....sorry guys!

I needed somewhere to vent at about daft drivers. I'm aware this is probably one of 3421 threads in AIBU about them but hey ho.

So today I've had a) Cars pulling out on me when they hadn't judged my speed, meaning I had to emergency brake twice on my commute otherwise I'd had gone into their side, and they evidently couldn't wait for me to pass so they could be in the space behind me where no other cars were and b) There is a local haulage company and their depot is in a residential area, so it means all their huge wagons are driving on narrow, bendy roads at 15mph because the roads are totally unsuitable for huge trucks! Every day I'm behind one thundering through small residential roads to get to and from their depot.

So, what's your peeves about drivers this week? Were only on Monday so they could be a lot longer by the end of the week!

So you turn right across them, pause, check ,see the cyclist, wait tor the cyclist to go by,finish your turn and go on your way... How is that difficult?

WaningGibbous · 21/10/2019 16:23

Road position. So people waiting to turn right at a T junction but sitting on the middle of the 2-3 car width junction meaning no one can turn left, when usually there's absolutely no one coming and I could have turned left 10 bloody minutes ago but matey boy is sitting there waiting for a 20 car length space to nudge into which will never ever happen but will he get out of my way I don't think so.

So that's one end of my road. The other end is generally blocked by a queue of traffic full of stupid bloody idiots who will block the end of the road and not let me turn right because they HAVE to block the road to stop any cars turning left into the queue in front of them and I am just collateral damage in their stupid penis waving. Wankers.

TSSDNCOP · 21/10/2019 16:29

Are you joking? Because, it’s not their job to stop and allow traffic to turn right across them. Their job is to follow the Highway Code and let me turn right when it is Clear and safe for me to do so.

GinDaddy · 21/10/2019 16:32

People who are blatantly on their phones, texting someone holding the telephone in their hand, while glancing up and down at the road in front of them.

Lonelycrab · 21/10/2019 16:33

Middle lane motorway hogs doing 55. Had one last night- hit a really congested patch on the m25 when is had been quite good up till then.

As I got towards the front of the slowed up bit, sure enough it was a young driver doing 50 or so in lane three. Plenty of people flashing but to no avail. Most weren’t undertaking so we all had to make our way past one by one.

bloodywhitecat · 21/10/2019 16:44

The tractor driver who waited until he could see the whites of my eyes before he pulled out of the side lane?

Panicmode1 · 21/10/2019 16:45

I really do think that the standard of driving and courtesy to other drivers (and just other road users) has deteriorated very significantly since I started driving many moons ago. And I don't think it's just because there is more traffic.....

Totally agree. In all walks of life, not just driving Sad

^Absolutely!

supersop60 · 21/10/2019 16:46

My DP Blush.
He drives his car in the same way that he drives his motorbike (changing lanes quickly etc), hates waiting in any kind of traffic and will jiggle through side roads etc to jump ahead, hogs the middle lane I'm secretly waiting for the police to catch him, drives like a grandad when we're on holiday ("I want to look at the scenery, I'm on holiday").
I'm sure there are more.

gamerchick · 21/10/2019 16:48

The tractor driver who waited until he could see the whites of my eyes before he pulled out of the side lane?

Grin can't argue with a tractor.

One memorable occasion where there was a bunch of us sitting at a roundabout and all watched this bloke turn right at the roundabout, in the left lane with no indicators. More than one person beeped at him. Sometimes I think there are definitely people out there who have had no proper lessons.

Wheat2Harvest · 21/10/2019 16:51

My pet hate (apart from tailgaters) is drivers who are turning right from a main road into a side road who stop short of the junction to let people from the side road out first.

I know they are trying to be nice but THEY have the right of way. If I were to pull out first and they pulled forward and hit me the collision would be my fault.

Also, I can't see all of the main road with them stuck there, especially if they stop just after a bend - and this includes motorcyclists and cyclists passing on their left. So I wave frantically to them to tell them to turn first (usually they do) so that I can actually see whether the road is clear.

There really is no point in doing this anyway unless there is a really large vehicle turning that requires extra space.

