To ask for your pictures of washing machines?

I have a three year old autistic DS who is in love with washing machines. He loves looking at photographs of them, and often my friends will send me pictures of theirs so that he can get a good fix. He particularly likes talking about the brands and the number of kg the washing machine can hold

I'm starting a new job with longer hours today, so it will be a hard transition for him. Some washing machine pictures would cheer him up I'm sure! Google is fine for images but this would make it a little more personal.

So: would it BU of me to ask for pictures of your washing machines?

Here is mine - 7 kilo load. Floor looks odd because it's in the garage. We painted the floor years ago but it keeps flaking off so we've given up.

This isn’t great quality as it’s zoomed in from a wider photo of the mid-renovation utility room (I’m on a coach so can’t take a photo, but the search facility on an iPhone will bring up pictures including a washing machine!)

It’s a Bosch and is generally very good, although a few weeks ago it failed to spin our bedding.

I don’t know if tumble driers are also of interest. It’s on top of the washer. It had a funny turn after the water failed to spin - like an idiot I put a sopping wet set of bedding in it, and it refused to work for about a week.

What iOS photo search also thinks is a washing machine - the top of my kitchen bin!

That outdoor laundrette thingy is brilliant. And pretty cheap too. In the scheme of launderettes anyway. I keep having to lug a huge blanket to my local launderette because it's too big for my large washer and it costs £15 to wash and dry it. I dread the place closing cos the next nearest is bloody miles away.

@DontCallMeBaby exactly that. I thought it was a bit of a gimmick tbh but surprising how much I use it.

We have just had the best time going through all of these pictures (again...for about the 20th time!!). I'm so grateful to you all, this has honestly had me in tears so many times over the last 48 hours. Must be the effect of all of your kindnesses and the bloody new job on top

You might find this interesting. The laundry rooms at Disney World hotels ( and lots of other places but this is where I have use it) are linked to Laundry View, so you can sit by the pool with a cocktail and check the website to see when your machine (washer or dryer) has finished.

Sampson the Samsung. My daughter loves the song he sings when he is finished.

ps: - tell him from me it's the most important appliance in the house. I use it almost every day because I've got four big boys and they make lots of washing.

Here's mine. Your DS sounds adorable. I have 2 DS's with autism and DS1 was obsessed with satellite dishes at that age. DS2 still loves sitting in front of the washing machine and he's 12. I think it's the white noise that soothes him.

Here's another to add to the mix. It was new in July this year, 2 days before a holiday when a 15 year old Zanussi gave up forever. An unknown make to me but so far so good!

I am loving the idea of outdoor launderettes, especially ones by the pub/pool. Who knew?!

I'm also amazed by the number of washers that have names. Ours does too ("Amy", courtesy of DS). Glad to know we're not the only barmy ones!!

DS loves to put owners' names to washing machines, so we've had a lot of fun tonight with your MN usernames. This is why Google just isn't the same; it's the personal touch that he has been enjoying so much!
