into.

Panicmode1 · 21/10/2019 15:29

I was walking on the pavement in the pouring rain, with a huge RED golfing umbrella, so not remotely invisible. The main road was on my left, and to my right (on the other side of the pavement from the road) is a dentist with one parking space left. A lady in a large Discovery turned from behind me into the space, and missed me by about 6 inches (I'm not kidding) and she only didn't hit me because I stopped dead. She should have waited until I'd crossed the space, but no - she had to get her children to the dentist safely and sod any pedestrians. She didn't even look remotely shocked or apologetic when I stared at her in disbelief (and slight shock)!

Also had to brake REALLY hard when a learner driver pulled out from a side road across me (no-one behind me) - I wasn't going more than about 25 as it is a horrible road and it was v wet, so actually they should have been WAY more cautious!

I really do think that the standard of driving and courtesy to other drivers (and just other road users) has deteriorated very significantly since I started driving many moons ago. And I don't think it's just because there is more traffic.....

scoobydoo1971 · 21/10/2019 15:44

People who pull out of a side road in busy traffic blocking the on-coming lane while waiting for a gap in the other side of the road...grrr selfish. People who take a hard turn into a side road or driveway, usually in a large vehicle, only to realise they cannot pass through...then they blind reverse out onto the road expecting you to reverse into a string of cars behind you by magic...

People who stop suddenly with little warning in busy traffic to let other drivers out of driveways and side-roads...while the cars behind them pile up...shame the DVLA don't insist on a common sense test.

MrsSpenserGregson · 21/10/2019 15:46

Totally agree. In all walks of life, not just driving Sad

bobbley · 21/10/2019 15:47

People in overtaking lanes on duel carriage ways/motorways WHO AREN'T OVERTAKING!!!! This gives me rage. Get back over to the left!! This causes most motorway congestion.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 21/10/2019 15:50

People who can’t figure out what an adequate breaking distance is and drive 1m behind you on the motorway. Just no.

And truck drivers who change landed without looking (nearly plowing into cars in the other lane who either have to attempt to merge into the next lane or emergency break.

People who load up their tiny city car to brim so they can’t see anything in their rear view mirror and then barge onto a motorway in rush hour again causing near misses.

People who swerve through traffic like they’re playing GTA.

People who drive really slowly (20/30 mph under the limit).

People who change lanes without indicating.

MrsSpenserGregson · 21/10/2019 15:52

Those of you saying that drivers shouldn't stop to let other drivers pull out of side roads or driveways: when I was learning to drive in the 1980s my driving instructor told me that it was good driving practice to let people out whenever possible and safe to do so. The cars behind you should be a reasonable stopping distance away, so it shouldn't be a problem if the car in front slows down to let another out. Common courtesy.

I was also taught that, wherever possible, a vehicle driving down a hill should give way to a vehicle driving up the hill. I swear I am literally the only person in my town who does this!

A pet hate of mine is when there is a huge queue of slow-moving traffic coming up to a set of traffic lights, and the lights turn red. There is a queue of cars in a side road wanting to turn into or across the queue of traffic but, even though they can't actually get anywhere because the lights have turned red, the oncoming cars won't stop to let a car out of the side road, but barge right up as far as they can, blocking the side road completely. It's totally wankerish behaviour.

Tailgating is the worst though. It's so stupid, so dangerous, so aggressive and intimidating.

Itsallpetetong · 21/10/2019 15:54

The total tw*t who belted past me, overtook the car in front of me, then decided he did want to take that junction after all so pulled across in front of us and went over the chevrons rather than miss his exit.

The idiot last week who was in the wrong lane on the roundabout for our exit and nearly T-boned me.

Whoever hit my door outside work the other day because they couldn’t do a 3 point turn in the space they had Angry

MrsSpenserGregson · 21/10/2019 15:59

Ooh ooh I have another one. People who drive on the same roads as me with a dog unsecured in their car. Usually on the front seat or, often, sitting on their bloody lap. FFS. Buy a fecking dog guard and put Fido in the boot, or one of those seat belt clips for dogs. Idiots.

Dandelion1993 · 21/10/2019 16:01

@mrssoap I completely understand.

We have a road where I live that is national speed limit (so 60) yet everyday there are idiots driving on it at 30mph!

I don't think they realise that driving that slowly under the limit is just as dangerous as speeding.

HunterAngel · 21/10/2019 16:03

The bus drivers who bully their way through because they know I won’t argue with a vehicle twice the size of me.

The idiots who can’t/won’t read the road signs, consistently get in the wrong lane then blared their horns at me when it’s their mistake.

People who pull out on me and proceed to drive slower then my arthritic grandmother’s fastest walk.

Livedandlearned · 21/10/2019 16:07

Waiting to get onto a roundabout, in the left hand lane and drivers in the right hand side pulling so far forward that I can't see anything at all ffs

BlueNeighbourhood · 21/10/2019 16:08

I hate cars as well that cheat the roads, as I call it.

For example, I'll be sitting in a queue of traffic up to traffic lights or a small roundabout, and you'll see cars turn off behind you and whizz up side streets right to the front of the queue and be expected to be let out and there you go, cheated the road. It happens every night on my way home, and really annoys me.

I have to sit in the traffic in the correct lanes for the journey, so I don't get why idiots think that's okay, or zooming up in the wrong lane and cutting in is also fine. I've got to the point now I just don't let cars in when that happens. If only there was some sort of deterrent to them.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/10/2019 16:12

My gripe is really simple: people driving cars who don't seem to realise that there are other people also driving cars and using the same road. That covers all the idiocy and selfishness and inconsiderateness in one sentence.

When I was a learner I was taught things like "if you make someone else change speed or direction suddenly to avoid hitting you, then you're probably doing something wrong" and "look in the mirror first to check it's safe, then signal to show anyone else what you are about to do, and then do it" and "signal even if you are turning left or pulling in to the side" and other stuff like that, and it is all about paying attention to the other people on the road and pavement and giving them a fair chance; some days I feel that I may be the only person on the road who has ever heard of these very basic ideas, or remembers them.

TSSDNCOP · 21/10/2019 16:13

This plus the ones coming toward you when you are stopped to turn right that randomly stop and flash their lights so you can cross them. Yeah ok so when I kill the calculator on your near side you’ll be there for me?

Anyone that can only park or manoeuvre by gliding front first into a space.

People that cannot manoeuvre. This is typically because they are too fat or too overdressed to actually move their arms and heads. You can flame me for this one all you like, but it’s bloody true.

TSSDNCOP · 21/10/2019 16:16

Cyclist not calculator Hmm

JustDanceAddict · 21/10/2019 16:17

People who stop in the middle of the road round where I live. If you’re lost - pull in ffs. They either stop dead or drive at 5mph.

JustDanceAddict · 21/10/2019 16:19

TSS - so true re the turning right thing.

TSSDNCOP · 21/10/2019 16:21

Plus anyone that thinks the need for “courtesy” overrides the Highway Code. If everyone adheres to a single standard it eliminates ambiguity.

OP strategically placed sniper towers would eliminate the cutting in.
