I love the old episodes of this on ITV 3 . They really reel you in - Olivia Colman was really good as the perpetrator in an episode from about 2009 - it's interesting looking at the cast of some of these episodes - it's another series that's attracted a lot of A list actors

The ones with real Barnaby were great. Not so keen on the fake Barnaby.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 19/10/2019 13:18

The only problem with the A-list actors is that you know straight off that the most famous one is the killer Grin

Drabarni · 19/10/2019 13:22

Oh we love both Barnaby now. My dd loves watching them, she's 15 but acts like a little old lady Grin
There were some really dark ones in the original series. I remember one episode with the child murderers, their mum was a psychiatrist iirc.

drudgewithagrudge · 19/10/2019 13:23

Joyce Barnaby did all the murders. Every time she joined a club or choir somebody died.

isseywithcats · 19/10/2019 13:24

same here loving the rewinds but i wouldnt want to live there far too dodgy and life insurance would be sky high

Drabarni · 19/10/2019 13:25

This was my go to website, I know I'm sad. midsomermurders.org/mainepisodeguide.htm

HerBigChance · 19/10/2019 13:25

Yep, Joyce's hobbies were often at the bottom of things.

Charley1988 · 19/10/2019 13:27

Haha love the the middle class smug lifestyle of the Barnaby family Grin

Love JN in both Bergerac and Midsomer.

LadyLanka · 19/10/2019 13:31

I would categorise the Barnaby's as distinctly lower-middle class.
FWIW life insurance rates are based on mortality tables rather then where you live.

cricketballs3 · 19/10/2019 13:39

I'm with you op - have it series linked after catching a couple of old episodes. It's my chill out TV

maras2 · 19/10/2019 13:42

Love the real Tom B but WHF calls a kid Cully?

BobLobLawLLB · 19/10/2019 13:42

Pointless fact: Midsomer Murders filmed an episode at the House house next door where I lived. A few months later the police knocked on my door to see if I had heard anything the night before. The husband had murdered his wife. Very sad.

Wonkybanana · 19/10/2019 13:46

Yup, every time Joyce takes him to some sort of fete (of which there seem to be many in Midsomer), his day out turns into a busman's holiday. Funny how his sidekick, whichever one it is at the time, always seems to be there too.

Or it's Joyce's art/book/knit your own whale club that's involved, or she just happens to know something about the victim/key suspect that gives him a vital clue.

And if there isn't a big star, who as a PP said, is always the murderer, then it's the character you hardly see, who seems to be superfluous to the plot but who turns out through some very convoluted path to have a long standing grievance with the deceased and a hitherto unsuspected connection to all the obvious suspects.

LittleCandle · 19/10/2019 13:48

Just love a Midsomer Murder. We're recording them all and watching our way through them. I think it was brave of Neil Dugeon to take it on after John Nettles had been there so long. We were gutted when Sykes the dog left.

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/10/2019 13:48

There is a Facebook group for Midsomer Fans!
www.facebook.com/groups/OfficialMidsomerGroup/?ref=bookmarks

I'm a member. We love to chat about the actors (and wind up some of the overseas fans who think we all live like they do in Midsomer)!

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/10/2019 13:49

Bugger, didn't realise it had left the end of the link on, can MN edit for me?

AloeVeraLynn · 19/10/2019 13:50

Agreed. I loved that one with a quite young Orlando Bloom in. I really like the older ones more than the recent ones.

Charley1988 · 19/10/2019 13:51

maras2
This might show my dads sense of humour but I was watching it with my dad and asked him. what would happen if they called someone Cully in name of token rough part of our town

DF response: 'there'd be a cull'

We get this on BBCAmerica. I loved it growing up! I always wanted to visit England just to tour Causton. Was sad when I learned it wasn,t a real place. The series is still my netflix "binge watch" late at night with a cup of tea and a strawberry scone.

drudgewithagrudge · 19/10/2019 15:25

She was called Cully after the place they spent their honeymoon and Joyce got knocked up.
Come to think of it , Cully had her fair share of murders so perhaps she and Joyce were a double act.

JemimaTab · 19/10/2019 15:30

I still watch them from time to time, especially the ones with “old” Barnaby. I find Joyce and (especially) Cully incredibly irritating though.

Drabarni · 19/10/2019 15:31

Zaphod

Me and my dd have just joined the group. I sent her the link and I'm probably the best mum award now, Thanks

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 19/10/2019 15:33

Only like the JN version. True fact a woman I used to work with had her front door featured in an episode and got paid £200!

eddiemairswife · 19/10/2019 15:36

I like the new Barnaby, and the fact that his wife has a job, unlike Joyce. Some of the houses are lovely.
