To think this is grabby and genius? Wedding request related

I've been sent an invitation to a wedding and they say

"Instead of bits and bobs, give a few bob. A scratchcard (or two) will suffice. But if we're a winner, call us a. You won't see the prize, just fancy new teeth and a pug called Keith"

I think it's brilliant Grin

Will be going with £30 worth of scratch cards.

I don’t think it’s genius, it’s a bit naff but I suppose it gets the no gifts message across pretty well, perhaps if you know them it makes more sense?

bakesalesally · 06/10/2019 15:12

I'd do as you are, Seems like a daft bit of harmless fun. Why not?

NameChangeNugget · 06/10/2019 15:12

Extremely wanky

Bobthefishermanswife · 06/10/2019 15:15

I think it's quite funny. Although £30 worth of scratch cards is a bit extreme, maybe £10 cards and £20 cash?

DameDoom · 06/10/2019 15:16

What a hoot the poet is. He is on the banter bus for sure. Twats.

PickedByYou · 06/10/2019 15:19

Ohh they are trying to be quirky and non grabby, bit naff and try hard but whatever, it’s not offensive! 🤷🏻‍♀️ It much better than coming across as grabby. 👍🏻

I’d get them a couple of scratch cards and some nice booze (assuming they were drinkers)

Silvercatowner · 06/10/2019 15:21

Scratchcards - meh. The poem is awful. I'd be tiptoeing quietly away from that jolly event.

HillRunner · 06/10/2019 15:22

It's tacky as hell. I'd far rather give a cash gift towards whatever they want to spend it on. Scratchcards is just silly.

MinTheMinx · 06/10/2019 15:28

Is gambling with other people's money as stupid as gambling with your own? I suspect it might be. Give them a fiver and some matches because the end result will be the same.

BlueJava · 06/10/2019 15:30

I'd give them one lottery ticket for the day of their wedding with numbers chosen specially for them (ages/house number/date of wedding etc). And then £30 in the - not the whole lot in scratchcards!

Savingforarainyday · 06/10/2019 15:35

Its refreshing.
Much better than the whole overly precious brigade

BritWifeinUSA · 06/10/2019 15:39

The adults in our family buy each other scratch cards for Christmas. We sit and scratch them together on Christmas Eve and then go out for drinks worth the winnings. It’s just a bit of fun and it could be champagne one year and a glass of lemonade the next. For us it’s better than getting smellies and socks that never get used/aren’t even liked.

Witchinaditch · 06/10/2019 15:40

What a waste of money, sounds extremely tacky.

HJWT · 06/10/2019 15:44

I wouldn't let my DH buy them the scratch card he ALWAYS wins even if its just his money back 😂 be our luck he would give the 4 mil!

BossAssBitch · 06/10/2019 15:44

Tacky AF.

Imagine what the wedding will be like! Grim [grin}

BossAssBitch · 06/10/2019 15:44
Grin

This place needs an edit post button

Spied · 06/10/2019 15:45

Ruff as toast. No thanks geeza

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/10/2019 15:48

Sounds fun

THey May win

They may not

But the guests haven’t spend a fortune on useless tat

Blondes takes note for her wedding next year 😂😂

Ps where in the south east

InsertFunnyUsername · 06/10/2019 15:49

not everyone cares about being classy so that's irrelevant

Agreed, only certain people give a shit what anyone else thinks. Much better than some of the poncey shite I've read on some wedding invites. I dont think I would do it mind, my nanna would have a heart attack and go all "what will the neighbours say" Hmm always been miserable Grin

YouokHun · 06/10/2019 15:50

Asking for money is grabby cheeky fuckery even if you try and cover it up with ‘wit’, in fact I’m not sure it isn’t worse. If you want/expect other people’s cash just say so. You may as well as it’s perfectly obvious what the agenda behind this kind of “lighthearted fun” is. Different if you’ve come to an understanding among friends but it’s presumption to send such a request with an invitation.

Bezalelle · 06/10/2019 15:52

I don't get the part about the pug named Keith.

derxa · 06/10/2019 15:55

I think it's funny. They don't want scratch cards or indeed anything. FFS

Witchinaditch · 06/10/2019 15:55

If the couple win they won’t share their winnings but they will get dental work and a dog called Keith

DimensionalShambler · 06/10/2019 15:55

I’d be embarrassed to know them, personally.
