I think either she or HR are Mumsnet users!! Great result!

@Witchinaditch

"I find it so bizarre that she didn’t have internet banking... I don’t think that’s true and it usually takes more than a day to set up online banking for the first time (I just got a new phone and had to re set everything up was a nightmare)"
I recently set up internet banking with NatWest and it took me 5-10 minutes (but then a few days to receive my card reader). Not everyone uses it as an app on a smart phone. They might use it on a tablet or a laptop or desktop computer and it's set up really quickly. Even on a phone it just takes a couple of minutes to download the app.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 15/10/2019 10:42

I think HR have probably had a word with her about paying the OP back. She's clearly in the wrong and hopefully HR have put her straight.

HEMammajamma · 15/10/2019 10:51

Awww it's like the season finale of a really interesting show! What on earth am I going to watch now ffs?!

Yes, someone's real life is definitely comparable to a TV show. Christ.

Confused

This has gone weird.

WellardAvocado · 15/10/2019 11:18

I feel vaguely disappointed. Pleased for the OP though, obviously!

WitchDancer · 15/10/2019 11:19

Happy days, she's paid. Hopefully that's the end of the issue but I suspect it won't be. I admire your handling of this Amelia!

Doneanddone · 15/10/2019 11:19

Genius. I’m crying.

YobaOljazUwaque · 15/10/2019 11:25

Surely it's not actually over until she pays up-front for the next meal? Or is there never to be another shared meal to avoid such things arising?

Drum2018 · 15/10/2019 11:25

Don't drink the tea. She may well have spit in it.

custardbear · 15/10/2019 11:28

I'll bet HR made Some Sort of comment! Noncommittal I'm sure and subtle - why else would she only pay last month then say ok after Speaking to HR

Witchinaditch · 15/10/2019 11:34

@Idontwanttotalk no it doesn’t not for the very first time if you’ve had no internet banking before, most banks (if not all) want to send you out something. It only takes a few mins to download the app if you have already signed up to internet banking. Which she claimed she did not have. It’s a massive security issue otherwise. I’ve had internet banking for years and hadn’t the apps on old phones and it still took a while with my banks (not NatWest!) as they went through security protocol.

Sparklfairy · 15/10/2019 11:56

Idontwanttotalk Barclays was an arse to set up on my new phone. Had to go to a Barclays cashpoint and put in a code. Really out of my way and inconvenient and still took 15 mins of faffing standing in the high street like a moron. I have a NatWest account too and that was super simple. Doesn't mean I believe that CF didn't have online banking until now. Miraculous really that she put such time and effort into getting it sorted in a day when she had previously been so dismissive Hmm

highheelsandbobblehats · 15/10/2019 12:00

I agree that HR emailed her yesterday asking her to come in to see them as soon as she arrived and they told her to sort it out. The cheerfulness was a mask, as was her response to you. If she sorted her internet banking yesterday, then she could have sent you the money then, and if she intended to give it to you today, she would have brought in the cash and given it straight to you as soon as she came in. She had no intention of paying you today, until HR pulled her up on it.

Have you decided what you will do about Friday Lunch Club going forward?

giantwatermelon · 15/10/2019 12:02

I think @MadameButterface is B Hmm

I'm totally over invested in this post.

I don't have Internet banking... But I do have PayPal! There are always ways and means...
So next chapter... What are you doing about this Friday? 🙂

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 15/10/2019 12:46

Well I'm glad you've got your money back and yes, I also think HR might have had a Word In Her Ear about sorting this ridiculous situation out.

I still wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her though - who knows what she said in with HR!

cstaff · 15/10/2019 12:49

It's not really to do with internet banking though as up until now she just paid in cash and that wasn't a problem until she didn't. Definitely HR have spoken to her, hence the happy (put on) face this morning.
