Omg what to do - massive RAT!

Sorry didn't know where to post. I kept hearing squealing noises all evening (thought it was a trapped kitten - live in central London ground floor flat). Look outside, RIGHT outside my back door I look down to the drain and there's a mothetfucking huge ass rat there obviously stuck.
I've tried calling pest control no luck. Husband is away and I'm alone with a baby and freaked out.
Please help!

Was gonna say I hear spades are good but it looks nicely enclosed for the time being. Keep door shut!

gwackywacky · 17/10/2019 21:37

Awww poor little thing! Please try and rescue it!

gwackywacky · 17/10/2019 21:37

Call the council or the fire brigade. Dont let them kill it!!!

BanginChoons · 17/10/2019 21:39

Does that grate come out?

MereDintofPandiculation · 17/10/2019 21:40

Well, if it's stuck it's not going to cause you any problems, so no need to freak out.

Try RSPCA. It's a living creature in distress.

Fettuccinecarbonara · 17/10/2019 21:40

Could you just hook the lid off your drain and leave it off? Could the rat escape then?

If not: pop something into the drain it could climb up. A tiny ladder maybe?

WiddlinDiddlin · 17/10/2019 21:40

Id ;take the cover off and leave it..

Actually, id take the cover off, lever rat out with a stick with a couple of handy lurchers and hounds waiting next to me.

This guy would totes help you with your ratty problem...

I’m blind I can’t see it- put a bucket over it and keep the door shut!!! Shudder

gwackywacky · 17/10/2019 21:43

Yeah that's a good idea @MereDintofPandiculation RSPCA should know what to do

Sarcelle · 17/10/2019 21:44

I can't see a rat???!!!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/10/2019 21:45

pop something into the drain it could climb up. A tiny ladder maybe?

It's not a budgie, FGS ... why not a cuttlefish, a sprig of millet and some tinkly, dangly balls as well? Wink Grin

Just lever the drain cover up and leave it to run, OP; it doesn't want to be your friend and won't ask to share your bed, I promise

gwackywacky · 17/10/2019 21:46

Its probably terrified

HappyHammy · 17/10/2019 21:49

Try and get the grate off. It wont hurt you. It is scared poor thing and rats are just animals.

ColaFreezePop · 17/10/2019 21:50

Just leave it be.

If it wants to escape it will start chewing.

If it does go and find a neighbour. (Who if they like me will work out how to make it decreased)

QueenoftheDay · 17/10/2019 21:51

Nope. Nope. Nope.

EdWinchester · 17/10/2019 21:51

Take the grid off. You can't let it suffer.

cleanandclear · 17/10/2019 21:53

Presumably it's snuck up the soak away so it could go back unless it's too flooded. If you can easily lift the grate dl that and run so it can escape, the soak away will probably drain overnight so it will then be able to go back down the way it came. RSPCA will do nothing! They didn't come out to an injured grey squirrel I had as it was vermin, so they'd laugh at a rat!!

EmmiJay · 17/10/2019 21:56

RSPCA won't save a flippin rat. If you call pest control they'll most likely kill it. But you're way braver than me if you open that thing up😂

ColaFreezePop · 17/10/2019 21:58

Do not touch the grid

Whitejasmine · 17/10/2019 22:01

AS IF I would be flipping up that feckin’ grid, little bleeder might take your finger off! I’d just leave it we’ll alone, rats carry diseases beurghh!

Amimissingsomethinghere · 17/10/2019 22:02

Guys there's no way I'm bloody opening the grid. People saying it's an innocent animal. We consider rats vermin in London. They are not pets or cute but something to fear and avoid at all costs!!!
It keeps squealing it's awful. I have pest control calling me back and hopefully they can get rid of it. I need it gone before I sleep. Oh god

Never knew rats could squeal so loudly. I thought it was a kitten!!

longtimelurkerhelen · 17/10/2019 22:03

Jut pull the grate off and leave it to it's own devices, just make sure you shut the door before you do it so it doesn't run into your house in it's panic. Poor thing.

GuessWhoColeen · 17/10/2019 22:05

Get your wellies on & get the grate open one end at least.
