To think bread in soup is vile

And croutons Wink Typing as I eat a lovely hot bowl of mulligatawny soup. I don't get how people could spoil it with a dry piece of bread - soup is much better on it's own. Am I being unusual? Grin

Soup with a cheese scone is delicious

SmudgeButt · 19/10/2019 17:21

Bread in soup is almost as bad as dunking biscuits in tea or coffee. Makes me heave just to witness it!

Bread and butter with soup is fine. If you want something to put in your soup then add chunks of cheese. Now that's tasty.

peachycore · 19/10/2019 17:22

@KUGA Now i'm just imagining drinking soup in a wine glass Grin

Lay off the cup a soup Op & start making your own. Another crusty bread with lashings (like Famous 5) of butter here.

Honeyroar · 19/10/2019 17:39

Chowder served in a bread bowl always seems pointless to me - you can't eat the bread until you've finished the soup.I want the bread WITH my soup...

Oysterbabe · 19/10/2019 17:42

You're so unreasonable I'm thinking of logging it with 101.

AllFourOfThem · 19/10/2019 17:43

French onion soup is my favourite and you can’t have that by itself!

Nuttyaboutnutella · 19/10/2019 17:43

You are all kinds of wrong OP. Leave, leave now. Hell, leave the country, you tryrant 😠

Grin

YABU. Soup and bread is just a match made in heaven and my current lunch staple in the cold weather.

WhenDoesTheWashingEnd · 19/10/2019 17:45

YABU
Bread with a nice dollop of butter is what MAKES soup! Grin

Biancadelrioisback · 19/10/2019 17:47

A ham sandwich (with really cold ham) dipped into really hot soup is a proper autumn meal to me

Fizzypoo · 19/10/2019 17:48

This is actually the most unreasonable post I've ever seen on MN!

I made a delicious butternut squash soup for lunch, I sprinkled parmesan cheese on top and dipped in buttered bread.

Cheese on toast, or cheese toastie for extra comfort with tomato soup is my favourite comfort food if I have a cold. You're so totally unreasonable.

I do like crackers with soup but it's not the same as buttered bread.

OkayGo · 19/10/2019 17:51

@Biancadelrioisback might try that one day..

OkayGo · 19/10/2019 17:52

I once had no bread so used frozen garlic bread with cheese on top to dip in creamy tomato soup. Was glorious.

OkayGo · 19/10/2019 17:52

It was cooked, obviously though 🤦🏻‍♀️

Picklypickles · 19/10/2019 18:09

Soup without bread makes me cry

zukiecat · 19/10/2019 18:22

Bread in soup is lovely!

No butter though as I can't stand it, just dry soft fresh bread

ElizaDee · 19/10/2019 18:22

Soup isn't soup unless it comes with bread & butter.

Bluerussian · 19/10/2019 18:26

You don't have to have bread or croutons with soup if you don't want to. It's all a matter of taste, I like bread or a roll with soup, buttered. I can't see how it is vile, any more than it's vile to not want it.

maddening · 19/10/2019 18:26

I have soup on its own for lunch and soup with bread on the side for dinner, however my bread and soup never meet, they would ruin each other - soggy bread - yuck! Blobs of soggy bread in soup - grim.

phlebasconsidered · 19/10/2019 18:29

Bread in some soups - lush ( tomato, vegetable, carrot, parsnip or squash). For oxtail, mulligatawny or other meaty soups it has to be a scoop of mashed potato. For chicken noodlesoup, an egg.
Very strict rules in my house

DontCallMeShitley · 19/10/2019 18:38

Bread in tomato soup only. Soft sliced white bread, torn into bits and pushed into the soup to soak.

Not in any other soup and never with butter.

isseywithcats · 19/10/2019 18:39

nice fresh crusty bread with butter dipped in tomato soup is food of the gods but agree with you on croutons cubes of fried bread in the soup no thanks

cunningartificer · 19/10/2019 18:44

Ah no..... proper soft dense granary or rye bread for mulligatawny! Yum.

Catapillarsruletheworld · 19/10/2019 18:45

Soup and bread were made for each other. You’re definitely being unreasonable.

my2bundles · 19/10/2019 19:00

Crusty Bread with loads of butter dunked in soup. If it's tomato soup a cheese sandwich dunked in it and if it's chicken soup it has to be a ham sandwich 😁
