Omg what to do - massive RAT!

Sorry didn't know where to post. I kept hearing squealing noises all evening (thought it was a trapped kitten - live in central London ground floor flat). Look outside, RIGHT outside my back door I look down to the drain and there's a mothetfucking huge ass rat there obviously stuck.
I've tried calling pest control no luck. Husband is away and I'm alone with a baby and freaked out.
Please help!

I love rats. 🐀

I’m glad it ran off.

myolivetree · 17/10/2019 23:17

Irrational fear of rats and mice here. Could not lift that grate up. Let alone step outside that door. I couldn't LOOK at that rat video.

Just Marvel at you robust and brave MN ers. striding out with your socks over your trousers wielding coat hangers. OMG you are amazeballs!!!!

Id be locking the door and the bathroom door since somebody mentioned about it coming out thru the loo. And on that thought I might have to leave the house and go and stay in a Premier Inn or something.

Op you are superb. Respect due.

Woodlandwitch · 17/10/2019 23:18

Read the book Fermin and you’ll never look at a rat in the same way again

Kyvia · 17/10/2019 23:20

Well done OP!

There’s really nothing to be terrified of though.

EntirelyAnonymised · 17/10/2019 23:20

I have lovely pet rats but I’m not overly fond of wild ones (not a fear thing, a disease thing)

EntirelyAnonymised · 17/10/2019 23:20

Well done for setting it free though.

TrainspottingWelsh · 17/10/2019 23:25

Well done op.

Yellowcar18 · 17/10/2019 23:25

*Ffs just pull the cover off. As suggested by a pp, use a wire coat hanger or bbq tongues or something if you're that bothered.

We have outbuildings and livestock. So I know they're vermin and the population needs to be kept under control. But one poor petrified animal dying slowly and miserably isn't going to make any bloody difference.

And don't pretend leaving an animal to suffer is vermin control, it's just cruelty. Either instantly kill them or release them, not this cuntish attitude to distress because it's 'only' a rat.

Being alone with a baby is a pathetic excuse, it's a small distressed animal, not Charles fucking Manson*

Perfect post

Hecateh · 17/10/2019 23:28

Well done op.
I'm not an animal lover or hater but couldn't leave an animal of any sort in distress. I would have had to find a way to release it or put it out of its misery.

VenusTiger · 17/10/2019 23:30

@MissConductUS 😂😂 love it!

OP, thank you on behalf of all animals mislabelled by humans, for freeing it.

RavenLG · 17/10/2019 23:30

MissConduct... he’s just doing what we’ve all done after a few too many beers Grin

PickAChew · 17/10/2019 23:32

Pizza rat is even more awesome than the field mouse carying leaves twice its size across our garden to line its nest after a storm.

Or it would have been if it hadn't given up. Rats these days...

Amimissingsomethinghere · 17/10/2019 23:32

Thanks everyone for the support!!!!

Sounds so silly but it just really freaked me out. I know they're everywhere in London but I didn't really want to have one right outside my back door like that. It was also HUGE. I mean the size of a small dog / kitten Confused

Osirus · 17/10/2019 23:33

Rats are vermin everywhere, not just London OP.

I am terrified of them too, and have been terrorised by them on quite a few occasions (horses). BUT I would have done whatever I could to free it without a second thought, because I’m not fucking heartless.

Well done for doing the right thing...eventually.

Amimissingsomethinghere · 17/10/2019 23:34

Oh and I did have a swig of whisky...Grin

HappyHammy · 17/10/2019 23:34

Good for you it could have had its leg caught or something and was in pain. It's gone now so you'll both be safe,

MissConductUS · 17/10/2019 23:38

Pizza rat is even more awesome than the field mouse carying leaves twice its size across our garden to line its nest after a storm.

Pizza Rat is a true New Yorker - gutsy, bold and a bit of a CF! And trying to get his dinner home on the tube, which is both cheaper and better for the planet than taking a taxi.

We honor Pizza Rat's courageous spirit here. Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/10/2019 23:38

Most of us don't own wellies. Just thought that was important to mention

You see, this is what's wrong with the world - all these sudden domestic crises and people just aren't prepared. This isn't how we escaped from the oceans, you know; it's not how we came down from the trees

However if you've not got wellies you've not and now it's in the drain

How about a suit or armour? At least all that clanking might scare it away ... Wink

LonginesPrime · 17/10/2019 23:39

"Plenty of people I know have raised wild rats"

Erm you and I clearly move in different circles

GrinGrinGrin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/10/2019 23:47

Oh and I did have a swig of whisky

You mean you didn't share??

Oh, well now you're just being cruel Wink

Omg what to do - massive RAT!
Happinessforever · 17/10/2019 23:53

So thought it was in the kitchen

SueCataholic · 18/10/2019 00:32

Britain has millions of rats -- what's special about this on?

You people don't know much about your own history, do you? Look up the Great Plague of London. The rat fleas killed so many people that they just stacked the dead people's bodies against the walls until someone could cart them off.

Bleeding hearts are people who can't think things through to a logical conclusion. Just pick up any rat you find and take it home. Feed it your garbage-- they love that! And if you die from rar-caused diaease, well, that's how it goes.

Breathlessness · 18/10/2019 00:38

Most non sociopaths can’t bear to hear a creature crying in distress?

Kyvia · 18/10/2019 00:47

Hmm lol at the idea that all rats should forever be left in distress because of plague 400 years ago. I mean I’m pretty sure humans have caused more suffering - intentionally - than rats ever did, perhaps we should not bother helping humans in distress either.

It’s not bleeding heart to lift up a grate to release trapped wildlife. It’s just being humane.

puppyconfetti · 18/10/2019 00:47

Rats live in drains. I wouldn't waste your money on pest control.
