I have over 20 mugs and only like drinking out of two of them

I like nice round mugs not coffee mugs, no dark colours inside and no matt textures. No fancy shapes and no silly handles. I don’t know how we have so many that I don’t like.

Wilko!

Hassled · 07/10/2019 20:56

You need a cull. Just charity-shop the duds.
Actually I need a cull - I have 3 or 4 favourites and the rest are all too big/too ugly/too thick/dark on the inside/something else I've randomly decided I don't like in a mug.

Poor unloved mugs, give them to a good home so they can see out their days warmed by the love of good tea Brew

SamBeckettslastleap · 07/10/2019 21:00

I have the same problem, however I do need a different mug for tea and coffee. I especially hate Easter egg mugs but can't seem to get rid of them.

123rd · 07/10/2019 21:02

Our office is always on the look out for unloved mugs... couldYou take yours to work?

Wolfiefan · 07/10/2019 21:03

You have to have some mugs that you won’t drink out of so you can give them to visitors. Imagine if they broke one of the two you liked! Shock

Oysterbabe · 07/10/2019 21:05

Same story here. We have a few which I actively hate and I always make DH drinks in those ones.

I like fine china, not jam jars. We have a ridiculous number, but the nasty ones never break!

nopenotplaying · 07/10/2019 21:07

I love a thin rim. Nothing chunky. My family find this hilarious 😂

LazyFace · 07/10/2019 21:07

I use most of mine. Some are better for tea, some for a sugarless coffee, some for mochas and one for hot chocolate. I couldn't do a cull.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 07/10/2019 21:08

I thought this was how literally everyone lived?!

My big dilemma is whether to take a 'good' mug to use at work. It risks getting broken or stolen - a dire thing for an item so precious - but at the moment I'm drinking out of some crap mug I found in the cupboard at work and it makes me day slightly worse than it need be three times a day.

Sooverthemill · 07/10/2019 21:08

Me too! I have one I use for first cuppa of the day, my mid morning coffee cup, a back up mid morning coffee cup ( if I need a second cup) and my afternoon tea mug. The ones I don't much like I use for builders, the window cleaner etc as I won't be sad if they break them. I cannot drink out of a mug that isn't white inside. I cannot drink out of a chunky mug. Loathe mugs with slogans or adverts for companies. I know I'm mad. My family tells me

StroppyWoman · 07/10/2019 21:09

We tried to have a cull of our zillion mugs. Pulled them all out, asked everyone to put the mugs they used back in the cupboard and those inloved ones would got to the charity shop/bin.

Didn't work. Of the 5 of us, we each liked different mugs.

Pagwatch · 07/10/2019 21:09

My husband bought mugs once

Wanker

Wolfiefan · 07/10/2019 21:10

@Pagwatch LTB. Seriously. What WAS he thinking? Shock

humblebumblebees · 07/10/2019 21:15

I'm a potter. Please can we have pics of your perfect mugs (for research purposes).GrinBrew

Pagwatch · 07/10/2019 21:16

God knows

They’re terrible. He’s away this week. I’m binning then. He bought them IN A BOX - hadn’t picked them up, held them, tried the handle or anything.

Kirbs1979 · 07/10/2019 21:16

Mine multiply, I seem to get bought a new one every christmas from at least one family member to go with the coffee or hot chocolate they've bought me.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 07/10/2019 21:18

YANBU. I'm the same. I have the perfect mug for coffee and the perfect China cup for tea (it's from Home Bargains so isn't exactly posh, but it does the job!)

Oysterbabe · 07/10/2019 21:18

I quite like chunky mugs. I can't stand V-shaped ones for some reason.

Maidsamilking · 07/10/2019 21:19

I love a mug. I seem to have mug 'pairs' that I use when having a hot drink with DH. They don't match but seem to have equal 'mugginess'
I agree to different mugs for visitors. They can't be tainting the real mugs. No that wouldn't do at all.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 07/10/2019 21:21

Oh my gosh, excellent suggestion. I'm going to donate my unused cups and mugs to work.

It's a daily battle, cup wars. I take cheap ones in and get to keep hold of it but the night staff are buggers and keep stealing them. I even bought one that was red inside, thinking it would put people off (I don't like cups that have colour inside) but that went within the week.

IdentifyasTired · 07/10/2019 21:22

Life is too short to drink out of mugs you hate. Seriously.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 07/10/2019 21:22

Does anyone watch Gogglebox? The siblings from Blackpool use quirky shaped mugs. It gives me the silent rage.
