....sorry guys!

I needed somewhere to vent at about daft drivers. I'm aware this is probably one of 3421 threads in AIBU about them but hey ho.

So today I've had a) Cars pulling out on me when they hadn't judged my speed, meaning I had to emergency brake twice on my commute otherwise I'd had gone into their side, and they evidently couldn't wait for me to pass so they could be in the space behind me where no other cars were and b) There is a local haulage company and their depot is in a residential area, so it means all their huge wagons are driving on narrow, bendy roads at 15mph because the roads are totally unsuitable for huge trucks! Every day I'm behind one thundering through small residential roads to get to and from their depot.

So, what's your peeves about drivers this week? Were only on Monday so they could be a lot longer by the end of the week!

Slow drivers. If you or your car aren’t capable of driving within 10 mph of the speed limit, you shouldn’t be on the road.

FabulouslyFab · 21/10/2019 18:15

Driving down the motorway tonight. Checking mirrors like you do, could see flashing blue lights approaching from a distance. Everyone moved over EXCEPT a large German reg van in the outside lane doing less than 70. There was plenty of space for him to move over (M6 Cumbria) The blue lights were an ambulance car and they sat behind him for a little while before pulling across to the inside lane (both inside lanes were clear) and getting past him that way. The gormless plonker just sat there then slowly moved into the middle lane where he probably still is.
Even if you aren’t used to driving over here surely you should be checking your mirrors!!!
Such a shame it wasn’t the police.
I’m still cross!!!!

Auba14 · 21/10/2019 18:17

I’ve just had one!

Driving with about six cars infront of me, straight road through a village when everyone starts braking. The road ahead is totally clear, the first car was going quite slowly (about 20mph in a 30 zone). And then the traffic comes to a total stop.

Turns out the driver at the front has decided to let someone cross the road. That pedestrian could’ve waited, but nope, the driver thought he’d stop a train of cars purely so he can do his good deed for the day - he didn’t realise something like this could quite easily cause an accident!

Atropa · 21/10/2019 18:43

@FabulouslyFab
The van driver was likely reacting to the way they do in Germany - cars there pull over to either side of the lanes, leaving a clear space in the middle. Doesn't excuse their lack of knowledge over here, though.

My pet peeves on my commute: people who cannot drive at more than 35-40mph on a 60 lane. Don't be on that road if you cannot drive at close to the speed limit in good conditions.

People who occupy two lanes while driving on a roundabout. Plan ahead and stick to your own lane.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 21/10/2019 19:19

When you drive out from a side road onto a main road, but can't quite see both sides of the main road because of parked cars, so have to slowly peep and creep. And then some idiot on the main road approaches as you're sort of halway through and instead of driving at their normal speed or slow down, f** speeds up and beeps, despite knowing you can't either reverse back, nor magically speed 50 meters up the road.
Also, people who don't use indicators. Recently drove behind a driving instructor (!!!) who didnt use indicator the whole time I was behind them, how frustrating.

BlueChangeling · 21/10/2019 19:48

The lady in the blue mini behind me on the way to work. Everytime I looked in my rearview mirror she was looking down at her phone. In the 15 minutes she was behind me I didn't see her look forward once

SuzieBishop · 21/10/2019 19:59

Today I overtook an Audi driver - he must of been going about 70, I was going about 74 so tootled past him. I pull back into the left lane then about 30 seconds later he screams past me and the one in front and flys on for a while. Then I’m getting closer and closer to him because he’s slowed right down again. I just don’t get it!!!! Why not go just one blooody speed?

SmilingButClueless · 21/10/2019 20:03

People who deliberately get in the wrong lane approaching a junction because the queue is shorter, only to expect others to let them into the correct lane when they’re near the front.

woodhill · 21/10/2019 20:10

That's mine too blue and people who are in the wrong lane to tun right at a roundabout. Then cut across the people in the correct lane

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 21/10/2019 20:43

People who don't indicate
People who drive at 20mph on the 40mph dual carriageway
People who forget how to drive as soon as it rains

