To ask class teacher who went in my childs bag?

SamAntHaHa · 09/10/2019 14:09

Something has been taken from my childs bag. It is not valuable and I won't get it back because it's a single use item for personal use.
I don't mind it being used by others but it's unsettling for things to be taken and not be informed by staff or my childs friends if one of them decided they wanted to take it. It feels like something being stolen from their bag since someone went in there without permission and took what they wanted when the bag was in the classroom with everyone elses bags.
AIBU to ask staff who went in my childs bag?
And then to ask the person apologise for taking it from my childs bag without mentioning it since it is stealing?

Ok so this was a convoluted thread. And I do agree teachers don't have eyes in the back of their heads...
But I do agree with you.
Ultimately a child went into your child's bag and took something that didn't belong to them.
It doesn't matter the value or the insignificance of the dressing.
I would say to the teacher it should be highlighted to the children that 'something' has gone missing from 'someone's' bag and that it's dishonest

FredaFrogspawn · 09/10/2019 16:56

It does sound like the previous incident should have been taken more seriously.

But the dressing thing is fairly minor. I doubt the teacher knows who took it but you could have a works with her as her students shouldn’t be poking about in each other’s bags.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/10/2019 16:56

Things get taken from bags. It happens. Maybe a child got curious. It happens. The beating / kicking is a different matter and I hope you took that higher.

AlexaAmbidextra · 09/10/2019 16:56

Over 200 messages for a fucking gauze pad? 🙄

Casander · 09/10/2019 16:57

I was hoping it was a fat ball and one of the other children had mistaken it for an artisan scotch egg. How disappointing.

Windydaysuponus · 09/10/2019 16:58

I am fucking disappointed.....

TwoPupsandaHamster · 09/10/2019 17:00

A dressing went missing from the outside of an 8 year olds school bag! Ok then..... 🙊🙈🙉

00100001 · 09/10/2019 17:00

DEFINITELY GO TO THE GOVERNORS WITH THIS!!!

"Dear Board of Governers.

My child, who attends your school in a Year Group that shall not be names had 2 sterile wound dressings in her bag for her personal use. They were in the front of the bag, in a clear pocket for everyone to see.
I sent her off to school with 2 this morning, and upon her return she only had 1. My child says she did not use a dressing.
So either another student took them, or worse, a TEACHER took one. THERE IS NO OTHER EXPLANATION!!!!! Nope none at all. It can't have possibly been a mistake on my part or my child's part. Nor could they have fallen out at any point.
I was not informed of this theft by any teacher which I find incredibly negligent of them. Please investigate this incident, otherwis the police will be informed of this crime. I have pre-empted this and logged the incident with 101. My Reference being N0N53N53.
I look forward to your prompt reply.
Kind regards,
OP.

Windydaysuponus · 09/10/2019 17:01

Maybe the op has been drinking and she is plastered....

SamAntHaHa · 09/10/2019 17:01

@SoundsAboutRight Yeah a fully zipped see through pocket. That was zipped close just like each day. So looking the same each day.
@PineappleLumps I guess this must be what being a troll feels like.
Someone report me or something. Being vague is a crime.

What was the point of that? Seriously. Clearly our love drama op or you’d just say ‘some kid took a gauze pad from my dd’s bag at school’

So whatever happened it was always going to be a big huge kerfuffle about it because you are one of those people that a)loves attention and b)can’t just do anything calmly without a big fuss. Good one!

MustardScreams · 09/10/2019 17:02

Clearly you

Zebraaa · 09/10/2019 17:04

Someone stole pens from my bag as a kid. It happens. Just bought some more 🤷🏼‍♀️

DrVonPatak · 09/10/2019 17:04

A sterile gauze and an OUTSIDE keychain that could have easily fallen off on it's own LAST YEAR.

In the other corner we have a case of one girl being kicked by a gang of boys, where nothing was done because "she gave as good as she got", essentially she dared to self defend.

And you still can't see which of these should have had kicked up a fuss about? I'd be having words with the head, governors and LA if I were you.

Apolloanddaphne · 09/10/2019 17:06

Dear god, what a load of angst over a sterile wound pad! Get a grip OP. And please do not bother the teacher with this.

purplecorkheart · 09/10/2019 17:06

Does your daughter keep anything else in that section of her bag?

Ellisandra · 09/10/2019 17:08

“It’s that difficult thing”.

No, again - just like you saying in your OP that something feels like stealing - this isn’t difficult. Another child has stolen a plaster from your child’s bag.

There was no need to create a drama over not just SAYING what it was. Don’t you see that had it been a tampon, responses might have been different? (still stealing, but what I’d expect school to do would be different - re-iterate no going into bags, but also make everyone knows where they can get sanpro from in school).

Would I report it?
No, not if the sum total of thefts are a key ring and a plaster by age 8. Especially when it was visible on the outside, so possibly a curious child turned thief, rather than a serial bag ransacking.

All of this pales in comparison to the earlier fighting.

Pinkflipflop85 · 09/10/2019 17:08

Your post highlights why we constantly have to tell parents/children not to bring anything in or on their bag that they aren't prepared to potentially lose.

In our school if the dressings had been seen in the bag they would have been removed by a member of staff (school policy).

SamAntHaHa · 09/10/2019 17:08

If I would have thought there was any chance it fell out then I would have assumed it fell out.
But there was no chance it fell out by itself or unattached itself perfectly from the other pad and put the remaining one back in the other way round so it then stuck out as it made her bag look different. Which is why i wondered if another kid needed one.
She has them because the school had a lack of dressings - they really did! So she takes them in her bag. I think the school ran out. So many times i've been told "the first aid had run out".
I'm going to give her a big box and send her to set up her own first aid stall and give her something to do at breaktime.

If I put several gauze pads in my 8 year old's bag without a doubt at least one of them would end up being part if an impromptu craft project at some point during the day.

If the gauze had a sticky backing like a plaster it would almost certainly have been decorated in felt tip pen and used to adorn a pencil case, lunch box, book etc or something similar. What it wouldn't get used for is actually covering a wound.

Perhaps that's just my 8 year old though. 😂

RedskyLastNight · 09/10/2019 17:16

I don't think you've said how old your DD is OP. Is she 8, as other posters have suggested? I know not the point you are making, but if she is 8, it would really be more appropriate to give the dressings to the teacher than let the 8 year old keep them in their bag. Primary school children are generally discouraged from bringing anything non-essential to school as things do tend to go missing/get mislaid/are stolen.

FizzyIce · 09/10/2019 17:16

Holy Christ ....

Mrsfrumble · 09/10/2019 17:17

Sounds like my 6 year Lindy. Once used an entire pack of Elastoplast making a contraption to house her Sylvanians because she couldn’t find any sellotape Grin

FindusCrispyPancakes · 09/10/2019 17:17

10 pages to find out a kid (maybe) stole a plaster out your kid's bag... 10 PAGES!!! My god!!!

Lunde · 09/10/2019 17:18

So it was a plaster/dressing? Hmm
