As yet, still waiting for B to pay the remaining £11.

Whilst I don’t think B has had the dressing down some assume she has had, I do think she probably tried to claim she was being bullied or unfairly excluded. However, she has no grounds for this as a) she’s always been included - all the OP has done is asked to be paid; and b) the OP has asked everyone to pay up front from now on, so has not singled B out in any way.

OP - although it’s a shame B has ruined it, I personally would stop the lunches now. If, for example, someone forgot their cash one week or asked you for a sub, she could well pipe up moaning about how she was publicly accused of not paying you in the same situation.

ReanimatedSGB · 15/10/2019 17:17

I bet that, come Friday, she will ostentatiously bring in a PackedLunch (which will be something very dull like crispbread and a boiled egg) and very ostentatiously eat it at her desk.

(And if it's a boiled egg, the cheeky mare will then fart, lethally, all afternoon).

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 15/10/2019 17:19

If, for example, someone forgot their cash one week or asked you for a sub, she could well pipe up moaning about how she was publicly accused of not paying you in the same situation.

But she was known to be guilty of it - and not just for one week but for 6 weeks or so. And for getting nasty and bullying about it. Surely, it's like workplace lottery syndicates - if people genuinely forget or are on holiday then plenty of places will allow them to pay very shortly after. However, once people know the people who never pay at all unless there's been a significant win, in which case they scurry over the next day full of apologies and oddly eager to get 'up to date' with what they owe....

What a strange thing to say yes. I call out racism where I see it like everyone else does. Usually on different types of threads to this one.
I can see here that a lot of people haven't realised and were innocently laughing a lot. Think of derogatory, racist terms given to Chinese people. Then think of certain stereotypes. Come to a conclusion.

ReanimatedSGB · 15/10/2019 17:30

Oh, and I don't think anyone at all has been saying 'chong a dong' with the slightest racist intention. Everyone's taken the phrase to mean 'eat a dick' with no other connotations; 'dong' is a well-known euphemism for penis and I (being an old fart) would have, admittedly vaguely, taken the use of 'chong' as a synonym for 'eat' as deriving from the old stoner comics Cheech and Chong.

Sagradafamiliar · 15/10/2019 17:34

I think that's the case but I'm pointing it out.

yestoextinction · 15/10/2019 17:34

The only racism here is reading 'Chong' and immediately thinking of Chinese people.

Not everything is racist. Not everything has to be a virtue signal.

Sagradafamiliar · 15/10/2019 17:36

Classic 🤣 got to love that old chestnut.
I'm not even the only one who has said it. It was ignored when pointed out much earlier in the thread.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/10/2019 17:44

I agree. I rather liked the phrase just because it was nonsensical and it rhymed . . .

A bit like ding-a-ling

And okey-dokey, pig in a pokey

I think some people see things that aren't intended.

Sagradafamiliar · 15/10/2019 17:46

The 'you're the real racist because you immediately thought of...' line is so, so old. We see it all the time on here, on different threads.
The people who say this are usually.....racists.
Call it dog-whistle racism. It still is.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 15/10/2019 17:46

Well no, there were 2 screenshots posted either on this or the previous thread from urban dictionary (I think?) one stated a Chong dong was a huge penis. The other stated it was a small Asian penis. So it’s not a case of PP just deciding Chong sounded Chinese. There is an accepted meaning of Chong dong having a racial association.

However I don’t think it was used in that context on these threads. The original phrase used was “go chong a dong”. To my ear “chong” sounds like chomp so I took it to mean “eat”. It didn’t occur to me there was a racial connection to the word “chong” until I saw the screenshot.

Sagradafamiliar · 15/10/2019 17:48

It was absolutely used in a different context. As a verb. But it does come from a racist slur.

steff13 · 15/10/2019 17:53

It's a stereotype that Asian men are not particularly well-endowed. So that's where my mind immediately went, because there was an awful racist rhyme that was actually way before my time that went "ching chong China man." So, chong + dong...

That stereotype may just be an American one, but the first time I ever heard it was from Craig Charles, who is British.

Inthenewsagain · 15/10/2019 18:02

Jeez this has turned weird

Hullygully · 15/10/2019 18:41

It could have been worse. It could have been Ring-a-ding-a-ding-dong.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/10/2019 19:05

Well the internet says Chong a dong means small Chinese penis, so yes, racist.

Oh well if the INTERNET says so... Hmm
Personally I didn't think anything past the fact it rhymed in a silly way.

MN is such a priggish place sometimes - accusing people of racist behaviour on the basis of an (as far as most people thought) made-up bit of doggerel.

Sheld0r · 15/10/2019 19:22

Well this has taken quite a turn. I didn't see it as a racist comment. I thought it meant 'eat a dick'. After a quick urban dictionary search it brought up a definition that seem to fit the context (none of definitions referred to any racially insults).

  1. To wordchong/word iss to consumee rapidly. Chongss_ - to consume rapidly - verb.

I take "chong a dong" as 'eat a dick rapidly" with that definition.

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 15/10/2019 19:24

Well the internet says Chong a dong means small Chinese penis, so yes, racist.

Nope. It says Chong dong. Without the a. The a, to me anyway, gives it a completely different meaning.

Chong

Abbreviation, Verb.

Abbr. choke the dong

To squeeze the head of the penis very
hard, esp as a part of masturbation.
Tim was having a great time whilst Alice gave him a chong.

.....a dong, aka a cock.

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 15/10/2019 19:25

Doggerel! That sounds like dog grill! You animal abuser!

ChanChanChan · 15/10/2019 19:37

"MN is such a priggish place sometimes" Hmm

But isn't this how awareness is raised? When it's brought to our attention that some words/phrases have negative or racist connotations, despite having no racist intent by the user, that's when we should step out of our own lives and see the racism?

Just because I previously didn't know, might be a justification. But going forward, it's not a phrase I'll use because in that context it is racist.

OP thanks for all the non racist laughs on this thread and glad you've got it sorted. Fingers crossed for Friday.

MadeForThis · 15/10/2019 19:44

@ChanChanChan Your username is racist

RandomAmanda · 15/10/2019 19:59

If you consider 'chong a dong' to be alluding to a racist assumption that Chinese men have liliputian genitals then MadameBs original (now deleted) rant doesn't make sense. It would convey 'You can just go little Asian penis you lil charmer you'. Confused Not that MadamBs post was the pinnacle of coherence BUT I do think 'You can just go eat a dick you lil charmer you' is the more likely interpretation.

'You can just go Chinese men have small willies you lil charmer you'
or
'You can just go consume a prick you lil charmer you'

Teensruletheroost · 15/10/2019 20:04

ChanChanChan Your username is racist

How can you categorically say that? What if her name is Chantal?? (which was my assumption). Is she not allowed to use it?
