To think this is grabby and genius? Wedding request related

sweetmotherog · 06/10/2019 13:45

I've been sent an invitation to a wedding and they say

"Instead of bits and bobs, give a few bob. A scratchcard (or two) will suffice. But if we're a winner, call us a. You won't see the prize, just fancy new teeth and a pug called Keith"

I think it's brilliant Grin

Will be going with £30 worth of scratch cards.

I wouldn't buy scratch cards as a gift, seems like a big waste of money as the chance of winning anything is so low. I would rather give them £30 cash.

Wheniwasjustalittle · 06/10/2019 13:47

That doesn't even make sense.

BeanBag7 · 06/10/2019 13:47

Also I dont understand "if we're a winner, call us a"

DanielRicciardosSmile · 06/10/2019 13:48

If they're a winner, call them a what?

fedup21 · 06/10/2019 13:48

That doesn’t make any sense?

WorraLiberty · 06/10/2019 13:48

Totally confuddled Confused

IfIKnewThenWhatIKnowNow · 06/10/2019 13:49

Love that idea though!!!

sweetmotherog · 06/10/2019 13:50

Sorry, it says "call us a sinner

OP posts:
CareBear50 · 06/10/2019 13:51

Sorry. I think it's tacky

Biker47 · 06/10/2019 13:54

Stick £2.50 in their card, say you scratched them for them and that was all that was won.

BlackRibboner · 06/10/2019 13:55

I don't like buying scratchcards for people - would be too put out if they won! Blush Don't think it's any grabbier than asking for cash/honeymoon funds/gift list though, it's all the same principle.

skunkatanka · 06/10/2019 13:55

Genius it ain't OP. That poem is dreadful!

fedup21 · 06/10/2019 13:56

Will be going with £30 worth of scratch cards.

So, you pay £30 on scratch cards and they could end up with £0?

Why not just give them a cheque?!

I was given a lotto ticket off my brother and I won a tenner.
Anything goes for me.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 06/10/2019 13:59

I don’t think it’s grabby OR genius. It’s just a bit silly.

sweetmotherog · 06/10/2019 13:59

Well, the senders of this invitation most likely aren't aiming for a classy look so I'll let them off!

I suppose I could just put cash in a card but this does seem fun.

Not sure if they're scratch card addicts, I don't think so

OP posts:
GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 06/10/2019 13:59

Are they gamblers ?
I like the odd scratchcard but not sure about getting hundreds for a wedding gift?! Like how tired would your fingers get from scratching ?Blush

WorraLiberty · 06/10/2019 13:59

Instead of bits and bobs, give a few bob.
A scratchcard (or two) will suffice.
But if we're a winner, call us a sinner.
You won't see the prize, just fancy new teeth and a pug called Keith.

Nope, still no better Grin

MoaningMinniee · 06/10/2019 13:59

I like the tongue in cheek poem, it's deliberately awful for a change. But I'd be very annoyed if they bought a pug, whether they call it Keith or not!

sweetmotherog · 06/10/2019 14:01

The aim of their poem would definitely be tongue in cheek.

The bloke is a corporate business owner but a very much 'Jack the lad' type. This poem screams his name

OP posts:
littleorangecat22 · 06/10/2019 14:02

I don't understand the poem and don't like poems asking for money/scratchcards like this in general.

FunOnTheBeach20 · 06/10/2019 14:03

Bit of fun, not for me but I like the sentiment. I’d give them cash and a couple of scratch cards.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 06/10/2019 14:03

Not genius at all. Are they usually gamblers? I’d not buy scratchcards.

littlepaddypaws · 06/10/2019 14:03

he sounds a bit of a wanker to be honest.
