And croutons Typing as I eat a lovely hot bowl of mulligatawny soup. I don't get how people could spoil it with a dry piece of bread - soup is much better on it's own. Am I being unusual?

Massively soup on its own is half a meal.

Dry bread maybe, you'd need butter on it, but soup on its own ... nooooooo!!!!

I could do half a loaf dipped in a nice tomato soup easily.

But soup on it's own is so warm and comforting! I think the bread spoils it... I really don't know why as I like bread

Id want bread too. Occasionally, if the soup is a really thick, filling soup, I could cope without bread, but a lovely crusty bread with butter improves any soup so much, and croutons or bread dropped in improves a thin soup.

OP you should live in America - if you order soup there you usually get a small packet of crackers with it, if anything, and have to actually ask if you want bread (from my experiences on various room services!)

That Italian tomato and bread soup is one of the best comfort foods ever. Onion soup with french bread and bubbling melted gruyère.

And my absolute favourite - Heinz tomato soup with toasted cheese fingers. THE BEST.

Well I low carb, but if I'm eating carbs, then bread and butter dipped into soup is definitely much better than plain soup.
