Love travelling and always looking for recommendations. Where has been your favourite and least favourite holiday you have ever visited and why?
So far my favourite has been the Canadian Rockies - amazing scenery.
Least favourite has been Benidorm - got terrible food poisoning and was a bit too “Brits abroad”

Best Rome, absolutely wonderful. Apart from the terrible graffiti problem.

Worst: Dublin. Such a let down

tillytrotter1 · 07/10/2019 03:37

SW United States, wonderful, a lot of driving but well worth it.

Durgasarrow · 07/10/2019 04:22

I'm surprised at people who didn't like New York. You missed so much! There's an incredible depth of fascinating things to see and experience there every hour of the damn day, and many of them are free or cheap. This makes me suspect that some of these other destinations got their negative ratings at least in part more because of the attitude of the traveler than because there was anything wrong with the place.

LellyMcKelly · 07/10/2019 05:05

Best: Dubrovnik, Mykonos
Worst: a Pontins in Southport booked for a cheap and cheerful trip to Liverpool. I wasn’t expecting the Ritz but it was filthy, disgusting, and the staff treated the guests like zoo animals. Ended up just using it as a crash pad. Never again.

Loving people complaining the hotel THAY THEY PICKED wasn't appropriate for them. Or the weather IN THE MONTH THEY CHOSE TO GO was too hot. And the Costa Brava resorts which have been Brits abroad since at least the early 70s were full of Brits abroad. Or Japan is expensive (ever wondered how come Japanese tourists to the UK have so much cash to splash? No?) Or Egypt and Tunisia have a beggar/creepy men problem. Or it rains in rainy places. Too funny.

I can't say a "worst" holiday but I have no interest in returning to Benidorm (it was already built up and Brits abroad in 1971 when I was there aged 6)

I have no interest at all in visiting Australia, any middle Eastern country until things change regarding women and human rights, China and the US while Trump is still there.

Desperately want to visit Japan, Scandinavia and go back to almost everywhere I've ever been.

Best - Dumfries and Galloway (been several times).

Worst - Isle of Sheppey on a Park Resorts site in World Cup final week.

FizzyIce · 07/10/2019 06:43

Best-LA and Tenerife
Worst-Tunisia and fuerte Ventura

Poetryinaction · 07/10/2019 06:49

Best - Zante, Venice, Santander, Czech Republic, Peru

Worst - Berlin and Munich due to the weather

Appletreehouse · 07/10/2019 07:37

Best Norway, Scotland, Paris, centre parc

Worst Finland in summertime (mosquitos, mundane landscape in the north), Somerset, lake garda (too hot, not as much to explore as we'd expected and limited vegetarian food - shame as was our honeymoon!)

nononever · 07/10/2019 07:37

Glad lots of people are saying Iceland as a fave as I’m off there this week and am not really looking forward to it. It wasn’t my choice and I can’t believe how much everything is going to end up costing us.

Hope you have a fantastic time. I've been three times, twice over Christmas and New Year and once in proper daylight months. Loved it and would go back in a second.

The Maldives is spectacular but you really need to love the water to get the best out of it, not to mention choosing an island with an excellent house reef. It is definitely our favourite destination.

People have said Australia as their worst. It's a bloody huge country to condemn if you only visited one or two places. We were there earlier this year and had a fantastic holiday.

Adreamaday · 07/10/2019 07:46

Best - NYC - so many amazing book shops & museums.

Worst - camping in Devon ( it was not terrible but I prefer cities). Paris was hit and miss though.

CheeseChipsMayo · 07/10/2019 07:54

Funkyslippers · 07/10/2019 07:57

Best: Isle of Wight
Worst: Las Vegas or San Fransisco, but maybe if we'd planned the trip better it would have been ok

HouseworkAvoider10 · 07/10/2019 08:00

Best - Australia, Japan, Berlin, Holland, Seoul
Worst - Munich, Jeju Island, Milan

Doormat247 · 07/10/2019 08:11

Best: Sri Lanka & Costa Rica
Worst: France (on a school trip) - it's the dirtiest shithole I've ever come across.

AliceAbsolum · 07/10/2019 08:20

Best- Mediterranean cruise. Loas. The Lake District.

Worst - Malaysia. Egypt. Stockholm.

MsTSwift · 07/10/2019 08:36

The Canterbury whales that’s a little unfair. I expected some hassle in Egypt but the sheer level of misogynistic abuse was off the scale. Are you saying that women who dare to travel to these countries deserve what they get ? because that’s rather what it sounds like

TheCanterburyWhales · 07/10/2019 09:13

Er, no Obviously. I'm saying that I find it rather incredulous that people going to places well known and documented for hassling women tourists are surprised that women are hassled. And that while that sort of situation persists, I have no desire to visit.
Please don't accuse me of saying such vile things as you infer.

Grumpyperson · 07/10/2019 09:24

Agreed, I just wouldn't go either (also most of these countries are too hot for me anyway).

QueenAnneBoleyn · 07/10/2019 09:33

Best: Maldives. Stunningly beautiful.

Worst: Cornwall. Run down, tacky and vastly overrated.

TheVanguardSix · 07/10/2019 09:38

Worst: France (on a school trip) - it's the dirtiest shithole I've ever come across.

Whole country... based on a shitty school trip when you were how old?

Whitney168 · 07/10/2019 09:42

Best: Roadtrips around California, the 'Deep South' and South Africa

Worst: Cuba (worst food poisoning ever, lasted about 9 days!) and Cancun

(Puerto Vallarta on Pacific coast of Mexico was fabulous though)

sandragreen · 07/10/2019 10:27

Best
UK - Brighton. Cool and Cosmopolitan with loads to do.
Europe - Rome. Been so many times and always find something else magnificent about it. Just love it.
Aso, Sicily.
Long Haul - Safari in Kenya. It was so beautiful I actually cried Blush

Worst
UK - Blackpool. Grim.
Europe - Brussels. Been loads of times for work and its grey and soulless
Long Haul - Another Japan Hater here. Full of creepy men who seemed to think a lone western woman must be some kind of prostitute. I couldn't wait to get home.

InOtterNews · 07/10/2019 10:33

Best: really too many, but Costa Rica, Thailand, and Vietnam are standouts. San Sebastian, Berlin for short trips

Worst: I can't think of really terrible places I've been, but Antigua. It fit the bill in terms of lying down and doing nothing and gorgeous beaches, but I'm just not cut out for All-Inclusive - felt too confined, plus the island is so small that I felt like I'd seen all it had to offer in a couple of days

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 07/10/2019 10:41

Best - Iceland, Maldives, and Cornwall
Worst - Tunisia
