It seems very out of character for Harry? Confused I wonder if he misinterpreted and thought she was asking about the lawsuit...

“Has Harry ever given a reason why he has never met Thomas Markle?”

Is there any particular reason why he should have given a reason?

HelloCheeky · 06/10/2019 08:24

Both Megan and Harry seek out publicity but then complain when they get it? They both know how the press works, they need to man up or lead a more private lifestyle.

I have seen comments like this before and I don't understand them AT ALL. Meghan and Harry are not complaining about publicity. When and where did they complain about publicity? Please share evidence of that.

They are not complaining about publicity. Clearly and obviously their role depends on publicity, and they go along with that. They dress up, they smile, they have endless photos taken. What they are complaining about is the press lying about them, publishing private correspondence edited to make them look bad and writing articles several times a week in which they are nasty and critical of their lives.

I am absolutely not a royalist but the royal family are real human beings just like you. Imagine if somebody was publically publishing lies and criticism about you hundreds of times a year. How would you feel? The press are behaving in an utterly indecent and uncivilised fashion and we should be ashamed that it happens in our country.

@BertrandRussell
Is your sole raison d’etre On Mumsnet to ask annoying questions ?

BertrandRussell · 06/10/2019 08:28

It’s a tough, dirty job but someone’s go to do it.

And while people continually refuse to answer them.......

cathyno5 · 06/10/2019 08:30

So many people on Mumsnet seem to have dysfunctional families, so it's entirely possible that Meghan is in the same situation. Just because she has parents and siblings it doesn't mean she has a happy family. There may be some very valid reasons why she has gone non contact with her father. Didn't Harry say something when they got engaged like ' this is the family she never had' (I may have imagined this!).

BertrandRussell · 06/10/2019 08:32

“I have seen comments like this before and I don't understand them AT ALL. Meghan and Harry are not complaining about publicity.“

Yes this puzzles me too. They asked for privacy for their child. Which any normal person would think perfectly reasonable.

Pitterpatterpettysteps · 06/10/2019 08:38

A cynic might wonder whether Bertrand was being paid per post by a PR company..

Octonaught · 06/10/2019 08:38

Yeah, I’ll bite.
No Harry doesn’t need to give an explanation why he hasn’t met his father in law. But in the absence of one, he just come across as rude.

And I know people will bleat out « oh Meghan has a dysfunctional family».
Well yes her half siblings, but prior to the wedding disaster, and ignoring and excluding her father, he hadn’t said anything negative about her. And to be fair, he has never criticised Meghan as an individual; he’s always said he loves her, and hope that he will see her one day. He is just upset that he has not been in contact with her.

It’s actually a very sad family situation, being played out in the global media. The Sussexes are now distrustful of anyone outside a very tight inner circle, and are trying hard to curate their image.

Some elements have worked. Piers Morgan has shut up. However, Harry’s sledgehammer to crack a nut approach has pissed off quite a lot of the media who were all set to write a positive summary of their very successful South Africa tour.

Octonaught · 06/10/2019 08:40

They asked for privacy for their child. Which any normal person would think perfectly reasonable.

And then parade him on Instagram, to a musical background, in the private setting of their 9 million followers.
🤦‍♀️

LaurieMarlow · 06/10/2019 08:42

And then parade him on Instagram, to a musical background, in the private setting of their 9 million followers.

So now you’re criticising them for giving you much exposure.

My head is honestly spinning.

Octonaught · 06/10/2019 08:53

Someone else said Archie should be kept private. Hence the quote

I’m just pointing out the irony.

BertrandRussell · 06/10/2019 09:00

Actually, I can’t remember what they said about privacy for the child.i was just thinking about the stuff around the birth.
As someone else said- when have they ever actually asked for privacy? No steps of the hospital pictures and the christening being private. What else?

BertrandRussell · 06/10/2019 09:02

And surely everyone should be allowed to control access to their child? Much of Mumsnet would be rendered obsolete if they aren’t....

LaurieMarlow · 06/10/2019 09:10

I’m just pointing out the irony.

The point they were making was that archie, as a private citizen (unlike themselves and all the Cambridge’s) would have some aspects of his life kept private.

But that we’d never see any photos of him.

So not irony, no. Just deliberate misconstruction of their meaning, which appears to be all too common with them.

LaurieMarlow · 06/10/2019 09:11

Sorry, NOT that’s we’d never see photos.

GunpowderGelatine · 06/10/2019 09:15

I've always been a supporter of the Royals (quote the thing to admit on MN) but Harry is acting like an A-List celebrity since he got married, it a member of the Royal family, and I once thought he seemed like a lovely chap now comes across as a massive twat

BertrandRussell · 06/10/2019 09:16

“Harry is acting like an A-List celebrity since he got married,”

In what way?

EntropyRising · 06/10/2019 09:18

So the DM's defence will presumably argue that the substantive content of the letter was already in the public domain, due to the leaking of details by Meghan's "friend" to People magazine.

Jeez. I'm really not big fans of these two but I can't help myself from feeling bad for them at the can of worms they just opened.

I think we can now know that there's not a deep thinker between them, because anyone could have seen this coming.

justasking111 · 06/10/2019 09:20

Kate takes pictures of her children which controls the press on birthdays. The sheer number of press on these occasions is terrifying. I happened to have sky news on they were live at Kensington palace Diana's floral offerings. The young princes appeared to thank people. It was pandemonium with reporters shouting at the princes for comments, pushing and shoving
I was appalled. We normally only see the carefully edited results. So let them control what their children are exposed to

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/10/2019 09:26

Archie isn't a private citizen. He's seventh in line to the throne.

Idontwanttotalk · 06/10/2019 09:28

@Cohle

"When was the last time you saw anything negative about Kate in the press?"

"Severe morning sickness in pregnancy battled by Kate Middleton may raise a child's risk of autism by 53% 'because nutritional deficiencies brought on by vomiting affect brain development'"

"That was a Daily Mail headline two days ago. Charming."
This is in no way anything negative about Kate. It is just an article about severe morning sickness and mentions that Kate Middleton suffered with it. It isn't a slur on Kate.

Still, any chance to knock the DM eh? Grin

TartanTexan · 06/10/2019 09:30

Is Piers Morgan possibly behind or involved with the earlier hacking of Harry’s phone? If this can be proved there would be serious consequences for Piers.

LaurieMarlow · 06/10/2019 09:31

Archie isn't a private citizen. He's seventh in line to the throne.

He is.

He has no title and isn’t a working royal.

Same status as Peter Philips for example.

Someone upthread said that an edited video of “Archie meets Arch(bishop Tutu)” with a soundtrack of “Happy a day” has been uploaded to the Sussex Instagram account.

I have no idea if that’s accurate, but if it is, then that’s the other end of the scale and deserving of its own criticism.

TottieandMarchpane · 06/10/2019 09:34

“Oh happy day”, that should read.