DieSchottin93 · 21/10/2019 16:52

Anyone that can only park or manoeuvre by gliding front first into a space.

I do this but only do it when there's hardly any cars around me. Takes far less time than me attempting to reverse. To be fair I've only had my car a couple of weeks so I'm still getting used to it Blush

JuniLoolaPalooza · 21/10/2019 16:54

As a pp said, the way people seem to lose their minds outside schools. Just today I picked dd up, and could people who'd loaded their kids up then seemed to think 'fuck the lot of you' and sped off at about 40mph!

Anyone accelerating towards a stop line or red light. It drives me mad.

People that overtake you to...a red light. slow clap for those winners

There must be tailgaters in here, why do you do it?!

Iwantacookie · 21/10/2019 17:01

The bastard dp van driver who was so close to me he was setting of my warning beep in the car. You see the 5 cars in front of me stopped for the red light. Yes knob stick you have to wait for us to go first.
Honestly I hate driving so much because of other people who quite frankly are dangerous on the road.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 21/10/2019 17:04

Where I live, is a junction off the main road. Top of the road is car park, bit further down is another carpark, then the road dips and then bends so you can see nothing going up or down. To make it extra special, people too lazy to park across the road in the carparks, park along the opposite side.

I nearly had a head on going up, see nothing coming, so edge out slowly and go up. Matey boy in a bmw comes racing down, leaving barely enough time to pull over to let me pass, as I've go nowhere to go and another care behind, but nah, tis my fault for being there and making him move over.

The other day, going down was the best. Parked cars lined up one side. Car in front trying to go down, one trying to get out of the top carpark, another trying to get out of the bottom carpark, another car trying to come up the road.

At peak time, just getting down the road to my house can be the worst part of my commute.

Libertylee · 21/10/2019 17:08

They probably have judged your speed, they just assume everyone will stop if they edge out- drives me mad. My pet peeves are people who use a faster lane on roads to undertake and cut in at top of queue and people who think roundabouts should just be driven across without even looking to give way.

MereDintofPandiculation · 21/10/2019 17:15

Cars pulling out on me when they hadn't judged my speed, meaning I had to emergency brake twice on my commute Emergency brake? Brake hard, I can understand, but "emergency brake" suggests you were driving too fast for the visibility.

People who pull out of a side road in busy traffic blocking the on-coming lane while waiting for a gap in the other side of the road...grrr selfish. People who won't let you in from a side road, meaning your only way is to wait for a gap in the near carriageway and pull into it while waiting for a gap the other side.

The people down the road I need to get to mine, who park on the junction, so it’s impossible to see if any car is coming from the opposite direction. And cars coming from the opposite direction who are driving far too fast for the road, which is narrow.

Swer987 · 21/10/2019 17:33

People who sit in the right lane of a National Speed Limit dual carriageway doing 50mph when there’s no one in the left lane.

People who drive 40mph on a single NSL road.

Drivers that don’t indicate.

Drivers that just randomly slow down by taking their foot off the accelerator, but not breaking.

People who try to edge out of a junction when you are clearly not slowing down to allow them out.

People who park over the lines in a carpark.

I could go on and on...

iklboo · 21/10/2019 17:38

Also had to brake REALLY hard when a learner driver pulled out from a side road across me (no-one behind me) -

That's the instructor's fault for letting them. They should have taken dual control of the car (DH would). Unless they were out with a parent / friend instead of a qualified instructor.

7, with a sibling who was 9., many years ago. Half mile walk to the bus, then 5 mile journey straight to the school. Way home was mostly in the dark as it was a stay for tea school so we didn’t get home until 7 ish.

A couple of times when I was walking home alone I was followed and harassed by an older lad, told my parents about it but my mum still couldn’t be arsed to come and meet me from the bus.

JellyBook · 21/10/2019 17:46

Arse, wrong thread sorry

Lysianthus · 21/10/2019 17:49

The guy who drove in the fast lane in his Porsche at 60 mph on a dual carriageway for about 6 miles. Everyone started undertaking him which is dangerous but I sort of saw their POV.
