Light hearted ....

Several of my friends are having macaroni cheese on a roast dinner..... is this the norm? Plastered all over social media.

I have heard of cauliflower cheese but never ever heard of macaroni cheese! I'm actually horrified and it looks disgusting! 😂

That sounds totally bizarre to me Envy
And cauliflower cheese is only acceptable with roast ham not anything else!

PrettyShiningPeople · 06/10/2019 17:22

I saw somewhere advertising macaroni cheese as a burger topping Confused it’s a new one on me.
I guess it’s like a cauliflower cheese & bread sauce hybrid.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 06/10/2019 17:22

Is this not an American thing? They have macaroni cheese as a side dish.

MrsCasares · 06/10/2019 17:22

Totally agree. Cheese should not be on any roast dinner.

Stravapalava · 06/10/2019 17:22

This is not a roast dinner side.

HTH. Grin

Rachelover60 · 06/10/2019 17:23

I don't know about on a roast dinner but it is common for West Indian people to have mac cheese with a roast dinner, especially Christmas turkey dinner.

I eat cauliflower cheese with anything.

Windyone · 06/10/2019 17:23

Yes I think its an American thing that has made it to the UK

NeedAnExpert · 06/10/2019 17:25

Toby Carvery added it to their regular line up. Envy

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 06/10/2019 17:25

Every time we've been to Toby Carvery they've had macaroni cheese in a dish sitting alongside the veg dishes Confused

DieCryHate · 06/10/2019 17:25

Not my cup of tea but would cook it if my guests wanted it. I find cauliflower cheese a bit unnecessary if I'm honest, but friends and family like it so I'll do that begrudgingly.

lyralalala · 06/10/2019 17:25

I was in an American diner place yesterday that had macaroni as a pizza topping

Biancadelrioisback · 06/10/2019 17:26

Macaroni cheese is amazing with everything

Carrie7899 · 06/10/2019 17:27

It sounds revolting

FunOnTheBeach20 · 06/10/2019 17:28

It seems to be considered a side to absolutely anything now.

It’s grim!

Moominfan · 06/10/2019 17:28

Pretty standard Jamaican Sunday lunch

ChilliMayo · 06/10/2019 17:28

I think it is usually on the table at photos of my USA family's Thanksgiving dinner. Can't be that traditional as I shouldn't think the Mayflower had a macaroni store on board.
But I suppose it might make a substitute for potato if guests didn't like them. Why anyone would dislike roast potatoes is beyond my ken.....

MummytoCSJH · 06/10/2019 17:28

Macaroni cheese is lovely but not on a roast dinner!

ElizaDee · 06/10/2019 17:28

I'd never heard of cauliflower cheese on a toast until I met DH.

I've made and served it but personally, I don't think cheesy sauce goes with gravy.

VeganVeganVegan · 06/10/2019 17:29

My husbands roast dinner as a child featured potato croquettes and cauliflower with a processed cheese slice on top Confused

ElizaDee · 06/10/2019 17:29

*roast

AfterSomeAdvice1234 · 06/10/2019 17:30

Urgh. No. Wrong.

Catapillarsruletheworld · 06/10/2019 17:30

Toby carvery has it as a side. My vegetarian dd1 was thrilled. Have to say, it went pretty well with my roast.

Wonkybanana · 06/10/2019 17:31

Ever since it started being known as mac 'n' cheese it seems to be everywhere!

Schuyler · 06/10/2019 17:33

YABU, macaroni cheese goes with everything! Grin

Queenoftheashes · 06/10/2019 17:34

Had this as a side with my Hawksmoor roast last weekend. The Kensington restaurant doesn’t do cauliflower cheese for some reason. Both work but I’ve only gone for macaroni in the absence of cauliflower cheese.
On a slight tangent I recently heard about macaroni pies which are apparently amazing.