Today, it was the numpty who indicated across into my lane before cutting me up, then proceeded to the traffic light slip into our estate, before stopping dead at the GREEN light. He then realised, went through the lights, which immediately changed to amber then red, leaving me stuck on the sliproad.... grrrrr. If he had watched the road, I would've been through with plenty time

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 21/10/2019 20:44

*indicated across which I flashed him twice, but didnt move over, then swung over last minute, hence 'cutting me up'

Jupiters · 21/10/2019 20:48

People who drive significantly under the allowed limit. I drive to work at 0545 and frequently get stuck behind people doing 35mph in a 60 zone (especially annoying as it's a really good road, not twisty or turny in any way). Where are they going that's so important that they need to go at 0545 but isn't important enough to drive anywhere near the speed limit?!

bert3400 · 21/10/2019 20:50

Sitting in the fast lane when NOT overtaking anything ....I've just come back from France and it's a joy to drive, everyone moves over to the inside lane, but not here....oh no .
If you do this DON'T 😠

Vulpine · 21/10/2019 20:53

Car drivers who think their better drivers than everyone else. Drivers who dont leave enough room for cyclists.

user764329056 · 21/10/2019 20:55

The modern phenomenon of driving ‘indicators optional’

LannisterLion1 · 21/10/2019 21:37

Van driver decided to park on the pavement, pulled up in front of me then continued to move up next to me about 2 inches away from my arm as he did.

Dickhead who when i stepped on the zebra, revved his engine and i had to jump back so he didn't clip my baby bump.

Brahumbug · 22/10/2019 07:13

People who don't understand 'merging in turn' and think that people in the outside lane are queue jumping when lanes merge, fuckwits.

cricketmum84 · 22/10/2019 08:40

@Brahumbug that's my DH. Drives me fucking insane when he is driving and goes on the defensive at a lane merge rather than just letting people in in turn!!!

woodhill · 22/10/2019 09:58

Lane merges are fine but not people queue jumping when they are in the turning off lane and then barging back into the main motorway at the last minute. Waiting is beneath them.

This happens on the A40 at High Wycombe frequently.

PixieDustt · 22/10/2019 10:11

People who stop on the slip road to merge in with the motorway when it's completely clear!

People who flash for you to move out of a lane on the motorway when you're doing the speed limit. They need to 🖕🏻.

People who stop to let people cross if they just checked in their mirrors they would know after me it was completely clear so they could've crossed then! 🤬

OverthinkingThis · 22/10/2019 10:19

This morning it was foggy round my way and there were a scary number of people driving down narrow country lanes with no lights on at all. It was for the most part not foggy enough for full fog lights, but to not even put their headlights on was inexcusable.

For me its things that generally show the attitude that people just must be first.

Every morning on the drive to school I come down the main road and then indicate right to turn down a side road. I an waiting the box for a gap. You can see quite a bit of the road ahead so can see gaps well. Then the road disappears round a Corner. More often than not you can see a gap. Then the person behind the gap visibly speeds up and drives faster and faster to choose the gap. The road is a 30. So they speed just so the person turning right, cant do so. Why? What difference does it make to them?

Ds goes to breakfast and after school club so I dont have to deal with the school run traffic anymore, thank god. We can pull into the car park. But even then a man in a works van would pull into the car park, park the bering way across the 2 disabled parking spots hop out and then run his child in. Ince I was leaving and he just set off and swung his van into a u turn and nearly ran me over.

Also theres an industrial estate between work and my house. Twice last week hgvs pulled out on to the roundabout once I was already on it. Causing me to stop and traffic to back up behind me (its busy so that causes issues for ages) they were going down the same exit as me and then drive at 15 miles an hour, because it's quite a small road. Why?

These lorries then go through the village that's meant to be banned because I'd a low bridge. 6 times this year, hgvs have got stuck under the bridge because they want to use that road because its quicker to motorway. It's a big commuter village and HGVs cause chaos, either getting stuck or unable to manoeuvre around corners. If they simply turned right when leave the industrial estate they would be straight on to the m62. That part of the M62 links with the A1, 2 junction down it connects with M1. But no, they would rather drive through the village causing chaos to jump directly on the M1.

Or the people that see you move lane to over take and start speeding up. So you pull in behind them and they slow down.

It's like people think 'fuck other road users'.
