It seems very out of character for Harry? Confused I wonder if he misinterpreted and thought she was asking about the lawsuit...

The Cambridge brand and message is spot on. Family, duty.

Only because the press is on-side.

It could easily be spun a different way.

Cohle · 05/10/2019 20:41

Surely that's exactly why Harry's current antagonism towards the press is ill judged? No one's going to run charming puff pieces about how adorable his family are now.

Octonaught · 05/10/2019 20:43

The press have always had the good / bad narrative.
Diana / Fergie
Diana / Camilla
For a time it was workshy William on a ski holiday / vs dutiful Harry at a Commonwealth service.
Depends who is flavour of the month and which story will sell more papers, or more relevant, get more clicks and comments, therefore advertising. At the end, you just need to follow the money.

The press had their knives out. They were never going to publish the charming puff pieces. They were too busy bitching about Meghan touching her bump.

I’m not sure whether Harry’s actions have been wise exactly, but I’m not sure how else they could have gotten Morgan off their case.

stairway · 05/10/2019 20:47

I do wonder if all this attention on Harry is a deliberate distraction from Prince Andrew. The timing is very suspicious.

Octonaught · 05/10/2019 20:50

I doubt very much if Harry would “take one for the team” on Andrew’s behalf.

I disagree. Just as the press antagonism towards Kate has mellowed over time, the coverage Harry and Meghan were receiving on their S. Africa tour was much improved - even Harry commented on it.

LaurieMarlow · 05/10/2019 20:55

Clearly the legal case was instigated before that.

Would it have improved? Impossible to say. I wasnt acceptable though.

Cohle · 05/10/2019 21:16

Of course the lawyers will have been working on the case behind the scenes for some time but the final decision to file wasn't taken until Tuesday.

justasking111 · 05/10/2019 21:51

I would be raging as Meghan re her family stuff, when his family stuff may well be much worse. Coming from two dysfunctional families it is good that you can hold each other up sometimes.

StartupRepair · 05/10/2019 21:54

Wasn't it at the queen's coronation that the press saw Margaret taking fluff off Peter Townsend's jacket and realised they were in a relationship?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/10/2019 22:46

Dunno, Startup, but your post promoted me to google the YouTube video of the coronation. It’s hilarious. I’ve seen clips before on the news before, but by god, it’s outdated stuff and nonsense. Really, the monarchy should have died out with debs’ balls....

TottieandMarchpane · 05/10/2019 23:54

Those bastards at the DM don`t give up do they

Even a stopped clock has a point once in a while Grin

Tom Markle DID show the media the letter in response to MM’s friends (clearly under her instructions) talking misleadingly about its contents to the US media, as far as I can make out.

Obviously the Mail was still on dodgy ground printing it. It’s not surprising they’re drawing attention to the -manipulative- train of events, though.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 06/10/2019 00:09

So if the article is to be believed, the DM didn't have the whole letter so can't be accused of editing it to misrepresent the truth. Meanwhile, another of Meghan's friends is talking to the media, with - as far as we can tell - no apparent consequences. What a mess.

PortiaCastis · 06/10/2019 00:12

Lot of crystal balls on here

QualCheckBot · 06/10/2019 00:21

So the DM's defence will presumably argue that the substantive content of the letter was already in the public domain, due to the leaking of details by Meghan's "friend" to People magazine.

TottieandMarchpane · 06/10/2019 00:26

You don’t need a crystal ball to remember what’s already been dragged into the public domain piece by gritty piece @PortiaCastis

I must admit to rubbernecking a bit. I’m hoping all this madness hastens a republic TBH.

TottieandMarchpane · 06/10/2019 00:28

They must have said a hell of a lot then?

Does MM realise that it’s obvious that she sanctions this, I wonder?

Rachelle11 · 06/10/2019 01:33

I don't see how what Thomas Markle did was wrong given her friends brought it up to the media first? They made it sound like he rejected the olive branch. I don't think Thomas, Harry, Meghan, or her friends come off well in this.

Effiedg · 06/10/2019 04:18

Who the hell rejects their entire family?

Cantrememberpassword · 06/10/2019 04:22

Both Megan and Harry seek out publicity but then complain when they get it? They both know how the press works, they need to man up or lead a more private lifestyle.

Gingerkittykat · 06/10/2019 04:49

Who the hell rejects their entire family?

If your entire family was Thomas Markle and the horror show that is her sister then I'm sure you would disown them too.

BertrandRussell · 06/10/2019 08:05

“Who the hell rejects their entire family?”

Well- plenty of mumsnetters for a start....

Octonaught · 06/10/2019 08:09

Has Harry ever given a reason why he has never met Thomas Markle?
A lot of this nonsense started not long before the wedding.
Surely you’d want to meet the father of your future wife?
I don’t blame Thomas Markle for wanting to defend himself. He didn’t do it in a very sophisticated way, but he has been treated appalling by Harry and Meghan.
