To re-heat 4 day old takeaway?

I'd just like a quick poll on whether IABU or not because I really fancy popping the leftover Chinese food in the oven that we ordered on Friday. I normally have a cast iron stomach so I'd have no problem but DH is less keen.
Opinions welcome Smile

I feel ill reading this. Food safety should be taught in school then maybe disgusting things like this wouldn't happen.

🤮🤮🤮

pigsDOfly · 08/10/2019 23:11

I genuinely don't understand why anyone would eat something that could potentially make them very, very ill?

I don't get takeaways, and I know my own hygiene standards in the kitchen are good, but I wouldn't eat something I'd prepared myself if it had been in the fridge for four days.

It's not a sign of weakness to refuse to eat half rotten warmed over food.

ChickenyChick · 08/10/2019 23:11

Ah no! What have you done OP?! Grin

Just need to put this here, so people know:

Refrigeration only sliws down bacterial and fungal growth, it does not stop it. A fridge is not a time machine Wink

Secondly, food poisoning can be caused by bacteria, and bacteria can be killed by heating.... BUT bacteria also release toxins, these toxins can make you very sick. The toxins are NOT killed by reheating

OP if you get sick within hours, it’s toxins. If you get sick in the next few days, it was bacteria

NightOwl27 · 08/10/2019 23:13

Isn't the whole meal prep movement based on keeping food in a fridge for a week and reheating it every night? I've definitely seen meal prep videos containing fish, chicken and rice.

Though having said that, I'm going to be checking this thread often tomorrow just out of morbid curiosity!!

StarBubbles · 08/10/2019 23:13

Good luck OP. Personally I think you'll be fine.

Reheated food after longer than four days myself, but not takeaways (I don't get them a lot - too poor lol.)

Notgoodatchoosingnames · 08/10/2019 23:14

I would too 😂

ChickenyChick · 08/10/2019 23:14

Rice has special bacteria that survive heating!

GruciusMalfoy · 08/10/2019 23:17

I'm pretty lax with this sort of thing, but this sounds mental.

Bellasblankexpression · 08/10/2019 23:19

I’m confused about the rice thing too as a pp has said there are loads of food prep videos which involve making rice dishes and keeping them for the week?
I’ve only ever eaten it cold the next day but now I’m thinking I shouldn’t even be doing that?!

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 08/10/2019 23:20

I love you for this post OP. Extra for the use of "ninny"!

GruciusMalfoy · 08/10/2019 23:22

What sort of food prep videos? If it's those viral videos you see on FB or youtube I don't trust half of them. Some of the tips are dangerous.

Wheninfrome · 08/10/2019 23:22

Update!
Feeling good!

Profuse apologies to those on this thread who are repulsed by my munching on archaic leftovers

Nice try, Op. We all know you've died and are now communicating with us from special fried rice hell.

ShagMeRiggins · 08/10/2019 23:29

I totally would. Still alive.

chuckeeee · 08/10/2019 23:31

🤮

poopooquichoo · 08/10/2019 23:32

Sorry OP but vile - you're not meant to reheat rice once and it's kindof vile to reheat food 4 day old food - not form me yak! x

ElizaDee · 08/10/2019 23:33

Latest I'd eat Friday takeaway leftovers is Sunday.

Schuyler · 08/10/2019 23:33

I really hope you don’t die, you seem nice and also funny.
You might get the shits though but I hope you don’t.
Did it really taste nice after 4 days?

RainbowHash · 08/10/2019 23:34

Brilliant thread! Would be a dilemma for me but I'm impressed op!

taytosandwich · 08/10/2019 23:36

'🙏 for you op - may your stomach remain intact!'

May your arsehole remain intact more like Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 08/10/2019 23:37

Food safety should be taught in school then maybe disgusting things like this wouldn't happen.

What has happened, exactly? OP and her husband ate some properly stored food, enjoyed it, haven’t died. News at Eleven...Hmm

Wallabyone · 08/10/2019 23:40

@leghairdontcare 😂😂😂

converseandjeans · 08/10/2019 23:41

I think you'll be ill tomorrow - pretty sure it takes more than a couple of hours to make you unwell if you have eaten food that is off. Fingers crossed you'll be OK. Don't think I would eat chinese more than 24 hours after ordering. As others have said it's likely reheated when it's delivered/collected. Good luck!

MaryPopppins · 08/10/2019 23:42

Shamelessly place marking here so if in 48 hours you're crying from the bathroom floor and update that I can check you recover!

I have a 1 day takeaway limit and only if there's no shell/fish.

1forAll74 · 08/10/2019 23:48

I would eat 3 or 4 day old food, if It was my own leftover stuff, but I never have take away's at all,as they sometimes are a bit suspect.
